Good books/sources that are the equivalant of english, history 101 etc?

Looking at brushing up on my basics before I take some vocational rehab disability testing so I dont come out as dumbest disabled person they ever tested :lol
Will any book out there due or does someone recommend any special books that are the best equivalant of english, history, geography 101, etc?
Hopefully my messed up lesion filled brain can retain info enough to get good score for some career funding!
I think in passing once someone recommend authored named Azar?

Easiest thing to do would probably be to look up what textbooks are used in those courses and just read those. I find most college textbooks to be a good bit more readable than highschool textbooks, in terms of enjoyment. Hopefully others can chime in with some more practical examples though.
