Gran Turismo Sport Beta Thread

Sorry to bust people's bubble but...the sounds are still crap imo. I don't really understand all the praises GTS gets about its sounds.

Still the same poor synthetic engine noises....this time just backed by more wind sounds and admission sounds... but the engine sounds ? Still shitty to my ears.

In the Ferrari 458 GT3 video, you almost can't hear the mechanical noises of the engine... sounds more like an RC car than a racing monster.

And even compared to the competition, GTS sounds are still weak...

I can't believe we still don't have sounds that are just top of the class..or at least among the best.

Why PD still can't do better than that...and still get a pass?

I think they sound fine and on par with some racers out today.

For the sound reactions, it's interesting when they switch over to in-car at 2:05. The mixing comes across a *lot* better in AC, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were technically some of the same base sounds. I don't have a real-world reference point for comparison, but in the "holywood" sense, AC sounds better. There's something of an narrow echo to the GTS high-end whines, and I don't know if that's realistic or not.

I wouldn't have expected the visuals in GTS to come out looking so rough compared to AC, but it's pretty stark. They need a better solution than the cardboard-cutout trees for the final game. They so obviously "follow" you on some of those passes.

Woot woo. My racing wheel stand came in. So sick of shaking my desk about when I race. I haven't had a proper setup in years. I went with the GT Omega wheel stand. Built like a fucking tank. I look forward to testing it tonight. What is nice is I have the option to add an accessory to attach a seat down the road if I want.

How much did you end up paying? I've been window shopping (I use an IKEA desk that sits at the right level and a non-sliding computer chair for mine) because I want an upgrade, but I'm price sensitive.

It was 149.95$ (US) total. Shipping was free and fast. I shopped around a bit and this stand seemed to tick all the boxes of stability, being able to quickly fold down for storage, build quality and price. It also came with the free shifter accessory so I have two different options to mount my shifter which is nice. It is also pre drilled for Thursmaster, Logitech and Fanatec wheels with mounting hardware included. Based on my initial impressions I don't see any points of failure and hopefully it lasts me a long time. It is heavy gauge metal with holes in it, not a lot to go wrong. I'll give some impressions tonight.

Hmm I have a G29 and looking for a proper unit, one for a small room. Does it fold up with the wheel still mounted or you have to take everything off? I'm using an old table and I named it the rattler... If I can pick up the omega stand in the UK, might solve issues... Plus using pedals right now causes muscle strain problems due to placement on floor.

You can fold it down with everything attached. It will just have a slightly higher clearances, like if you are trying to slide it under a bed or something for storage. I will take pictures tonight with it setup and folded down. It has rubber feet included as well to help grip on wooden or tile floors.

Put some darn base in there (haha...even though those cars aren't all base).

Here's my personal Mustang sound wise. It's a convertible so there's lots of wind noise. Also, sorry about the "ticking sound". It's not as bad in the "red light" shot so skip about halfway or wait a few seconds. I've switched SD cards since then and it doesn't happen anymore. I've not uploaded any new video though as I just have the camera for "insurance reasons", lol.

I'm not really "getting on it", but I love the "sound and feel" of cars in general.

Nice, I'm getting together a nice full setup too. Last one was on 360/PC, but my racing seat has been put up in storage for a good 3-4 years :(.

Here's another comparison

Can't say I find that more distracting than the cross-plane 2D billboards in AC where you can see the huge seams intersecting with the other flat cutout.

In GTS Nurb they actually have a bunch of 3D stumps and multiple 2d billboards making up the leaves instead of one huge flat cutout though, dunno why they couldn't have done the same for Brands Hatch.

When Simbin was nothing but a small mod team, they had better sounds than GT has now. That was 15 years ago. The sounds are an improvement by GT standards but they are still sub standard. No matter what car you are driving. Slap on the custom transmission and it makes the exact same sound in every car. Their sound mixing is also atrocious. Throw in on top of that how much worse it sounds when racing online and you have a pretty shitty audio experience across the board. I have come to accept that they will never ever get sounds right. At this point I will settle for GTS to be a slightly improved GT6 port with proper online features. PD is so locked into their way of doing things.

Was at Best Buy earlier and asked the gaming associate about GTS. He told me he expects the game to launch in a month or two because they recently received the game promotions and it's sitting in the back of the store.

Would like to know if anyone who works at BB that can confirm if the promotional materials are in or not.

Two things. 1) Best Buy also recently got Spider-Man pre-order materials. Maybe Best Buy knows something we don't?

2) I was in GameStop the other day (yes, I know.. GameStop.. bleh), and behind the counter wall display were the display boxes for GT Sport. That's usually the spot for titles they want you to pre-order because they are coming out soon-ish.

So those interested in a wheel stand, the GT Omega seems pretty solid so far. Did some races in GTS and Dirty Rally. Nothing to complain about. The only thing of note is with the shifter plate that attaches to the wheel plate, it does make it not fold down as small. I might switch to the other style mount that came with it so I can store it smaller. Sorry for the shitty pics, but I forgot to take pics when it was day light.

The ChronusMax has been working well too. Occasionally there is this minor FFB blip, maybe once evert 10 minutes, but it doesn't effect the handling of the car. I think that might be the time out rate for the controller authentication that constantly has to refresh to make it seem like you have a legit controller plugged in.

Yeah, R3E is universes ahead of GT. It'll be a long time before anything comes close to that game.
I always bring this up, but only because it still shits me: the R3E audio guy actually applied for one of the audio jobs at Polyphony Digital (this was after R3E was released).

He didn't get it.

I mean, he had produced the best car audio ever seen in a racing game in R3E, but why would PD hire him to do car audio when they could hire a former music producer with no real relevant experience to do car engine audio? That actually happened BTW.

Kaz needed to open the war chest and headhunt all of the best audio people for PD. But the best guy in the business applied and they turned him down. FFS!

Thanks for the impressions. This is the exact stand I plan on buying this fall to compliment a new wheel. Just gotta decide if I'm buying a wheel for Xbox or Playstation.

The different sounds of crackling furniture inside the cars (and different depending on whether it's a race car or not) when driving on the vibrator is fantastic oO

Kaz just doesn't give two fucks about audio. That's the only reasonable conclusion to draw in the face of overwhelming evidence.

His autopsy report will probably reveal the presence of two rubber powerballs that he stuffed into his ear canals as a small child.

What about the game engine?, is this a legacy engine from previous iterations?, or a complete new engine?, maybe the issue is down to the engine they (have?) to use.

It seems strange that after so many versions of the game it stil suffers from the same synthetic engine sounds, albeit better than previous games, it still pales into comparison against more contemporary games.

For the people in the beta that have played Assetto Corsa, can you draw a comparison?

Right now i love the ffb, the tyre and the aero simulation on AC, wanted to know if GT is still doing its own things or is moving from its driving model into a more organic simulation.

I need to get my g25 usable on a ps4. What are the best options - CrossHair and ChronusMax?

I'd be shocked if it's using a new game engine since the ps2 era.

I don't think it's a legacy issue, it's just GT's ever-present problem of focusing on gimmicks instead of feedback.

Even a shitty sound engine can put out decent sound if you give it good samples. It's not so much their engine as the recordings they have it seems.

The cheapest option and still with full force feedback is the GIMX solution, if you don't mind having to run the software through a PC laptop while playing.

It's €30 to get a pre-made adapter, that is all you need: https://blog.gimx.fr/product/gimx-adapter/

You can make it cheaper yourself too with the right parts.

The GIMX software fully emulates the G29 and it gets around the 10 minutes timeout issue that gutterboy mentioned he's having with the ChronusMax by having a DS4 plugged into your PC to fool the PS4 controller authentication.

I looked at this to reuse my GT:DF but decided to go with what seemed a better build quality and unit in the G29

Judging by this thread, I honestly don't get why GTS even exist in this form lol...seems much easier to satisfy the more casual player with lots of cars and easy campaign progression. Some of the things you guys complain about I never even heard of before entering the thread lol.

Anyway, I hope it does well and gets expanded on, just don't get why the tradional circuit stuff was removed when all it is single player races. Like Driveclub though I'm guessing it will be updated with cars/content frequently.

I just want to drive around in a Super Civic and Subaru Impreza personally.

I wish they'd let you check the replays for the top 10 leaders, because i'd love to know how the hell someone got Tokyo Expressway down to a 1:09.
