As someone basically unfamiliar with Grandia, I really like the look of these screenshots. Not that I'll have time with DQVIII etc. coming out, but it still looks awesome. :)

What a pleasant surprise this game is turning out to be

So beautiful. My PS2 will get a lot of play this Winter with both this and KH2 looking so stellar.

You mean the Japanese version (of G3) or did they announced a US date for this already?

The graphics are leagues better than GII, but there is something I don't like... and I think it's the urine-like taste in my mouth after Grandia Xtreme.

I like that the graphics are nowhere near top notch

but I dont care, it's soooooo pretty ^_^

Dare I say that my PS2 will live longer than I had hoped? more surprises like this and my initiative to hold off until Q4 2K6 for a next gen console could well be easely accomplished :)

Grandia rules hooray!

With this and FF12 and DQ8, the PS2 will be getting a lot of attention in the future...

Can't wait! Looks like the battle system returns mostly untouched.

Grandia Xtreme is the best of the series. Grandia 1 comes close, but I felt Xtreme's dungeons and customization put it over the top.

I'm happy about the character models...there's something about them that I like...maybe because they're detailed and seem to be able to show a lot of expressions.

I used to not like Grandia Xtreme that much, but then I was able to go back to previous dungeons and they had all new enemies and powerups and bosses. After that I could do naught but beat the game.

Wonder how they can top GX's battle system?

I really like that shot. It seems like they're going to stylize the battle with a bit more flash.

This game is going to be awesome, well I hope it will.

It's probably because their bodies are similar to the Star Ocean 3 people and the way they're modeled (minus the whole "our faces are missing half our jawbone" thing)

It will take a LONG time to get here :(

FF12, Radiata Stories, DQ8. Grandia III ohh man so much rpg goodness!

Plus Atelier Iris 1 (possibly 2), Shadow Hearts 3, DDS2, Makai Kingdom, PSU, Tales of Legendia ect. It's taken the PS2 sometime but it's RPG lineup from here on out is extremely solid.

Yep. Grandia 3 models look like SO3 if the art was actually good.

Is it just me, or has there been a drouhgt of traditional RPG's for a while (I believe Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga are more strategy oriented right?). And now there are finally a few high profile games coming out.

First let me say that I'm very much looking forward to this, and it looks awesome.

But...

Why did they move the battle timer thing to the top corner and make it a circle? It worked SO WELL in the lower right corner like in Grandia 2. All i see here is that the character icons look too big (inside circles) and the whole thing looks way too cluttered and hard to read compared to Grandia 2's.

They did the circle thing with Grandia Xtreme, albeit it was on the bottom right corner.

I like the circle interface much better than Grandia 1&2's bog-standard ones.

Hmmm. I'm really looking forward to this.

The Grandia II was one of the only RPGs where I've voluntarily sought out as many battles as possible, simply because the engine was so fun.

Do my eyes fool me or do that last batch of screens showcase a first for the grandia games... an actual move around to wherever you want to go world map!

It could possibly just be fly around style world map but that's definetly a step up from "pick a spot on the map and go there" I was seriously worried by the end of the PSone that all future RPG's would have no world maps anymore and grew moreconcerned that battle systems would all go down the terrible road of being realtime like KOTOR, the Tales games and star ocean, kotor is the only one that sort of pulls it off the other 2 are really bad. I wouldn't mind seeing a breath of fire 5 battle system put to use in a normal RPG instead of this god awful experimental shit.

Famitsu did confirm that you could control your aircraft in the overworld. It seems like it'll be more like SoA where you're never searching on foot in the overworld but always in an aircraft.
