It's a bit of a shallow reason to look for games, so I apologise for this

I've just got a widescreen TV for the first time so I want to see as many games as I can that really use the widescreen format to its potential. Unfortunately I've noticed that some PS2 games don't actually use proper widescreen ie like God Of War. While it is anamorphic, it actually shows less image than the full screen version, as it simply crops the image. GT4 is proper widescreen and it shows. The detail and higher resolution makes a big difference over the fullscreen version.

Are there a lot of PS2 games like this that will show a true, anamorphic, widescreen picture? Same goes for the GC - Resi 4's non-anamorphic picture is pretty inferior to the PS2 one; even though the GC version has better lighting, I think I prefer the PS2's RE4 for the higher resolution graphics. I can't actually think of any widescreen GC games though. Anyone able to help?

I should be able to borrow a few of these soon to test things out. I'm surprised how few GC games are widescreen though, and that only a few Nintendo games are at all. I hadn't noticed before because I wasn't looking for it but there's a lot less choice than I was expecting

Dragon Quest VIII, and surprisingly enough, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (PS2) support 16:9.

edit: Star Ocean III supports 16:9 as well.

SOCOM 3 has widescreen support. I don't know if that's your kind of game, just throwing it out there.

Thanks. I know someone who has Star Ocean 3 so I'll lend that. I don't know if it's my type of RPG or not but I'll give it a go

I would probably enjoy Socom 3. I liked number 2 even though it took me a while to get used to the controls. It's not out in Europe yet though (surprise!!) so I'll have to wait
