Getting VOIP in your entire home with little work

All I had to do was unplug my POTS service out in my junction box (it had a regular RJ-11 plug) and then plug my PAP2 into a phone jack. Voila... all my phones work just like they did with POTS. Also, make sure to label your junction box so nobody accidentally reconnects it and toasts your phones and VoIP device.

One thing I did get out of the article that I hadn't done... protect your VoIP device from lightning. I have a spot on my surge supressor for phone connection, but I never used it. Seems like a safe easy thing to do.

All of that is great so long as you're dumping your phone company altogether. If you're keeping a basic $12/month line for some other reason, you'll have to get your hands dirty and move the telco's line to a different pair so that you can have both the telco AND your VOIP line in the house. For those with alarm systems and the like, this is really your only option.
