Anyone got a good recomendation for car stereos that allow you to hook up an iPod? My car's stock stereo only has a CD player and I've heard those iTrips don't work well in major cities, so I'm looking at replacing my stock stereo with one that can work with my iPod.

Seems like there are a lot of options out there and I can't tell what a good deal is.

alpine has a good system. In fact I just got a new ride so i have my alpine ipod system just sittin in my garage. ill sell it to you for dirt cheap. PM me if interested.

Please list Alpine model # and post pics, please. I'm always screwing around with headunits in my car and I'm interested in toying with an Alpine.

alpine, or if your current stereo has RCA inputs on the back, just use that.

Belkin do a good auto kit which takes the line out (so better quality than headphones) and a power cable for your lighter.

If you're thinking of spending money (the alpine kit will cost you), then denison do ICElink which supports most brands of factory CD player and basically replace a CD autochanger.

luckily i have a cassette in my car, so I just use a cassette adapter. Quality is fine via headphones but I'll probably get the belkin kit to improve it a bit. Soon I'll upgrade to the griffin cassette adapter which also lets you use the car cassette controls to skip tracks and pause.

I looked and P.I.E. has hookups for most factory changer-capable stereos. What is nice about that is instead of just RCA hookups, it also let's you control your iPod from the head unit. This is what I'm looking at (cable is around $70 IIRC for my 2000 Civic). Of course your unit needs to be changer-capable.

You can download instructions on how to pull apart your dash. after that its cake. otherwise you can take it to best buy and pay $50 for install.

this is a really excellent headend, great power in the built in amp and 3 pre-outs if your connecting up an amp. Pioneer also do an iPod adpater that connects to the IP-BUS on the back of the radio for full control of your ipod.
