This will mark the first time I've ever had an up-to-date machine, more or less (a 2.6 ghz or whatever Pentium 4), and because I've never had a new computer before, I've resisted buying PC games because I knew they would chug. So what types of titles should I get, or should I stick to stuff like Mame?

Alas, that applies to all PC gamers. It's quite sad to see the dwindling server lists and lack of players in what is possibly the greatest multiplayer experience of our time.

If only people were as rabid about UT2K4 as they are about Counter-strike.
