We've heard tell of Spectator Mode—a new Xbox 360™ feature available to developers, whereby you can step into a friend or competitor's match/game, and view the proceedings as a non-competing participant. However, Gotham TV doesn't just utilize the feature; it grips it and molds it into a gold standard for developers to aspire to. Project Gotham Racing® 3 doesn't tell you what the world is, it shows you. Whether sitting in the stands, toggling between different cars, or even sitting shotgun in your friend's ride, you'll have access to the most intimate look at the active (and archived) proceedings. Among the many features that flesh out the Gotham TV experience, there are the:

Heroes Channel: Watch the best of the best prove themselves.
Friends Channel: Root on your friends and check their progress.
News Ticker: Catch up on the latest news and important updates just for you.
Today's Highlights: Dig into best of the PGR3 day.
Hall of Fame: The best of all time.
Saved Replays: Your own personal archives.

Heroes Channel—Don't Imagine, Watch!
Within every game there exists an elite few that dominate its ranks. With righteous skill and unflagging determination, these outstanding gamers represent the best of the best. While Leaderboards have given us glimpses of gamer heroics in games gone by, Project Gotham Racing 3 lets you experience that driving perfection, not just bear witness to the stats after-the-fact. Click on over to the Heroes channel to see the best drivers ply their trade in real time. What's more, if you boast skills enough to be classified a PGR3 Hero, you'll be the one your fellow gamers flock to see.

Friends Channel—Learning, Boasting, and the Right to Talk Trash
Got a few buddies that play PGR3? You'll have the same access to their races as you do to the Heroes in the Heroes Channel. Log in and see a buddy in the middle of some action? Pop on in and see how they're doing. You can even climb in the car with them to see just how they drive. Beyond mere entertainment value, this Gotham TV Channel can be used as an incredible teaching device as well. Need advice on a track or just want to see what your buddy does different to get the most out of a particular car? Use the Friends Channel to get real-time useful answers to these questions and more.

News of the Day
Much like you might see on a news channel or sports network, the news-ticker provided updated info on general news, sports scores, and information specific to you (e.g. the outcome of a match for someone on your Friends List). It's a great way to keep connected to the real world and the Xbox Live® community simultaneously.

Highlights—Like Any Other Sport
Just like any real-world sport, the dynamic ever changing world of Project Gotham 3 is rife with highlights from the day's events. Curious what records have been broken? It's here that you'll have instant access to the most amazing events of the day. Just wait till your exploits are immortalized in the Highlights channel!

Hall of Fame—All Time Greats
Of course, truly classic races may stand the test of time and you won't want to worry about having to catch them on the day of their creation. With that in mind, Bizarre Creations has gone so far as to create a dynamic Hall of Fame, where you can be witness to the unequivocal greatest moments in PGR3 history.

Your Archives
It's not all about your friends and competitors though. Gotham TV gives you your due in the form of Saved Replays and Saved Photos, so if you're feeling particularly content after a well run race, just save the replay, or if you're rather fond of a recent purchase, you can take a few glamour shots and save them for future observance. Both photos and replays are viewable through Gotham TV, so you can catch a bit of your greatest achievements whenever the desire grabs you.

Gotham TV offers a set of features never before realized in a videogame. We can only hope that other developers will follow suit, but in the mean time, with Gotham TV, PGR3 offers us an ever constantly evolving world of racing to enjoy and participate in.

By "climbing into the car" with a friend, I wonder if they mean you'll actually get the POV of sitting in the passengers seat, not just seeing the first-person viewpoint of the other player. Including the ability to look around freely while there. Now that, would truly be awesome as well as surreal. Especially with voice chat going at the same time.

What would be even cooler would be if you actually see another character model as you are playing, next to you in the other seat while in cockpit mode when a friend is there.

This is why Xbox Live will continue to ownz0rz the competition in the online arena.

RARE needs to show off their goods now.

They have something very similar in place for PD0.

I expect EA to have something ready with Madden 07 360.

I may buy PGR3 based on the Xbox Live featureset alone.

I want Gotham Tivo.

I don't want to only be able to watch a friend race while he's doing it. I want to set it to record a replay anytime my friends play, and always have the latest one available for me to watch.

That would be nice, maybe in PGR4? I believe all online replays are saveable, I hope they're tradeable too.

[pennypinch] Does anyone know if you can just watch replays on Live Silver or do you have to have Gold to use any of the GTV features? [/pennypinch]

I think Live silver is enough for spectating, but I'm not 100% sure.

It would suck to be one of the PGR3 heroes. Imagine the pressure. Everytime you log on to play with a friend some asshole is going to be watching you.. and what happens if you have a really bad time? Every yahoo will think they can take you down.

Thank God I suck.

yup.

has it been confirmed whether or not you can share pictures and replays over live in pgr3?

I hope I can jump into the passenger seat of random people's cars and whisper softly into their ears as they drive.
