Giantbomb's Endurance Run: The Third: Chrono Trigger

Interesting that Ryan said in this ER mean they will play ERs until they no longer wanna play it anymore. Guess they had to add that condition for Ryan to do a new one? ;)

I think he said that because it was the idea when Jeff and Vinny started the Persona 4 one. I doubt they end up quitting this endurance run.

I don't hate Patrick, but I'm not a huge fan of him either. And maybe there's just some overexposure of Ryan lately but he seems to be grating me a little. The first episode was entertaining enough, though.

They pretty much said the same thing when beginning the Persona 4 E4 too.

edit : can't wait till Ryan starts getting busted for all the small shit in the opening fair. Decent opening I guess but the fact that i've played this game a million times unlike both P4 and Deadly Premonition kind of takes away from the excitement for me.

ah ok, i never watched the P4 ER simply because i haven't played it yet.

Why does everyone pronounce Chrono "Crow-No"? That surely isn't correct?

Oops I'm dumb. I never noticed how Krono is different than Krano. I can see why Crono the character name is pronounced Krono, but I don't know why the title is. One of those weird things. I prefer saying it the "wrong" way though.

I never thought of pronouncing it as in "chronological" either, that being said the way they pronounced Magus annoyed me (he's a mage, should be mage-us).

iirc, his name was supposed to be Chrono but the limited character limit made them change it to Crono in the localization.

"No! Wait until the race is over, then talk to the guy, then you can bet on the race."
"Ok, you're on the world map. NOW you can save!"

It's so frustrating they can't hear you saying these kinds of things.

Yup. This is an endurance run.

By the way, I personally love the name Ryan used for Crono.

Is CT the type of SNES JRPG where you can get stuck due to the combat? I crapped out of a few of the older ones because the bosses just got ridiculous and I wasn't going to grind my way out of the hole.
I can't see them doing it, the backlash they would get would be unstoppable.

We talkin bout Davis. Not Jeff or Vinny. Talkin bout Ryan Davis.

So the endurance run is already finished right? It sounds like they started this a while ago since I remember the kirby cakes from another video a ways back.

I guess that's why Vinny had to pass on it. Look at all the live stuff and content they've done since then.

EDIT: Patrick mentioning Halloween is also a dead giveaway I guess.

Not really, Chrono Trigger was pretty easy on the main plotline. Combat never got tough at all, IMO.

I think so. When they were about to go into the carnival of horrors, Patrick said something like, "Well, it is almost Halloween."

I can not think of a single good SNES RPG which is like this.

(And then there's 7th Saga, which grinding too much can screw you over)

FFIV can get tough at points IIRC, especially considering there are dangerous points of no return (I.E. Giant of Babel)

Will they strictly follow their naming scheme and name Robo Bobo?

Or will they be unable to resist the incredible temptation that is Brobo?

The suspense is killing me.

What's with all the Patrick hate btw? He may not be the funniest guy out there, but he certainly doesn't deserve the crap some people are giving him.

I don't hate him either, I like that he usually knows what he is talking about especially when Jeff and Ryan are being dicks about something that they haven't heard the full story of, just think people don't like all his talking which to be fair he really does all the time. Also anyone replacing Vinny in a endurance run is obviously going to get hate. :p

I have now decided than anyone but the main four guys will get hate for some part of the GB fanbase. It is like Yoko intruding on The Beatles

STFU people, I like Klepek.

Watch the Layton QL with him and Vinny and you'll become a fan soon enough!

How often do these usually come out? Never followed an Endurance Run before (and not sure I'll stick with this one seeing how neither Dave nor Brad are involved).

They come out every weekday with the occasional break or missed day.

I gave it a go, but for the third time they've picked a game I find ridiculously boring. Two JRPGs and just a really shit game. :(

I like the concept of the ER, but I'm not sure they'll ever pick the right game for me. A Vinny/Dave ER would almost certainly be fucking gold, though.

Oh well, I wasn't expecting to like this so no disappointment.

I can handle a game like DP if it's a QL but I don't buy in to the ironic "it's so bad it's good" thing so I can't watch it for hours and hours. After 30mins it's no longer funny and I'm just wasting my time watching a shit game.

Klepek is a really great newshound and an enjoyable personality, though he pales in comparison to Vinny's easy-going nature, Brad's drawl, or Jeff's surly... surliness and/or childlike wonder. (He works well with Ryan though)

damn so much Klepek hate up in here

I generally like Patrick. Love him on the bombcast and like his articles, but he's kind of overdoing it a bit in this one. Plenty of jokes seem to outstay their welcome while also being aggressively loud. Chanting "science" three or four times? Kinda funny. Chanting it about 20 times? Stops being funny.

The problem is that Patrick is better as an almost straight man with the occasional interjection but that's largely Ryan's bit so he's going for supremely wacky with constant color commentary. I also wonder if the lack of voice acting makes them feel obligated to talk more than is necessarily usual for an endurance run. Some of it feels like just talking for the sake of filling up space.

They've also left Patrick in the somewhat awkward position of not being able to react to anything with genuine surprise, so the only real option left is constant quipping.

Overall the game is sort of designed to be very beginner friendly. Shouldn't be a problem, but who knows. They could surprise us!

It's only the first few hours of the game, I'm sure they'll find a better rhythm as they get further along.

Just watched the first episode and boy was I amazed! That game looks so good. It's just the kind of jrpg I want to play, there's no random battles! I thought the game would be boring but no, I am hooked and want to see how it all ends! If this was on PS store I would buy right now!
