As long as we're re-examining the 1960s, looking for signs of character, trying to decide if a man who volunteered for combat and was decorated five times was more or less courageous than a guy who didn't even show up for his own medical exam... here's George W. The guy didn't actually have the ball, but reports suggest that he MIGHT have had the ball.
Could Bush be expected to sit and wait for him to get the ball , to just sit back and then later in the game have the opposition hooker go over for a try? I don't think so.

Although we found out later that it's true that he didn't have the ball, he had plans to later aquire and use the ball against Yale. So the punch in the face was more than justified.

PS. who taught bush how to tackle?!?!?
