hangouts is probably my favorite thing google has done outside of gmail, they better not fucking shelve it. It's uber useful. I use it constantly.

If Apple really wants to make an impact on privacy protections they should collaborate with Google on imessage or whatever new standard to replace SMS. Yes non US folks I know you guys don't text. Talking about the land of the free here though.

I have heard plenty of people say that iMessage is the main thing keeping them on iOS (though I will never understand why). Apple has no interest in developing a replacement that doesn't require an iDevice.

Same here. The only apps I've had issues with have been the PSN Messaging app (a dialog appears saying something about logs) and the Destiny Companion app (doesn't load my characters).

Does anyone know what a nexus 9g is? I was looking to see if the nexus 7 2013 got in the n beta(longshot I know). And on the list of compatible phones and tablets is nexus 9g. It comes after the nexus 9 so it's not just a added g. Also the only thing that comes up when I search nexus 9g in Google are articles talking about the Android N beta. Just thought it was wierd.

yeah, i get the same issue with the ps messaging app, kinda wish you could see messages via web or pc app.

Indeed. At least Hangouts has pretty deep penetration already so updating it with these features would have worked to get it in people's hands. But to get people to install two new apps? It'll be a tough sell. Especially if it turns out they don't work on older versions of Android.

I heard Android Apps are coming to Chromebooks with native support.

What does this mean? Is it worth getting an Acer 14" 2016 Chromebook for a high student between 14-18 years old. Can it do programming and digital art?

Google has confirmed to Android Police that the company will continue to invest in Hangouts and it will remain a separate product.

Fucking lol. It's amazing how Google refuses to ever give any one of their messaging apps a fighting chance. A few years ago people thought they were finally bringing everything together into one app (Hangouts), but naaah, now we're back to FOUR FUCKING APPS doing overlapping stuff. EDIT: Oh yeah, also Google Voice, but that's not a thing here.

Voice is in Hangouts now.
