God damn The Twilight Zone (original) was a brilliant show

SciFi channel is doing their two-day marathon now (basically a super long commercial for the DVD of the show), but damn this show was so brilliant.

They've already had some great episodes. They just finished the one where the guy and girl where in the empty town and they turned out to be the toys of this giant alien kid.

There's a freaky movie called "Child's Play" (I think), which has nothing to do with Chucky. I won't spoiler it, but it's like one very long Twilight Zone episode. If you're a Zone veteran, you might have an easy time guessing the mindfuck - but the execution is pretty good and has some "WTF!?" moments along the way.

They are actually showing the show about the doll that you are referring to now on Sci-Fi. Has Telly Savalis(so) AKA Kojac in it with hair, or at least more hair than we are used to seeing him with.

I've always loved The Twilight Zone. My favorite is probably "The Long Morrow," where an astronaut going on some 40 year space mission deactivates his suspended animation so that he can come back old and be with his love, who he presumes will be old as well. When he returns it turns out that she had herself placed in suspended animation, so that she could be with him, and is still young.

I haven't been watching the entire marathon, so does anyone know if they've aird "There's...something...on the...wing" yet?

Easily one of the best series of all time.

If you're a fan of the series, the new DVD set is awesome. Unlike the past sets, the shows are placed in chronological order, and both audio and video have been restored. There are extras for nearly every episode, and the first season set comes with "The Twilight Zone Companion" which is fantastic in itself. A little pricey, but well worth it.

Ive always had a problem getting into old shows even if their good. it just does not appeal to me. But i believe The outer limits is the new age Twilight Zone. I used to watch that show all the time. do thay still make new episodes for that show?

Eee gad, the new Outer Limits are SHIT! Just like the newer Twilight Zone series'. Avoid at all costs. I love the original series of both shows, and lately I've been working my way through Season One of Outer Limits on DVD. I need to buy Season Two, but it costs just as much, for half the amount of episodes as S1. What a rip.

Sorry to bump this, but do you have a link to this set? I don't want to confuse it with the old one.

It was awesome to watch some of the marathon. So far ahead of its time.
How many episodes was Burgess Merideth in anyhow?

I saw 3 with him on Sat alone. The bookworm nuclear war, the one where he's sentenced to death for not being useful and one I never saw where he would print the news stories before they happened.

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
Twilight Zone + Outer Limits = can't miss TV.

I have a few favorite TZ eps including A Nice Place to Visit, People Are Alike All Over, Execution and The Eye of the Beholder.

COCKLES

being watched
The new ones don't have the atmosphere of the older stuff.

But I did remember one really cool one from a few years ago...think it was a OL episode. Where this nerdy guy marries this ultra fit chick....later on when his making out with her he gets a split second vision where she's really this ultra-repulsive alien creature monster thing. As time goes on it gets worse and worse. Turns out she really is this disgusting (and the SFX were superb...really repulsive when she's fully revealed) monster who has the ability to control men's minds (she wasn't a badguy...just wanted to be loved)....unfortuantly the mind contral gradulally wears off. Great episode!

I didn't realize that while talking about it, I forgot to say it's season by season, and not the complete collection. Anyways, here's the link for the 1st season:

Also, Coconuts has it for $70, with a 10% off coupon you can trigger when you enter FIRSTPURCHASE while checking out...I think I got it for about $68 shipped.

I love the episode with the woman who is really a manequin and doesn't know. I can't remember the name of it though. "I'm trying to return this thimble dammit!!!" :lol

The "Theres a man on the wing of this plane!" episode is my favorite. It gets even better when you see John Lithgow perform it.

Wasn't there an updated version of the series on TV recently with Forrest Whittaker? I think it sucked really bad. If they want to do an update to the series, they have to keep it like the old series. For one thing, I think it should have been shown in black and white. A black and white show on primetime television in this day and age would make people say WTF first of all.
Next, they would have to keep within the subject matter. The Twilight Zone touched on some really dark stuff. Ever see that episode where that guy turns into a nazi and eventually he starts holding conversations with Hitler? o_O

Yeah, the 2002 version of the series was pretty bad. There also was another Twilight Zone series done in 1985 with 63 episodes, and it's supposed to be pretty good. I never saw that one.

I recently watched two old black and white episodes of The Outer Limits, and they were actually much worse than the 90's series.

There's only one good 80s TZ episode. It's the 'time' one. Tales from the Darkside was the best anthology weird show of the 80s. Why don't we have shows like that anymore?

EDIT: I enjoy Night Gallery a good deal more than TZ, although there are clunkers. OF course, TZ has lots of clunkers. It's called Season 3 (the one hour episodes).

EDIT 2: Yup, that's the one I mean.

Is that the one where the couple wakes up "out of time" and finds out that every minute is actually a different place and a construction crew has to build the world for every minute? That was actually a pretty cool episode - not really freaky in any way - but an interesting tale. Not sure if there was another 'time' one though, as that's the only episode of the 80's show that I remember seeing.
