Good Games that takes 40 hours or less to beat?

I just beat Metroid Prime Remastered, took me about 21 hours to beat and I got most items. Fantastic game.

I'm looking for good games of any genre that's 40 hours or less, since I only have around 1 or 2 hours a day to game, maybe 3 or 4 hours on the weekend.

I believe a lot of members here in some old thread stated that they also don't really have that much time to game. I can't do a Red Dead Redemption 2 or Cyberpunk anymore, unless I'm on vacation. Even a 40 hour game might take me 2-3 weeks to beat. So, need some recommendations.

Tons of them. What genre or kind of game are you looking for?

Couldn't tell you. I fall asleep playing a lot. Some of my saves could say 70 hours played even though I'm in act 1 because most of time spent was sleeping.

Might help if you narrow it down a bit. What genres do you like?
Also I assume you mean 40 hours to do everything in the game? Because you can easily beat the main quest and even do a lot of sidequests in Cyberpunk in under 40 hours.

also it's down to your play style. for example, you could technically beat cyberpunk <40 hours if you purely focus on the main story.

The original Unreal. I'm certain it's the inspiration behind a lot of Metroid Prime: the sense of isolation on a hostile planet, exploring ancient alien civilization ruins.
Plus it's freeware now.

Thanks for the responses. It looks like RE9 will be my next game, looks good and it's short.

I'm looking for games where you can do most things and beat it within 40 hours. Metroid Prime Remaster was a perfect game for me.

I also played Red Dead Redemption 1 again after years, and it took me about 35 hours or so and I did most stuff.

Last year I played a game that was recommended here called Sleeping Dogs, and that game took me around 40 hours or so to beat and I also did most stuff.

So any genre and no matter how old.

What platform? Sounds like Switch and PS4 are on the table.

Here's a few recommendations in the meantime:

- 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
- Ace Combat 7
- Chrono Trigger
- Disco Elysium
- Kena: Bridge of Spirits
- Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
- Resident Evil 4 (original or remake)
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Super Mario Galaxy
- The Messenger
- The Wolf Among Us

Knights of the Old Republic

I've played it half a dozen times. Each time it took between 32-36 hours to complete.

It would probably be easier to list good non-RPG games that take more than 40 hours to beat.

Outside of RPGs and RPGlites some 99% of games are sub 40 hours.
So basically every good game.

If you look at non-open world games and no RPGs, then I would say that most can be beaten in less than 40 hours.

My favorites are the fairly linear action-adventure games (e.g., Uncharted, Mafia).

But just about any game other than big, open world RPGs would fit that criteria.

I second Uncharted and Mafia. Perfect SP games for someone to experience 1-2 hours of storytelling and go to bed. Repeat the next day. Also the Tomb Raider reboots are pretty good for that.

All the luigis mansions
Steam world dig 2 is great
Chrono trigger
Professor Layton series if you like puzzles
Snake Pass a unique platformer where you control a snake

40 hours? Basically any non RPG is pretty much less than 40. Even GTA games are under 40 when you focus on main story.

The mainline Wolfenstein games by Machine Games are lots of wacky fun. Their Indiana Game is also better than it has any right to be. High on life 1 and 2 are very enjoyable as well. I was surprised at how often the humor hit, as that's not typically something I look for in a video game, but it had me chuckling.

Hades 1 / 2

Max Payne 1, 2 and 3
Uncharted 1, 2 and 3
Gears of War 1, 2 and 3
Dead Space 1, 2 and 3
REmake 1, 2 and 3
Ratchet & Clank remake PS4
Ratchet & Clank PS5
Quantum Break
RYSE
Hi Fi Rush

All of the recent Resident Evil remakes are good options. Ori and the sequel are good choices. Dark Souls series. I mean outside of jrpgs and open world games pretty much most games fit that criteria. Even open-world games if you don't just get lost in the side content and RPGs will fall under 40 hours most of the time.

Any Mario game. Any non-BotW Zelda game. Any Metroid game. Basically any Nintendo game.

Also, Astro Bot.
