The mayor of Sparta, the ancient Greek city in the Peloponnese, announced on Wednesday that Gerard Butler, who played King Leonidas in the Hollywood blockbuster "300" will visit the town in March.

Petros Doukas said that Butler will be a guest of honor in the festivities marking 2,500 years since the Battle of Thermopylae. But not only that — on March 14, Butler will run in Sparta as a torchbearer for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Hollywood star will forever be associated with the battle cry "This is Sparta!" which has become one of the more iconic lines in film history.

Speaking to Greek Reporter recently, Butler described "300" as the "most intense and enjoyable movie he ever made."

"It made me feel Greek!", he said.

In related news a new euro coin will be issued.

Hope I get one.

Huh, cool money. Is that a legit currency or more of a commemorative thing like those "US Mint" silver dollar things?

I think the 2 euro coin in OP post is legal tender but not the commemorative coin below that.
Cool. While it is really culturally meaningless given the timeframes involved, it would still be amusing to see a greek guy go to a Persian restaurant and pay with those coins :p

300 is one of the most ridiculous movies I've seen. No surprise, since it's based on Frank Miller's graphic novel. Not denying it's fun, but anyone expecting historical accuracy should look elsewhere.

Good for Butler to get invited to such a historic event. Though this news is sure to piss off some people. I don't what Iranians in general feel about the movie, but my dad's friend is one. He owns a Persian restaurant we used to frequent and he made no qualms of stating his utmost hatred for that 'bullshit' movie. He thought it pissed on his culture's history.
