Good Dreamcast action games?

Idioteque

I'm looking for a good dreamcast action game. I was thinking of picking up Blue Stinger, but I've read mixed reviews on it. Anyone play it?

What are some others worth checking out?

Blue Stinger is unintentionally hilarious. The way the characters talk while moving their arms around got me laughing most of the time.

I wouldn't say it's an awesome game, but it's pretty good. Well, kinda good. And if I remember correctly, there's a New Game+, but wait until someone else confirms it. It's been years since I last played it.

"Action" is pretty broad. If you're thinking arcadey stuff (fighters, shooters), the Dreamcast is oozing with em.

But definitely get MDK2 if you can't/won't play the PC version.

MDK2 is one of the best third-person shooters ever, its tops.
Berserk is pretty awesome too, its the first 3D beat-em-up I got to really like, its based off the manga, but if you've seen the anime, its not much of a stretch.
Bangai-O is great, and hilarious. Love it.
Gunbird 2 is the wackiest 2D shooter that's ever been released in America, its also pretty awesome.
Zombie Revenge was pretty nifty too, House of the Dead without the first person perspective.
Cannon Spike is a great mix of Capcom fanservice/beat-em-up/shooter. Its lovely.

MDK2 is amazing.

Slightly off-topic, but is it good on PS2? I don't have a Dreamcast with me in my dorm, but I have a hankering for the game.

Ugh. When I think about it. There really isn't a whole lot of good Action titles for the Dreamcast.

Ecco the Dolphin
Gauntlet Legends
Jet Grind Radio
MDK2

Those are the main ones. I really wouldn't count Sonic Adventure and Rayman as "action games." Hell, I have a hard time counting Ecco as an action title...

There's also games like Charge n' Blast, and Die Hard Arcade, but those are really short arcade games that probably won't leave you too satisfied.

...yeah. Forgot about Zombie Revenge.

But again, its an Arcade game. It can be finished in an hour.

(still fun though. :))

Seriously, this game rocks hard.

+1 Bangai-oh

Another for Bangai-O, great fucking game

others:

MDK2 (really a showpiece for the system, fucking awesome)
Red Dog (one of the most underrated games ever! a FUCKING GEM)
Toy Commander (awesome, nice variety)
Sword of Berserk (great in terms of presentation, sound, graphics, semi-weak gameplay)
Illbleed (simply so wacky it needs a a try)
Record of Lodoss War (decent action/rpg)

Otherwise, stick with shooters, the REs, Alone in the Dark ain't bad, lots of good racing games too (Test Drive Le Mans, Test Drive VRally, Wacky Races, SF RUSH 2049)

Yeah its actually the original Sonic VAs - Elliot = Sonic, Dogs = Robotnik and Janine = Rouge. Its an OK game but with some great secrets (Pen Pen references, Sumo T-shirt, lighsaber)

Other recommended games

Bangai-O
Dynamite Cop (highly recommended)
Headhunter
Jet Set Radio
Soul Reaver
MDK2
Berserk
Evil Twin
Rayman 2

Blue Stinger is a weird one. I could criticise it for a long time, but in the end I just really like it. Very cool atmosphere and a truly intriguing story.

Red Dog, as mentioned, is the shit. Great game.

Jet Set Radio is a must.

Headhunter is great. As is Zombie Revenge and of course Rayman 2.

That's it, I'm hooking my Dreamcast up later.

All of these are pretty cheap now, except probably Berserk, so your quality tolerance should be scaled down accordingly, but...

Berserk, especially if you like the anime.
Zombie Revenge, good for kicks, better on mutiplayer.
Dynamite Cop, pretty much the same concept as Zombie Revenge.
Lodoss War. I can't remember the exact title, but it's a decent Diablo clone.
Power Stone. I can't believe nobody mentioned this.
Jet Set Radio.
There was this Capcom-published Gundam game that was an arcade port that came out near the end of the Dreamcast's life that was pretty good. I don't remember what the title is.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who enjoyed Zombie Revenge.

That game had so much potential, but the controls ruined the experience for me.

my top recommendations would be MDK 2 and berserk here, if you never played jet grind radio that tops the list. MDK 2 is incredible, but it is pretty difficult, be prepared for some frustration, berserk is a much shorter experience, but real fun anyway.
