5.0 Presentation
The game product needs a lot of polishing. Poor story telling really makes it difficult to understand what's going on. But the focus on multiplayer bumps up the score a bit.
7.0 Graphics
Smooth graphics engine and decent level designs, but the game's got some really bland character modeling and animation.
3.0 Sound
Awful, awful sound engine. It's downright terrible. Turn down the music if you want to save your sanity.
7.0 Gameplay
Despite the loose ends, this isn't a bad playing first-person shooter. And proves, at the very least, that the DS is indeed a good platform for these kinds of games.
7.5 Lasting Appeal
The main storyline missions are over surprisingly quick, but the virtual training missions and the multiplayer options keep things spicy.
6.5 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent has the luxury of being the first FPS title on the Nintendo DS, but it's clear that sacrifices to the game's production were made to get it there. On the surface it's a good, fun, action shooter, but the game lacks an extra layer or two of polish to tighten up the production. It's better than most, if not all of the first-person shooters on the Game Boy Advance due to the better technology and touch-screen control, but with the added capabilities comes higher standards. And it's pretty clear that, as fun as the game is, Rogue Agent needed a bit more time in development to really shine on the Nintendo DS.
