It's not just you. It reminds me of Jak too. Which is a plus IMO.
 
Odd that even with FFXII on the horizon (god only knows when we'll see it stateside but it shoud be in under a year lol) i'm a ton more hyped about this game, Star Ocean 3, and Tales of Legendia. From the way these games are going through dev in Japan it looks like we're going to get 5 or 6 AAA list RPGs between i'd say May-Sept. Dammit, typing that brings me back to the reality that it's a full year till this RPG nirvana starts.
 
The Grandia II was one of the only RPGs where I've voluntarily sought out as many battles as possible, simply because the engine was so fun.

Yep, makes many other battle engines seem like a chore in comparison. Nothing more satisfying than taking on 7-8 fast enemies and denying them ALL a chance to even act, or touch you for that matter if you do it right. I gave Roan a pair of warp shoes and high dex/mov items and he became a goddamn ninja of saccharine sweet cuteness.
 
I'm really liking what I see of this game.

Hopefully they'll be able to get some good voice acting for it too. I just hope that Cam Clarke doesn't make another whiny "Ryudo" appearence.
 
Looks awesome, but the main character looks so scrawny. Especially in that pic of him holding the sword, and I'm not too thrilled about his taste in fashion either.
 
I definately prefer his fashion senses to what I've seen out of RPG's lately, specifically the metrosexuals in FF (Tidus and Van)

Also, even after Grandia II, this just doesn't "look" like Grandia to me. Grandia will forever be:

I wish they'd go back with that artist. Not that I'm not anticipating Grandia III or anything, heh.
 
I'm finally going to buy a new PS2 just for this game! I don't know why, but this game shows a ton of charm.
 
I never played any of the pervious titles in the series. Can someone tell me briefly what's awesome about this game? How is the combat? What other game could you compare it to? thanks.

Do yourself a favor and get yourself the near-completed deJap translated patch for the SNES ROM of Star Ocean.

It's probably one of the best RPG's out there, and still holds a lot gaming value to this day.
 
Alternately, you could just pick up Grandia (works with a PS2) and Grandia II (DC, PC, or PS2 versions.) I believe the PC and PS2 versions got some new cutscenes, but they're ports of the DC game, and not very good ones. For the record, I've got the PS2 one only, and am content with it, but I thought I'd give you the heads up. It's got some nasty graphical glitches and framerate issues. Nothing remotely game-breaking, but nothing you should have to deal with if you don't have to.
 
Very good looking game.
This kind of art and they way they pull it off on current gen hardware is just great.
These devs will make full use of next gen, I hope.

Fixed. Grandia 3 is looking nice, though.
 
This is the first rpg this gen that I am truly excited about and gave me the feeling that I got anticipating games like FF7 and Xenogears.

I really like the main hero. The human main girl is fine, and the elf girl and horned adult guy are borderline ok-ish; but the other two playable characters look really lame IMO; especially the tarot card girl. OTOH the villians look like hardcore badass people you don't want to mess with.

Slightly anticipating the game, but from the scans and 1 trailer out it doesn't grab me like SH3/KH2/FFXII/ToL.

I'm of the opposite opinion-I like gypsy girl ('s breasts,) but all of the other characters look like they stepped out your run of the mill SNES RPG. Maybe they'll show some more characters to change my opinion...

Good women == beautiful (often ethereal) / cute
Evil women == sexy / slutty (or alternately, ugly / fat)

I blame psychology.

wow.

it looks like star ocean game though... or am i the only one that thinks so? it does not have that grandia look (to me at least).
