Which Xbox and Summer Game Fest games grabbed the most headlines?

Fancensus offers an analysis into the most covered games in the 24-hour periods that followed by Geoff Keighley's and Microsoft's annual showcases

But how did the games do with press? Which ones were making headlines and stealing the spotlight following the two shows?

Rather than just considering quantity of articles, Fancensus’ Flare Score also considers numerous other metrics including reach of approximately 3,000 featured websites, the split between headlining articles and those that merely mention the title, and presence of articles on a website's front page. Essentially, it gives an overall performance that focuses on quality and not just quantity awarding a score out of 100.

When examining the 24-hour window following each of the two respective shows, it's clear that Xbox Games Showcase had the bigger impact with press; the top five scoring titles all featured in this show, with a further three more featuring in the top ten.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 saw with the biggest success, scoring not only the highest Flare Score overall but doing so by a huge margin, likely a result of it having its own showing following the Xbox Games Showcase.

Gears was basically simple fan service. Not surprised at all that it got such high coverage despite possibly being furthest out. Gears gameplay in horror setting sounds awesome. Huge opportunity there.

Glad to see Lego Horizon at number 6. Can't wait to play it with the kiddo.

Publishers have got to be wondering if it's worth paying Summer Game Fest to put a YouTube trailer on their show.

"Now, would you like to pay and extra $500k to have your game in a premium slot?"

"Premium slot?"

"Yes, you can be first game shown for an extra fee, or save a little money and go after Geoff does a Door dash advert."

"Hmm."

So based on the criteria in the article, they just made up arbitrary numbers based on a few things they didn't provide any real data on that they called "Flare score". Also it's admittedly by them partially constructed by article titles/mentions, so if a bunch of articles were written that "Dragon Age SUCKS", they still get a high score here.

Seems ripe for misunderstandings, or be gamed/manipulated/paid for. Even still, I doubt with actual data that the games would change all that much and this isn't really worth much outside of a quick glance to see what's being talked about. Probably could have gotten similar info from looking at Twitter trending.

Happy to see Avowed so high up, looking forward to it.

Methodology is a bit flawed since some games have been shown several times and this only measures the 24 hours after, so it makes Wilds appear lower than it is.

I mean, most of headlines about DA Veilguard had people openly shitting at the trailer they shown so not sure if it's something to be proud of lol
