Grand Theft Auto:LCS - IGN review

Wario64

works for Gamestop (lol)

9.0 Presentation
Awesome production values. Great art, voice work, graphics, load times.
9.0 Graphics
It's GTA III on a handheld, only now with more graphical effects. Pretty snazzy.
9.5 Sound
Incredible tunes, voice talent and sound effects.
8.5 Gameplay
Definitely feels less refined than console versions, but the experience is engaging and satisfying nonetheless.
9.5 Lasting Appeal
Tons of extras, hidden bonuses and seven very fun multiplayer modes.
9.0 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

While rough around the edges, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories offers a deep, console-like GTA experience. There's so much to see and do that finishing the main story portion leaves around 60% of the game to experience. Just driving around the city and taking in the sights packs about as much fun as most full-fledged games. But throw in seven multiplayer modes, a well-acted story and a city filled with side quests and hidden extras and you've got something special.

Best news from this review -
Multiplayer drained the PSP's battery life far quicker than when playing solo, but there was plenty of juice for more than three hours of play time.

Looks like over 4 hours in single player is true.

Excellent.

I just finished reading the IGN review and it is...strange.

Seems like the reviewer is blathering for 5 pages without ever getting to a point. Starts talking about missions and then complaining about how it is hard to drive your vehicle in first person mode when it is on fire wtf???? Doesn't seem like the reviewer has played a GTA game before. Look at this paragraph:

Of course, this isn't to say that transportation in LCS is beyond reproach. For starters, there's simply too much travel in story missions for those pressed for time. Sure, there's plenty to do when all you have is five minutes, but traveling across three islands (multiple times during some missions) is excessive. Add this to the fact you can't save the game wherever you want (only at the game's three safe houses) and things become very unfriendly. More importantly though, these travel intensive missions become wildly time consuming. Every mission in LCS takes only five to ten minutes of action to complete, but then there's the 5 minutes of travel and two minutes of load times to consider. Plus, some of the missions can be tough, so you'll try each several times. Normally, this wouldn't be a bad thing, but in this case it sucks having to drive from one part of the city to another just to receive your objective, then driving to another part of the island (or another island) to complete the job.

You would think by now he would have figured out sleep mode???

Kinda sounds like this reviewer hasn't played a GTA game before. Everyone should be prepared to do a lot of driving to do anything. Whether it is just saving the game or doing a mission. That's why they design a whole city. Geesh.

Almost makes me want to buy a PSP. Almost.

Well, I think its because its a portable system that its getting reactions like that. Remember, portable is a very different beast from console. For portable systems, its more about instant access to the game, short burst of playability, and so on. So, for missions that take a long time to complete, it would be something to rag on. But he does state that most of the missions are 5-10 minutes long, so it does not sound all bad.

What's so strange?

All of IGN's reviews are like that. They really don't make sense when they have to hit a certain amount of pages because they just fill it with nonsense and most of the time the review number is totally different then what you'd expect after reading the written part of the review.

DAMNIT! Too many good reviews for this game. I was kinda hatin' on GTA PSP so I wouldn't have a reason to get a PSP...but now.....my credit card.......damn, R*, damn.

I think I may see myself spending over 2Gs on videogames once the dust settles in January.

And the hits keep coming.
Are you talking specifically about psp? I have not payed attention to the latest PSP releases. This is not meant as a troll, but, what other hits? Burnout?
