Wow, they've decided to make a sequel. I guess that Stand Alone Complex has been pretty successful to warrant this:

I own the first on VHS and it's...okay. The world it takes place in, the animation, and the whole style of the movie is fantastic, but I still found it to be a little on the boring side. I've watched a couple of episodes of Stand Alone Complex and have been REALLY impressed with those. Here is hoping that the sequel will up the action from the first movie a little.

I've never liked the first one but I LOVE the TV series-- it's on my all time top 10 list of anime. I do hope the movie is more like the TV series.

I watched it, seems decent (was in japanese with no subs). The animation is great and it has some kickass action scene's.... Also it seems to have an ending unlike the previous movie.

I would actually go so far as to say that about 60% of anime is crap. But the stuff that's good is usually REALLY good.

Innocence takes place after Ghost 1. Makoto (the heroine from the first) is pretty much gone, having foresaken her humanity and merging with the Puppet Master. The movie revolved around Batou and his partner, still with Section 6. Batou is the central character in the film, facing much of the same thing as Makoto faced in the previous film.

Can't wait to see it. Ghost1 was awesome, and Ghost 2 should follow suit.

I assume the lasts of the anime you've seen are from 1998 which I think are Bebop, Outlaw Star, and Trigun? I'm not so sure when they were released but those animes were released in around 1 year and I THINK it's 1998.

Yes, it's true most animes are preety crap but there are still good ones. This season of anime is one of the best IMO. Have you seen Monster? Samurai Champloo? There are still great animes out there... just have to weed out the greats ones from the average/shit ones.

hmm, well i dont really like most anime either, there are definitely a few series that are really good, but the rest is pretty much crap imo. then again, its not like hollywood is any different.

I remember when Sci-Fi used to play anime Saturday mornings. I always thought it was strange that every singe one was about war and pretty sub-standard. I rarely like Anime but some of it seem really fun, like it would be perfect for Americans if is was just dumbed down and edited of boobies.

Yeah, as much as I like anime, it's hard to deny that 95% of it is crap. As for Ghost in the Shell, I thought the movie was totally overrated, but I hear good things about the show, so I might scope that out.

That's how I look at it too...well, okay, it's more like:
TV Series: Amazing
Movies: meh

Remembering back to when I was in trade school and we had GITS playing, I always seemed so surprised when the movie ended. It felt like it went to a commercial break and just never came back.

GITS as a whole is quite overrated, and I blame the original movie for that. The series itself has never appealed to me as much as Shirow's other works have, but at the least the anime TV series is easier to follow than Shirow's manga, where you don't know what the hell is going on and the guy is constantly making stuff up.

I'd like to see more Dominion Tank Police myself.
