Ghostbusters: Afterlife first photos

Afterlife was the rumored title for some time. Filming has already wrapped, mostly in Oklahoma.

Looks like good casting. Both kids look like little Spenglers.

But these kids probably don’t know what proton packs are, because they’re unfamiliar with the Ghostbusters entirely. In fact, the event referred to as the “Manhattan Crossrip,” where the Ghostbusters took on the Sumerian God known as Gozer the Gozerian and its destructive traveler manifested as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, seems to be largely regarded as a myth or a hoax, and Phoebe and Trevor have never really heard about it before.

This bothers me. How could somethig as public as a giant marshmallow man tearing up Manhattan, along with the explosions and chaos - all covered by world media - collectively pass into near-myth in thirty-odd years?

I would love it to be good.

The last one was a mess, and not because of the female actors.

There was a fundamental misunderstanding of what a Ghostbusters film is, or what made it succesful.

It was as scary and mysterious as it was funny. It was not a two hour SNL script with the actors riffing off of each other.

I think the people working on the new film may get that. It is horrifying things happening, with a collection of characters handiling the situation in various ways. Not just four random actors riffing.

Ray was totally deep into paranormal shit, and it worked because the actual actor and one of the writers was into that.

Ray

Igon was the more technical scientist, but also had a knowledge of crazy mystic history.

Vankman was a fraud, but convinced the group that he was sincere, and that they could make money off of the idea of capturing ghosts.

Hudson, as he stated, if there is a steady paycheck involved, he will believe anything.

Great movie. Not to even go into the monster in the fridge, Moranis, Weever, Potts, or the Marshmellow Man.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I wonder if the Ghostbusters: The Video Game will be referenced? That was such a good game and it recently got remastered and Aykroyd was involved so I hope they would include that as canon.

My synopsis guess:

The girl gets bullied for being a science geek, but then proves everyone wrong, then everyone jumps into the air and yells "Girls in STEM! Yeah!".

I like Paul Rudd. I like that Paul Rudd is in this. I just hope Bill Murray doesn’t phone-in his role or acts like he doesn’t really want to be there -if Bill’s in all-in, I think this will turn out to be a solid movie.

i don't like the kids

what was great about ghost busters was it was grown men taking existing wacky things semi-seriously

there is a strong stranger things quality about these kids and it brings feelings of doubt

otherwise, only time will tell how this goes

Adding kids usually ruins it for me. Telegraphs that they will pull punches. Ironically I felt this way when I was kid also.

Blues Brothers sequel is a good example of what I mean.

Screw it, Here's my prediction that nobody asked for. lol

Ghostbusters had a experiment that went wrong and pulled Winston, Ray and Peter into some sort of differant dimension, maybe the ghost world like in the game or like the old "Ghostbusters go to hell" script dimension.

Egon was the one who stayed behind to operate the machine and thus didn't get stuck with them. He closes up shop since he can't run the place on his own, moves somewhere remote and out of the way so he can continue his attempt at saving the guys through experiments an making a machine, but ultimately fails an is killed by the baddie of the film, who ever that maybe. His grandkids find the machine He made an spend the film trying to work out what it is an how it works and what really happend to Egon etc etc you know how it goes from there.

The main thing I don't like about this is that it would basically rule all the guys out till the end where they can pop up an save the day. That's just what I've brainfarted.....huh, just dawned on me that a machine that turns ghosts in to humans, or in this case brings Ray, Winston and Peter back from the ghostworld, is like in Casper Which Ray has a cameo in, go figure....wait did I just basically reuse Caspers dads backstory? I need a drink.

Just because it has kids doesn't mean it can't be semi serious. Look at IT Chapter 1.

Ghostbusters 2016 had all adult casts but they all acted like Saturday morning cartoons.

That looks... good? Cautiously optimistic for this.

Stranger Things i thought has already reached a Ghostbusters or Goonies-level style of horror fantasy, so I am glad they are kind of going that way. personally i don't have strong hopes or anything but will see this for sure. me and my brothers used to play Ghostbusters as kids, our parents made us fake proton packs before they had them in the stores, the whole thing. so i've been into it for a long time.

long enough to feel embarrassed when Ray and Winston were forced into dancing at birthday parties in Ghostbusters 2. seeing that in the theater on release, hoo boy, that was an experience. when the kids started yelling "He-Man!" it was all too meta, and i felt that cringe, back when i was 8 years old. don't get me wrong, GB2 ruled, Es Vigo!!! and I loooooved the Rick Moranis onscreen Super Mario Bros. reference (it was a BIG deal back then to even hear the name of a video game in a movie) but you couldn't deny things were off & that the series has kinda been coasting ever since that golden first entry.

that said, 2016: Answer The Ballz had absolutely zero heart to it, ffs they even kill off an OG buster by accident. they have hinted at a more emotional and sincerely storyline rather than the cackling nihilist jackals of the last picture, so this will likely be a much needed salve to the damage that piece of trash did to the fanbase.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I'm optimistic just because the director.
But the complete lack of the Ghostbusters being anywhere is dragging my optimism down.
I want a real Ghostbusters, not Egons grandkids running around with abandoned equipment and guest appearances by the original team.
I'm up for Paul Rudd joining the team thou

I can't even get excited for this. Ghostbusters is pretty much done for me. The first movie and the real Ghostbusters cartoon is all I really wanted and it's like a snapshot in time for me.

The sequel wasn't very good, the reboot was a turd, the video games aren't very good. Ghostbusters is just done. I'll watch it eventually at home or something.

Why does it have to be grandchildren? Why does it have to be children at all? What’s kinda annoying me is we’re under the assumption this is Egon’s family, right? Egon had no family in Ghostbusters 2, and that was 30 years ago. Did he have a family like immediately have a wife and get her pregnant after GB2, and did their daughter just immediately get knocked up after high school? I’m not saying these things aren’t possible, but it’s also just too narrow of a window for me, especially for a character not in an established relationship last time we saw him. Especially if ghostbusters the video game is canon.

Also, why does the Ecto 1 still look like that? I always thought that the Ecto-1A was just the original Ecto 1, just tuned up and repainted. I dunno, I'm not really optimistic I guess, because I'm just feeling beaten over the head with these bad reboots, or sequels to classics from my childhood, and it's just gotten to the point where I don't care anymore.

It's been speculated that Janine is the grandma of the kids. Which does kinda make sense because she flirted with Egon a lot. Plus Annie Potts is in the movie.

Which is kinda even more annoying, since any hint at a relationship between those two was only in the first Ghostbusters, but that ship had sailed by the time GB2 had come along, and she had moved on to Louis.

Eh, it's not that big of a deal to me. I'm hyped as hell for the trailer. I'm okay with the characters being grandkids.

What gets me excited about the film is it looks like they're taking the science stuff seriously.

It makes sense that the equipment would be stashed away, hidden out in the middle of nowhere in a post 9/11 world since the proton packs are unlicensed nuclear accelerators. :p

I have seriously never seen any of this directors films except for Juno. Guess I'll need to check out his work.

Ok... that looks intriguing. It's at least taking the supernatural elements a bit more seriously and there's an air of mystery regarding what happened to Egon and the rest of the gang. My only complaints is that it's going for more of a Stranger Things and Goonies feel rather than Ghostbusters and not much comedy to be seen.

But it looks way better than the shitty 2016 reboot. So that's a plus I guess? Wonder what James Rolfe will think of this?

Even the title is trying to tell you that the franchise you knew is dead. This is the afterlife of the dead thing we like. I'm not even saying that's a bad thing. It's just a clever title since it could just be an innocuous nod to the fact that ghosts are dead, but clearly that's not it.

Does anyone else think we'll probably get another Goatbuters trailer on Sunday during the Superbowl? That and Eternals most likely.

yeah no after watching the above television commercial behind the scenes, i am firmly off this new ghostbusters

i already dislike the movie as ghostbusters movie AND as a movie on it's own and it hasn't even come out

without these 4 and the whole cast and crew that came with them, SORRY, there is no more ghostbusters

ghostbusters by definition is the chemistry that happens between these characters portrayed by the original actors

what a feat of comedy genius

no vulgarity, no shock factor, no screaming, no forced awkwardness, makes todays comedy look like steaming dog shit

they're just shooting a commercial without ANY comical cues and it's STILL hilarious 🤣

the closest thing to a modern day ghostbusters is tropic thunder

Iam the opposite.

The Afterlife Trailer was really good and already better than the whole movie with the women. Iam sure Afterlife will be a bit slow to build up the new characters but i hope its successful to make a way for Afterlife 2. Its has already a good talented cast.

The thirst is real.... especially for it being a real successor to Ghostbusters 2.

On top of it... we have Ivan Reitman as Producer (who did Ghostbusters 1 and 2) and his son Jason Reitman being the Regisseur

Jeah it has more modern technology and better cameras than the old movies from 20 years ago. ;)
That's not the problem.

We dont need another copy of Ghostbusters 1 (the women failed horrible with it).
But a Stranger Things copy with the Ghostbuster name tacked on we even need less, mate...

You could always debate if late sequels make any sense (so far, only Cobra Kai succeeded with this, imo).
It's almost impossible to get it right.

You are comparing a

"Mystery-Science Fiction TV Show" with two "Science Fiction Fantasy Comedy" movies. If we look at the Sci-Fiction aspect... everything will be Stranger Things then.

Its a cheap argument. There more people involved that have nothing to do with Stranger Things at all.

Iam sure there will be at least two more kids or one more adult joining the main cast besides Paul Rudd.

We know almost nothing about the movie and people already saying "Its Stranger Things with Ghosts" now.... no its not. The kids are not only known for Stranger Things (its just their most famous Netflix show now)

Stranger Things is a couple of children and some mystery horror thing in a rural setting.
GB:Afterlife seems to be a couple of children and some mystery horror thing in a rural setting.

If you don't see the semblance, I cannot help you.

I see what he’s going for. GB2016 was a straight ripoff of the first movie. It sucked because it was not funny but also it had no ideas. This is why it was so desperate with mugging and shit, it was desperate to be loved, and that just comes across as pathetic.

At least Stranger Things GB is an idea. Say what you will about overhype but they managed to pull off 80s horror fantasy very well. There is confidence in the Afterlife trailer. Maybe fake but maybe they know what they are doing this time.

og gang is impossible to get back together, Bill Murray made sure that ship sailed. but I think it’s possible to make a decent movie with the property after all it’s been done before

Why do they keep remaking classics and just gender swapping the roles? Can't we just enjoy Ghostbusters (2016), why do we need some gender swapped half assed sequel/reboot- the four main actresses in the original Ghostbusters better at least show up as outrageous ad-libbed cameos.

This isn't a remake. It's Ghostbusters 3. Set in the same universe, just in present day. All of the surviving cast (except Rick Moranis) are in this one. It's about Egon's grandkids.
