Giant Bomb Quick Look; Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric

"They are people who like Sonic Adventure 2. We don't talk about them anymore."

Shots fired.

Just finished watching this and dear lord, this game looks so boring.

Bounce pad!

I do really enjoy the character designs though, both the main four and the NPCs.

It must suck to be a Sonic fan.

1) nobody likes them
2) they like a thing that fuuuuuuucken suuuuuucks

Many good posters here are Sonic fans and would be the first to decry this game.

I actually enjoy Knuckles banter but I would not say that being "big dumb muscle but actually the most self aware character because the others are idiots" required a lot of effort with the writting quality of this game.

"A old civilization that called themselves The Ancients"

Is shame because some people have said that the show is decent.

Watched it earlier. It's everything I hoped it would be.

For some god awful reason, this game is entertaining to watch.

It blows my mind that half this quick look was the same grey foggy side-scrolling area with the same bloody elevators the whole time.

What the fuck were the devs thinking.

"It doesn't read as Knuckles was buffing up or anything. It reads like he got exposed to radiation and something horrible happened."

Yeah, this is one of the all time great QLs.

Also: "this wall was not built well. This game was not built well".

Dear lord that framerate!! It's no wonder why every CE game announced for Wii U up to this point has become vaporware.

If this game were on PS3/360/PS4/XB1 it would still likely run like shit due to how much of a technical mess the game is. Heck even if it used an engine we've seen multiple times on Wii U it'd be a mess.

I think the thing that stands out to me most is how none of the characters will SHUT THE FUCK UP

the game is basically reading you a FAQ as you play

the worst part is they'll always remind you to push a damn glowing green button but when you get to the wide open hubs where you do need a bit of direction they never mention what the objective is supposed to be.

"You know normally I'm fine with changing a name to match what it is in Japan but Dr. Robotnik is such a good na-WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE FRAME RATE IN THIS MOTHER FUCKING VIDEO GAME?"

the Sonic games they like still fucking suck.

unless they stopped liking Sonic games in like 1994

Never knew that nostalgia goggles caused Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors to disappear from existence.

Good to know.

At least we got these two games before we ended up with this annoying crap again. Whoever thought all that talking was good should be fired.

I never got around to Colors, but Generations is fucking garbage.

You're welcome.

I haven't played Generations, but if Generations is garbage, then what are Sonic 2006 and Sonic Boom? Being totally sincere here; garbage seems like the lowest something can go.

for some reason this game is growing on me, I don't really see a reason to hate it

I am not buying it but just saying it looks like a children's game made for 6 year olds
if you look at it like that I have no issues

Eh, watching that, the game looks like fun. Great, no, but it looks okay, and I like platformers. Sonic games don't always have to be moving at super high speeds, the original game wasn't like that and it was pretty great. Sure, Sonic Boom is clearly nowhere near that level, no 3d Sonic games have been, but based on that video, I honestly think I'd probably kind of like Sonic Boom... I like 3d platformers with worlds to explore, and this game has that, unlike a lot of Sonic games. As for the 2d platforming, it looks quite simple, but hopefully it gets harder farther in. NOt too bad, overall, the framerate excepted... but I'm not someone who minds mediocre framerates, as long as they stay in the double digits.

Oh, and Sonic Adventure 2 is good, one of the best 3d Sonic games for sure. My other favorite 3d Sonic games are Sonic Adventure and Sonic and the Secret Rings (yes, I really like that one! Bad camera, good game.).

I don't feel a need for levels of granularity when it comes to bad games. Once a certain level of bad is reached, I'm not going to continue playing it, so what difference does it make how bad a game is?

There are exactly two kinds of bad games:

1) Bad games that are worth playing because they're charming or entertaining for a non-game reason, such as Ace Attorney, Deadly Premonition or The Walking Dead.

2) Bad games that lack the above charm and aren't worth playing for any reason.

Sonic Generations is in group #2.

I enjoy how the characters namecheck needing to stop Lyric before they get the info dump telling them that evil serpent dude is named Lyric.

There's something about this that makes me want it... I can look past the fact that it's a crap 'Sonic game'. If you look at it as something that isn't a sonic game then I can see it being somewhat enjoyable. Maybe it's just that I miss playing this kind of game. I'm not sure :/ But don't get me wrong the performance issues still bother me.
