Google Maps Killer?

i'm not amazed at all. why is it in dog-vision?

that said, at least they've managed to get detailed photo's of parts of Peoria that google maps hasnt gotten yet (most likely due to Caterpillar not allowing them that zoomed in pictures of the CAT plants in East Peoria, or some such nonsense)

it zooms in just as far to my old house in jersey. no more detail than google, and no color.

Seen this before. It can zoom in closer, but the road pathfinding is all wacky, takes you right through a house in my neighborhood :)

How exactly is it Virtual Earth when it only has North America ?

EDIT: My mistake but the search feature couldnt pick up Adelaide, Australia or just plain Australia. I can see my house clear as day in GoogleEarth, VirtualEarth only shows the peninsula.

It might be much more detailed but the map of the Germantown area is old as shit.. it's got to be at least 10 years old if not more!

EDIT:

Hmmm according to this missus it's even older...15-20 years old... damn... roads don't even extend that far on the map, though they are drawn in... the HUGE shopping center that's in this area... still corn fields...

I thought this thread was about a serial killer targeting people who've posted their google map locations on web forums. @_@

Yeah my house, is at least 1 1/2 to 2 years back in those pics...back before I bought it.

It's amazing that I could get close enough to tell that, really.

:lol

THAT would be insanse!

Well, i suppose this isn't the "killer" I made it out to be considering it's not as updated as it should be. But this zooming/interface is more detailed. Maybe MS and Google should share iideas? Yeah, likely...

1) it's not as detailed as google maps (at least not in brooklyn) they zoom in to about the same size, only msn isnt in color...

2) the maps are older than dirt... they show a train station pre-renovation that was renovated 10 years ago that google shows renovated...

3) they show dirt where the atlantic mall is :lol :lol :lol

Wow, this thing is terribly unimpressive. For one, it shows farmland where the mall is here, as well as where my house is (and I know this house has been here for a few years now. At least Google Earth shows them buiding my development and the mall actually built.

The black and white doesn't help much. I'll be sticking with Google.

Eh, they lease the maps from the same source. It is the same data on both.
Obviously it isn't the same data when one shows black and white farmland and another shows a large color shopping mall in the exact same location.

First off, I was referring to the first post. Most people should know I do not read threads, so I was not talking to MetatronM.

It is the same data, from the same company, from the same satellite. Nothing is more detailed.

If you don't read threads, then why be allowed to reply? :P

Did not know you had to read the whole thing first. I hit reply on the first post that I want to comment on, usually the first post in every thread.

I've looked at my dad's house on google earth, google maps and virtual earth. They were all the exact same image (you can tell from the cars on the street). Virtual earth is much closer than google maps, but google earth beats em both. Of course new satellite images are taken all the time so every area might not be the same, but they're all getting it from the same satellites i'm sure.

Google earth still reigns supreme and google maps has more features than virtual earth. I say keep on fighting, let's see what cool shit we can get.

I can't zoom in on some european areas either, but maybe I just can't get it working right. Just won't zoom in close enough.

What the fuck Microsoft! Whats with the low res black and white images for New York? Don't they know we're the most important place in the fucking world?

Google has an exclusive agreement with their provider, which has imagery that is much more up-to-date than Microsoft's. See also: Several weeks ago when someone saw that Microsoft's map images didn't show Apple's corporate campus, built after MSN's picture of the area was taken.

Ummm...then why do I see the exact same image of my dads house and the cars around it with google and MSN?

In the areas I looked at, it was the same data as Google. You can zoom in further with MSN, but the streets don't line up with the aerial view (you can zoom in that far with Google Earth, though.) The standard maps aren't as attractive as Google's, and overall the GUI for actually USING the thing isn't as well thought out or intuitive as Google's.

And the API isn't open for people to embed it into sites or products.

Winner GOOGLE.

Because its different for different tilesets around the world. Some areas have more detail, some have less, and some have the same. One thing seems to be fairly consistent though, Microsoft's maps appear to have a lot more old data than the google maps tile sets.

This is amazing. Amazingly bad.

The thing is wicked slow, the interface is clunky, and it has a tenth of the Google Maps functionality. MS playing catch up again and failing.
