Pics of your pad thread.
Oh, so I haven't checked that thread in a while. So you studied the photos I posted to figure out what street I lived on and then you posted that information in the thread? Wow, that's not creepy at all. Doesn't GAF have rules against amateur detective shit like this?

^ it very much does have rules against that.

And point me to the software. Multitasking? iBooks? Video recording? Voice dialing? A lot of the stuff they have announced lately existed in other phones that is all software based. That's why you get people rolling their eyes and saying either Android or Palm OS did it already. What part of that is hard to understand? I'm glad to be getting the features finally, but I can understand why someone on another phone would say that. I've seen stuff in other phones that peaked my interest and made me consider switching when my contract was up. I think some people from other phones would like to see the same. I heavily considered a Palm Pre 2nd iteration when it was announced but it's not even a possibility now cuz of where Palm is.
is the front-facing camera a first?

and either way, isn't it fair to say we'll see the most innovation with a front-facing camera Vis-à-vis the iPhone?

The software.

That's what was innovative about the first iPhone and what will be innovative about every single iPhone and Android phone until the end of time. Unless the hardware starts letting us time travel.
I think it's also safe to say that there is little room for OS innovation as Apple's competition has narrowed the gulf dramatically in featureset and, arguably, UI experience.

It's about developers developers developers, an avenue Apple still wins overwhelmingly with.

You posted photos of the city I live in. I have done nothing against the TOS. Quit crying baby.

actually i kinda like the mac-book (only the pro). it will last you at least 4 years. plus you have both max os x and windows. Linux is just to unstable for me even though i love the experience.

I would have got the new pros if they had blu-ray, but i consider that a feature that i must have for my new laptop so went with a vaio. I just know i will be kicking myself if I went ahead and purchased one and then Apple introduced a blu-ray one next year. I have no doubt that many people would just rebuy but I am poor :(

sunsetsf is close to joining the top posters in the thread list, a group he dismissed as posters that should be paid off by Apple.

Apple hired him to get people off the topic of the leaked iphone...mission complete. Brilliant.

Ok, what was the last ground breaking thing the iPhone has added that people can get excited over? The front facing camera might be the first interesting thing being added, but before today, what else was there? That's why the complaints typically are "LOL, Droid or Pre already did that"

There's a difference between not being impressed with the next iteration and mocking. The bolded part of your post is clearly mocking, which is just a nicer word for trolling, which is what we're talking about. You give these trolls too much credit. The people making comments like that are the ones who dont live (as in not just used it for 2 mins) with the phone.

And all this talk of someone saying "LOL, Droid already did that! Apple should lead and not copy" is bullcrud as everybody is following in the footsteps of the iPhone OS. What you're asking for is a total overhaul of the iPhone OS at every update, instead of just improving on whats there, giving people what they asked for and already paid for.

Marty, don't get me wrong, I think you're a balanced guy. Although you're rarely ever positive on Apple topics, you bring up good points and back it up. I don't consider you a troll because you don't mock. Thats the difference between you and a troll. Don't defend them.

I am curious though, what do you want Apple to do with iPhone OS/hardware for them to be a leader "again"?

8 on 1. Bring it on... Within TOS like ringleader Gary said
I doubt a mod will give a shit whether you're officially within TOS or not.

So even if it's in the TOS, that makes it an intelligent, mature thing to do?
The question I have to ask the moderators of GAF: Are you going to follow your own rules? If I wanted to move in and shut that place down, do I have grounds under their own forum policy?

I hope thats the final look, its really nice to me. Looks more industrial. Really enjoying my Nexus one right now but I have no brand loyalty, will pick one up if its worth it. :lol

I actually really like the design of it - though I hope that the final version has more of a unibody design to match that of the macbook pro/imac line, other than that, I love the separate buttons for the volume.

Not sure if I'll pay the cost to upgrade, since I'll only be one year into my 2-yr contract come July, but I'll definitely be picking up next year if it manages to improve upon this proposed model.

http://ihnatko.com/2010/04/19/the-increasingly-plausible-miraculous-engadget-and-gizmodo-iphone-4g/

My final opinion was incorrect but my thinking was spot-on. There’s a difference between a counterfeit (like my fake iPhone 3G) and a mere knockoff. A knockoff isn’t sold with the intent that it’ll survive side-by-side scrutiny. It’s there to fulfill someone’s desire to have something like the real thing. It’s aimed at the classic globalization fanboy: it’s not the features that they want…it’s the logo.

And this Apple prototype does indeed look like a knockoff. Remember what I said about the “design brief” of a knockoff? Every design choice is the answer to the question “How can we redesign this to make it way, way less expensive to manufacture?” This prototype is full of flat surfaces — easy as pie to fabricate — and studded with round switches that can be installed without any custom tooling.

The innards of this prototype appear to be genuine, based on Gizmodo’s dissection. But I still have some doubts about the case. This could be just a “carrying around” design, built to give the innards shape and form for human testing. It’s possible that Apple never had any intention of using it as the design of the actual consumer product. “We just need to slap this in an iPhone-like case so that we can test the electronics” is another reason to choose an “easy and cheap to build” design.

(Admittedly, “What changes can we make to increase Apple’s profits?” is another reason for “easy and cheap to build.”)

I hope this isnt just a cheap casing apple gave it to do tests, I think it looks a lot fresher then the old casing.

I still think that the completely flat design of this new iPhone is a step back from the iPhone 3G. The 3G may not look super hot but damn if it isn't super comfortable to hold with those rounded edges. More so than the original, sexy looking brick.

So, if I had to list my personal pros and cons of this new design, based solely on pics and the video

Pros: thinner, aluminum build, possibly tough ceramic back, no chintzy chrome ring

Cons, seemingly less comfortable than rounded iPhones, seams on sides of unit (may be temporary), circular volume buttons feel out of place

i entered this thread at the right time it seems. i like the the form of this prototype in comparison. and if the itouch looks like this with a a 64gb drive, i might just have to jump in

Trolling is never in the TOS

I don't think stalking is also.
