Google Project Fi phone service.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
So I've been using Google's phone service Project Fi for about 4 months now and it's been working great for me. Apparently it prioritizes Wifi for calls and data but also uses T-Mobile and Sprint cell towers when Wifi isn't available.

The only catch to the project fi service is that in order to use it you have to have a Nexus or Pixel device. For me that isn't a bad thing since the Pixel is without a doubt the best Android phone on the market right now. I finally got mine last week the build quality is superb and it's the most buttery smooth OS out there. Honestly I feel like the Pixel running Android 7.1.1 is a smoother experience than iOS. Purely my opinion though and I'm sure some will disagree.

Project Fi is also hella cheap. My bill the past 4 months has never been over $50. It's $20 a month for calls, texts, and 24/7 support and $10 per GB of data. If you pay for 2 GB of data and only us 1.25 you only pay for the data you use so you'll see a credit on your statement for unused data.

I just noticed that Project Fi is also now offering a $20 referral bonus for getting friends and family to join the network. So if you get a couple people to join with your referral code you could essentially get free voice, text, and support.

If anyone wants to sign up using my code I'll get a $20 credit and you will too after 30 days of service.

My code is:
UPN12E

**PS... I promise I don't work for Google (wish I did) and I'm not a paid shill just looking share my experience with the service and save myself and GAF some money if anyone decides to try out Project Fi. **

**Lock it up if this isn't allowed.**

Sucks that it is restricted to just Google phones or I'd consider it.
I think it's been reported to work with other phones as well, but it has to be activated on a Nexus/Pixel. Then again, I don't know if it has regular checks for a supported device down the line.

I've been using it for a year but am thinking of switching because it's too expensive. I find myself paying $60 or $70 per month because of heavy data usage. Web browsing is my biggest data sucker every month. I guess websites nowadays are choc full of images and scripts.

I wish I knew about referral codes before I signed up last month. So far I love it, as well as my Nexus 5X. I only have 5 days left on my monthly plan, but I only used 20 megs of data all month thanks to free WiFi practically everywhere.

I've used it since the 5x came out. It's not bad but not a good choice for people who need data. I did enjoy paying the same rate for data when I was abroad.

I don't think stuff like this is allowed because the forum would become a trashy mess of people posting referral links.

Loving Project Fi - I always use very little data (thanks free WiFi) and Verizon were charging me ~$60p/m for a plan, so I switched. I haven't noticed bad coverage anywhere, and if you have a WiFi signal, everything is even better. Got it with a Pixel XL.

I'm paying around $25-30 based on how much data I use so yeah. Definitely worth it if you live in a region that has it.

It also uses US Cellular as a carrier now. That is actually the strongest carrier in some locations when I visit my family in the rural Midwest.

I have not switched yet because I am grandfathered in to a super cheap plan on Sprint that has unlimited data. But if they ever kick me off I'll probably go to Fi.

Crazy that's what you consider cheap there.

Here in France we get unlimited calls/texts/data + 20 gb of 4G for 10€, on a big network.

I was planning on making the jump with pixle, but honestly the premium price drove me off that idea for now.

So still using my trusty N5 and TMobile $30 PayG plan.

Maybe next year.

$50 doesn't seem that cheap. My 6gb plan with Verizon is less overall.

I guess if you're a low data user it's okish

That's where I am too. Have access to Wi-Fi, so end up paying less than $30 most months.

What makes the plan great for me is the international calling rates. No more inconvenience of calling cards or dialing another number. Rates for calling most phones in the UK is 1 cent a minute!

My 6 GB Verizon plan with no text and only like 300 minutes of talk with 20% work discount is $67. What are you paying? And how is it lower than $50?

I used Project Fi for 2 months while it was cheap I didn't like that I had to restrict myself on my data to get to that goal. I ported to T-Mobile mid November for just $40 on my families plan for unlimited. Funny thing is even though Fi used Tmobile towers the call quality is so much better since I switched to tmobile.

I have to move to St. George, Utah. I'm currently using Cricket and I've Googled mostly bad things about AT&T's coverage in the city. Would Fi be better if it can switch between T-Mobile, Sprint, and USC towers?

I really would like to jump on this, but with my data usage I would end up paying an arm and a leg. I stream movies and shows on my phone while working, so until data becomes cheaper I'm stuck.

Mine is roughly the same like 73 but it's $10 per gig with his plan so that adds 60 if you use the data. Obviously if you only use 2 or whatever like him, it's fine but if you used the data in our plans it would be more than you and I pay. Which I usually use at least 4 and a half.
