Playing around with ideas for a mate. He's getting into some music stuff, so he needs an image. Never really had a go at proper design so it's all so very new...
His name is Vincent. If you didn't get it.
What font is that?

This has been bothering me for sometime, can anybody match this closer then I can?
I've had this Lions phone wallpaper I found on google images (didn't make it) for sometime now and like it, but couldn't find one for the Red Wings one I liked. So I'm trying to replicate it.
Nice to see this thread a bit active. My friend (same one I did that P* thing for) wants something for his band, 'Luminary'. I'm doing it for free, and I kinda don't have to time or effort to come up with something.
I'd like some help, he wants some kind of crazy and progressive emblem or logo to represent
this type of music. Furthermore, he wants it layered on top of this image.
So the style has to be rock/progressive and look decent on top of that double helix fractal art. I've come up with a few things but tbh, i'm stumped and not liking what i've come up with.
I'd like some help, just some ideas/concepts to work off of.
[edit] Oh and actually, he's apparently gonna give me an iTunes gift card for my efforts (lol), so if someone helps with this I could gift them something from iTunes (songs/videos/apps) in the 5-10 bucks range.
Thanks in advanced, i'd like to just tell him no, but he's an old friend and a good guy.

Can anybody top it? Anybody have any idea how to make that light burst like thing?
Here are some pictures that might help:

Darken up the edges of the image(grab a black brush with a soft edge), and add a center gradient mask to the burst you're using.

That would be Governor. What font is that?
It's a dude :lolWhy'd you crop the girls face off? Seems weird.
Thanks for the helpThink you're better off using more abstract shapes and playing up the luminary name or something, like this:
Colors selected from that image by the way, since he seems into the palette there.

Not set on that typeface at all but something similar I think would be good.

question...I made a design in Illustrator...but when I put it in Indesign it comes out weird. Anyone know why?
Are you placing it or copy/pasting it?
No no, I can't take credit for that. See my OP (devo quoted it) for the background image used, by a DeviantART user. Sorry.Really great design on that EP cover Sentry. What brushes did you use?
Is that an illustrator filter/texture on the blue part of the logo? Indesign tends to choke on stuff like that , youre probably better exporting the background to photoshop, resave it as a print res CMYK PSD and import back into Indesign. If its not, then I have no idea! sorry. Are you placing it or copy/pasting it?
Placing it...
Just re-upped my design site/blog - www.mrgroff.com
Would love some feedback if you guys are willing.
Love the home page. The about/blog pages I can't read. Body/header type is much too light. Aww crap dp, oh well.
Weird. Never had that issue.
Placing it...
I think Indesign has some layout preview that it defaults to, make sure you have the print preview selected and it should fix it.
i was working on something similar at work today but didn't have a chance to get it anywhere (spacey abstracted shapes, etc).Think you're better off using more abstract shapes and playing up the luminary name or something, like this:

one of my biggest challenges is finding a style. i find myself constantly bouncing around different aesthetic spaces because they strike my fancy at the time. One of the fears that I still have to conquer is try to come up with new styles. I don't want to be doing the exact same thing all the time.
Not bad. There's something about it i don't like though and not sure if it's the drop shadow.
Same here!I'm in IT but I love doing graphic work even I'm not really good at it.
I have to scroll vertically on a 1080p monitor. C'mon, man.
Are there any infographic designers on Gaf? Got a few burning questions....
Did you make this with photoshop?oh right, vertically - I thought I read horizontally.
Being above or below the fold isn't really as important as it once was nowadays. You get the most important content above it, and if you so care - scroll to read the rest.
Most people use gimp or paint.net if they want something free but in your class you will most likely be using Photoshop. You can download the free trial of photoshop and start experimenting. This guy makes really good photoshop turotialsI'm taking Graphic Design course next semester and I figure I get a head start on things. What are some programs and tutorials I can start learning the basics from?
