It's all conjecture since only two parties know the absolute truth, and it isn't Apple nor Gawker/Gizmodo.

i'm digging the glass/ceramic back, and with the breakdown showing an apple cutout in the aluminum back, i wonder if this means that the logo will be backlit like on the Macbooks?
giz said it was shiny like the 3gs

Oh god, I hope he’s referring to that Apple watermark placed over the image from that chinese site.

d'oh. i was referring to the now-i-cant-find-it chinese images of the internal metal frame/shield of an iphone product with the apple cut out of the back metal shielding.

:lol That was a watermark on the image.

if that is the final design i am going to turn in my apple iphone fan boy card, and go to johnny's house and beat him till he realizes that it's lame generic design.

Take away the prototype seams, and it isn't much different than this:

THANK YOU!

yeah, it's not "OMFG WHO APPROVED THAT??" bad... but it is probably the most generic design they could have come up with today. It looks like the vast majority of Blackberry's and wanna-be-smarthphones that you see people have these days.

If that is the final design, you can bet it will feel good in your hand. Remember people who thought the iPad looked uncomfortable?

Apple makes products that feel good when you hold them (excluding mice, for some reason).

If you have a fanboy card then there's already a bigger problem.

the seams are inoffensive if retained. otherwise, this phone looks more inline with Apple's computer/laptop line. i likey.

I don't get the hate for the design. It looks way better than my 3g. If they don't change it too much, they'll have my money when it comes out

It just doesn't look rounded enough to be a final design. Perhaps a little too boxy. The flat back is nice, but it is the metal ring that looks odd on it to me.

The design cues are too european and looks too similar to sony ericsson phones.
That would make a lot of sense considering Apple has been emulating Braun's classic style for a decade now.

I read the article, looks like a tweaked version of the current one. Updated version, not revolutionary.
Uh? What revolution are you expecting in a new version of a phone? This is the biggest update in the phone's history.

So Verizon is going to get an entirely different model?
One train of that is that AT&T will maintain exclusivity for the latest model until late this year (when the contract runs out), while Verizon will get the 3GS.

This is just a rumor, since we don't know anything concrete.

Is there anything different with the internals? It doesn't seem drastically different from the 3Gs. I guess im an Apple Hater, but there's nothing this has over the HD2, Incredible, or any other upcoming major smartphone shown off as of yet.

I'm confused. The screen's a little higher rez, the phone's a slightly different shape, the buttons are metal now instead of plastic, and they've added flash and a front camera. The update is appreciated, but it's just not that big of a deal.

Now that you mention it, that does look a lot like my friend's old Sony-Ericsson.

I want to stay skeptical about this, but the evidence seems overwhelming for it to be real. I remember when leaked photos of the current gen iPod Nano (Skinny with video camera) came out and everyone dismissed them as fake since Apple would never design something so rediculous. Turned out to be the real deal.

Guess we'll find out this Summer. :D

The software is always the big deal with the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad.

The story would be better if the phone had been stolen by a prostitute instead of left at a bar.

It would be even better if it had been stolen from Jobs by a prostitute.

It would be the best story of all time if it had been stolen from Jobs by a prostitute that turned out to be a tranny.

Double resolution. It's nearly iPad resolution and catches up with new Android phones.

Flash and a front camera are the biggest deals of all. It opens up brand new potential for new types of applications.

I think you're looking at it like the hardware has to be impressive. Apple and the public don't care about the hardware. They care that there is enough hardware to make the software impressive. The software is where it is all at. After all, what makes Android any different than an iPhone?

Yea it is a big deal especially with the improvements from iphone os4.

Hmm...the more I watch those Gizmodo videos, the more I'm OK with the design.

I'll live if that's final I guess. :lol

More apps on the iPhone, and the interface is more polished on the iPhone.

Agreed about your hardware -> software statement.

this is another huge difference between iphones and other smartphones. the hardware bells and whistles on the iphone and other phones usually pale in comparison to the API updates and OS features. I am guessing from an entertainment standpoint, Apple Games Network will be substantially more interesting to new iphone buyers than adding an SD slot or FM receiver. just using AGN as an example, but yeah.... OS and API features definitely trump anything for the phone itself.

They'll kill the 3G, drop the 16GB 3GS to $99 and intro a 32 and 64GB of the new model.
This is my guess as well. They won't leave the entry level 4G at 16 hb if they leave the 3gs around at the 99$ price point.

seems like another one of apple's marketing tricks. i am liking the new design. let's wait and see until we know the exact specs. the only thing i want them to improve on a new model is the camera + added flash since the current one is utterly useless if you aren't using it in broad daylight.

^ Apple doesn't need "marketing tricks" to get attention. the last few years should have taught you that. if they make something known, it'll capture the attention of every blog, tech website, and significant newspaper in the world the next day.

say that now. wait until they show how the phone benefits from the new features.

on paper, you could have said that the original iPhone was just another touch-screen phone amid a sea of touchscreen phones.

we know how that turned out.

and smh @ guys complaining about the design. thank God they upgraded the look. don't be mad now that your 3GS looks like last year's shit.
