Gizmondo: Strong Pre-Orders Reported

Posted On 12/02/04 @ 11:37 AM

London, 2nd December 2004 – Gizmondo Europe Ltd (Gizmondo), subsidiary of Jacksonville, Florida-based Tiger Telematics Inc (Other OTC: TGTL), today confirmed pre-order figures following the first TV teaser campaign, which began airing on terrestrial, satellite and cable across Europe in the last couple of weeks.

Over 560,000 pre-orders have been recorded since the new official website www.Gizmondo.com went live on 29th October. The majority of pre-orders originated from outside the UK, apparently from early adopters trying to purchase units ahead of the US and pan-European roll outs, scheduled for Q1 2005 - further evidence of mounting anticipation across the globe.

Niclas Hermansson, Ogilvy Interactive, says: "Online activity has been increasing. We're now recording over 250,000 unique sessions a week on the website, and have had up to 500,000 hits a day. There were over 40,000 unique sessions recorded within two minutes of the first TV ad being aired."

"This is a fantastic affirmation of interest in Gizmondo," said Carl Freer, Managing Director of Gizmondo, "We believe that realistically at least a half of these pre-orders will move to retail sales as availability in the stores ramps up in each territory. Nevertheless, these numbers bode extremely well for Gizmondo."

The Gizmondo device and its games are currently launching in the UK during the fourth quarter 2004, and in Continental Europe and North American markets during the first quarter 2005. The Company cannot project the ultimate number of orders it may receive for the device.

The Gizmondo is powered by a Microsoft Windows CE.net platform, boasts a 2.8-inch TFT colour screen with a Samsung ARM9 400Mhz processor and incorporates the GoForce 3D 4500 Nvidia graphics accelerator. It provides cutting-edge gaming, multimedia messaging, an MP3 music player, Mpeg4 movie playing capability, a digital camera and a GPRS network link to allow wide-area network gaming. Additionally, it contains a GPS chip for location based services, is equipped with Bluetooth for use in multi-player gaming and accepts MMC card accessories.

They've been pounding europeans with gizmondo hype/marketing.

not to mention that microsoft is supporting it directly.

Reirom will be proud.

If this sells 500,000 systems the first week the PSP will DOMINATE the handheld scene. Gizmondo is $400+! Who's buying these?!

I don't know where the hell this is coming from -- the only place I've heard of the god damned Gizmodo is on these forums.

BANNED

Its probably true though. I can't believe people are actually buying PSP "PRE-ORDERS" for almost $100 off Ebay right now! Beyond that there was at one time last week over 1000 auctions for Nintendoods!!!

I actually saw an ad for it last night. I was so shocked I spilt my drink, thats if I had of had a drink in hand in bed at the time

I bet it's the 250.000 weekly people who visit the site 14 TIMES A WEEK PER PERSON that caused it crash, they have all been placing tens of preorders which may or may not became sales! This company can't be publicly traded.

Erm are you being serious? This is the first I've heard of Gizmondo since a few months back, hell I thought it had gone the way of the Phantom. Doubting Joe Public knows any more.

Those are "store" pre-orders then.

Hideos, did you pick up the N-Gage? Are there any promising games for gizmondo that's not on their site? The list on their site is pathetic.

Same here.

Trust me there hasn't been any advertisement whatsoever, nor anything else. I'd guess the preorder numbers are all bogus as well to trick some investors into throwing money into a hole.

Man, that's a small screen -- even the DS has has two 3 inch screens (albeit, at a lower resolution).

Just change the name to Wipeout, then the floating cars will fit in.

there are adverts on UK tv all the time, they are pretty much "third place" take offs. Effective though, so it seems.

I would get one if they weren't so expensive. It's pretty much what the PSP should be. And you know it will run apps and homebrew stuff too.
