My name is Tim and I have a regular 5-port Linksys.

That works fine with my PS2, PC and Xbox - but now that I've moved I no longer have my PC in the same room as the consoles (and cable connection). So I need to get a wireless solution for a PC. I'd *prefer* to purchase a router that I could still plug the consoles directly into, while offering wireless support for the PC in another room, but I don't know if that's possible.

Am I looking at any sort of speed drop using a wireless card for my PC internet? Also, is 802.11G really that much better than the B or A protocols? Can I ensure that there won't be any interference on the 2.4ghz channel with other electronic devices in the house?

Any help and/or insight you folks can offer would be appreciated...

I'm fairly sure my apartment runs off a linksys that looks very similar to that, only difference is it has wireless as well. We also have little to no issues with it.
That's all the help I can give.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
any wireless router I've encountered has wired ports as well.

I think b will not negatively affect your internet speed since the transfer rate is still likelly higher than what your overall internet connection is.

If you live in a condo/apartment environment then definitely get G, as the signal will be more stable and less susceptible to interference, which can come from cordless/cellphones, microwaves, etc.

I just hooked wireless up in the fashion you described.

I used the Linksys wireless router, it has plenty of wired jacks on the back.
Downstairs I used a Linksys Wireless Bridge and a 4-port switch to cable into my PS2, Xbox, GameCube (like I'll ever use it) and Tivo.

So far, no problems.

I did have to do some light port forwarding on the router to get Xbox live to work, though.

Does Linksys include the wireless card for the PC as well, or do I have to purchase that separately? Their website isn't very helpful.

news flash arcadestickmonk, none of the others are any better than linksys.

Bish:

As Levious says .11g is the way to go, less interference and even if you have a relatively weak signal you should still be able to max out your internet connection no problem, though do beware, even G doesnt really travel that far when you take walls and pipes into consideration (bathrooms are like impentrable walls for wireless signals) so beware where you place your router and what is inbetween it and your PC.

Connecting your consoles wont be a problem, same as with the wired router. Not sure if you can set up the router initially through a wireless link, im pretty sure you can though.

p.s. Save your invoices.
