Patrick's change of tone is weird. I wonder if CBS finally realised they are paying him a full wage to write news stories hours/days later then everyone else and record 2 videos a week.

Imagine his meeting with the Bobs.

"What would you say you do here?"

"I am good about checking sources! I'm a source checker! Want to see my Never Jump To Conclusions Mat? There are different conclusions that you shouldn't jump to if you want to be a journalist."

Can't remember where I read it but didn't Patrick say he was going to be trying out some new things this week in regards to news? Maybe that's what you guys are picking up on. Either way he's probably looking for feedback from folks.

We have Adam Boyes debating with scoops on the term "Console" Exclusivity.

Matt Kessler is scared of Bananas and Dave picking on him.

Dan made a new friend in Doritos.

#TeamDan

Also what idiot listens to the bombcast!?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind it if they would stop doing these news posts everyday. It really doesn't add anything to the site for me. I am interested what in they think about gaming news, but with the morning show and the Bombcast they have enough avenues to get their opinions across. I don't really need it in writing, also.

That would also free up Alex to do more stuff with Vinny and Patrick to do more videos, longer articles and interviews. For example, I really liked the interview that Patrick did with the creative director of Wolfenstein.

Yeah, he said so on Twitter.

Chat is up for the live QL of Divinity. Get ready for a lot of BRAD IS BRAD AT GAMES LOL!! comments in the chat!

News of my unemployment has been greatly exaggerated. I do work with N'Gai Croal (and George Jones and Robert Coffey from CGW, amongst others.)

I am, however, still old.

Divinity seems like a really daunting game to quick look. There's so much to it and you can go long stretches with exploring a city and talking to people and little to no action.

Be prepared for a three hour QL of them wandering around in Cyseal with a handful of failed battles against higher-level Undead.

I am prepared for this.

Chat will be their delayed guide to the game.

It is a marketing term designed to mislead casuals. People in the know learn to read "console exclusive" as a timed deal - or they would have just said "exclusive" - but the general public will just hear "exclusive" and make their and assumptions. It is the video game equivalent of "low fat/fat free" on a lot of food products. Factually accurate but designed to mislead.

Yeah, it's a weird term that's really starting to show its age. I imagine it's of some significance at the beginning of a console cycle, but with the industry changing so much, as well as the definition of 'console' to the audience at large, it's becoming irrelevant. We have PC's becoming so accessible and 'consolified' (could get even bigger if the Steam OS/box makes an impact) and mobile/tablets doing serious damage. For a game like Grim Fandango, its most popular 'console' may end up being mobile (we all know the port's coming).

I would like to see MS/Sony say fuck it and just slap "Not on Playstation"/"Not on Xbox" instead. More mainstream journalists (not Gamasutra insider-y sites) should do more to spotlight marketing fluff to consumers.

For once, one of your Patrick posts is realistically worrying.

Quick fridge update. The magnets have arrived. The wrapping paper should appear later today. The fridge is on its way, coming either Friday or Monday. There's been a little miscommunication with the dog shelter donation, but that's all sorted out, and that gift pack will be mailed out either today or tomorrow. There's nearly $70 left to cover shipping so with a little luck this insane thing should arrive in time for the UPF after next.

What metacritic rating do you think the game you're currently consulting on will receive?

I think the most exciting Patrick related news this week is that he twitter-invited Brain Altano onto Bombing the AM. My Giant Bomb/Comedy Button crossover dreams are coming true!

Edit: oh jesus fuck

Fucking Ian in chat badmouthing Divinity, complaining about things that were obvious to me.

Also Brad continually saying how hard & obtuse the game is.

I can't decide if this has ruined my day, week or entire life.
All of the above.
Edit: @Jabee Without going into too much detail I actually agree with Patrick's general stance in regards to the XBone dev unit story. However the Grim Fandango one I felt was reaching. It is less of an issue in my mind because the terminology being used was accurate.

His first article implores news writers to wait for the prepared company line from Phil Spencer before writing a news story about Microsoft. It's almost as if Patrick is saying to wait for an official press release before reporting on anything.

His next story was about the deceptiveness of the phrase "console exclusive" framed around Grim Fandango being announced for PC, Mac, Linux even when it was clear in the presentation that it would be on PC. It may have been confusing if you never watched a press conference from one of the big three before. Not only that, but the head of Double Fine was imploring people during the press conference that it would be coming to PC as well.

Things are getting weird.
