Gifts to get an outdoor person

Mistake

Alright, so my best friend is going through a rough spot, and I'd like to get him something really nice for his birthday. Problem is, I have no idea without making a long trip to cabellas in the hopes of finding something. Usually my personal style is to get an item that is practical and easy to carry, but I'm not sure what he could use. He's the type that regularly goes camping or four wheeling, has a truck and does stuff around the yard. We're kind of opposite in terms of what we like to do, which is why I'm asking. Maybe you guys have ideas. My budget is under $300. Thanks

I bought an eno hammock and straps years ago and it's great. Won't break the bank and you can set it up anywhere between 2 trees. They are super popular at the park i work at in denver.

That's very kind of you and you should either ask him or do like the previous poster said with a gift card.

For example, we don't know what he already owns. Perhaps he only has a one season sleeping bag. Or he likes to go hammock camping, but doesn't have a good tarp yet. Or maybe he doesn't have a good water filtering system. Or maybe he wants a good UL tent or sleeping pad.

The questions are endless and you risk ending up buying something he already has.

The gift card is a good idea. Camping gear can get quite expensive especially if he's into lightweight backpack camping

I figured there might be some quirky or interesting ideas here. A gift card feels like low effort to me. He does backpacking as well, so I'm sure he has a lot of standard stuff already. Him and his girlfriend go out together, so he probably uses a sleeping bag

If he goes tenting you could get him one of those sleeping bags for two or maybe they are called double sleeping bags. Or depending on your country and if there's a lot of mosquitoes you could get him a Thermacell. :)

knives are always good and a nice water bottle is a hit too.

If he camps, grab him some of the higher end field ration dehydrated food
