True.

Only thing is, AC6 isn't one of such niche hidden gem. Its a popular release that topped charts and got tons of people playing it, so it doesn't apply.
For sure. But I wager that's more that FromSoft is more well known with their success with Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring. So more people were willing to give AC6 a try.

Other Mecha games are not as prominent. Because they are not popular. So while AC6 is not a niche hidden gem, it is a niche genre.

Could make the exact same argument for BG3 and CRPGs. Larian built a good fame with DOS series and furthered it with a DnD license, which culminated into the massive success of the game.

Or do you think people ran in droves to play Pillars of Eternity and Disco Elysium? Even Pathfinder which also DnD-based is very low-key when compared to the big portion of the industry.

I would say CRPG had bigger chance being more popular in west compare to Mecha games. Even If you say it wasn’t popular on console, it still was popular on PC and PC gaming was pretty popular on west. Mecha games (especially Japanese Mecha games) just wasn’t popular in west no matter what.

thankfully AC6 selling well but in west centric awards shows, Mecha games almost has zero chance.

No, i'm not saying it wasn't popular on console. I'm saying it wasn't popular in general.

For example its estimated Baldurs Gate 2 sold in ten years around 2 million copies in total, thats less than AC6 sold in 2 months. They were always niche games for the most part, BG3 is literally the first CRPG to go full mainstream.

And again, you're looking through lens of physical distribution times, when games made in japan didn't necessarely got into the west, or got in low volumes. That was one of the main reasons these game wouldn't caught on normally. In today's digital distribution market its perfectly possible for a JP developer to sell a niche game to western audiences and find success.

If they're now able to sell VN out of all typically JP genres to us and find a good audience, they'll be able to sell mech games just fine. The games just need to exist and be good, much like AC6.

I'm not saying JP niche genres cant find success, what I'm talking about which what this topic is about there are JP genres that has no chance in west centric game awards show and Japanese mecha games are one of them.

In 2020 awards show 13 Sentinels couldn't even win as best story or art direction......fucking seriously? Most because either majority of judges didn't play 13 Sentinels or character designs are too "sexy" for them.

To get audience in these shows they just need to gain popularity. AC6 just happened to draw a bad card by releasing in a year like 2023, but if AC7 releases in a drier years like another 2021 (and its still good), it'll definitely get plenty of awards. Heck, AC6 had 3 nominations in this golden joystick awards, its definitely not flying under their radars.

Final Fantasy XVI audio over Octopath Traveler II is just sad.
Octopath Traveler 2 is a masterclass. The voicework and music is top tier. A LOT of audio was recorded for this game. Just finished it this week, - took me 80 hours. It’s a AAA game, really, just in this realm of huge-budget graphical games it’s unfortunately never going to get the same attention as FFXVI. A shame.

I'm someone who really enjoyed FFXVI but Octopath 2's music is godtier and even go as far as say they are Nier level good.

Is the PS5 version good ? It plays perfectly with a controller ? I am tempted by damn 69€ it's a high price for a digital title. And I bought Alan Wake 2 on day one (but it was 59).

Might not be my pick but at least it's not homogenized crap like literally all the games on there.

Still haven't dug much deeper int BG3 since I was there for early access but I'm fairly certain it turned our to be a great game. Congrats on the team for taking the risk and making an actually interesting game.

Talos principle 2 got snubbed but it's ok, it's only just released and games media are pretty much thick as pig shit so I don't see them both understanding it or completing it.

Edit: I haven't played AW2 or AC6 yet so I can't judge their quality just yet

Yeah it plays just fine with a controller. I play on PC and still preferred to play it with a controller. Makes controlling the characters navigating the environment much more intuitive.

They just need to introduce some hentai into the equation and money, fame, user base goes straight to the Mooooon and beyond. It's the same model how certain porstars are monetized. Pornstar creates the usual movie where bodily fluids are exchanged. But as an added plus the pornstar is present on youtube, tiktok, facebook and instagram, plus onlyfans of course. You could land in trouble, when you accidentally watch her youtube channel where she talks about innocent things and how she likes her dog, because nothing shows that she has any adult background. You only see the beautiful, innocent lady with a possible Phd, but of course the hormone monkeys gonna write her name into google and bamm... their darkest and deepest desires are fulfilled right away!

recipe: tentacle monsters terrorizing top 0.001% looks babe, you, the shiny virgin knight flying to the rescue... all this from a Kojima like designer, Snoop Dogg in the trailers and money just flows in.

But the combat and UI much worse. I liked the controller too but when I switched to M&KB every now and then it was so much easier lol

It's because tiktok and yt shorts amplify the marketing effect big time. If you frequent these sites, you have seen the coverage they have received. It was literally flowing from everywhere. BG2 was also mainstream, just the available options to market the game was meagre. BG2 was released in 2000, while YT only started operating in 2005. Also, BG3 was only completed by 16,2 percent of the user base. That's 3,5 million...ish from ~22 million sold copies. And these people mostly went with the main storyline and didn't give a fuck about sidequests. And only around 35% left the second act by now. That's a very very bad ratio. That means the game is too long and a lot of people just stopped it halfway.
