Saw it this weekend. I really liked it. I´m usually not a fan of 3D but this was one of those movies where it actually added something. Great acting too.
Saw this about a month ago at a normal cinema in 2D and really liked it.
Saw it again at IMAX in 3D at Melbourne (the world’s 3rd biggest screen) and had perfect seats and I absolutely loved it even more than the first time I saw it. The 3D was the best I’ve ever seen in a movie and it made it even better, and that’s coming from someone who generally thinks 3D is terrible. The image never blurred due to fast motions and the level of depth was really great. The movie was practically made to be seen in 3D. Dat Marvin the Martian shot! So good! Everyone absolutely needs to see this in 3D if they have the choice.
Yeah, this movie made me a 3D believer again. Avatar has finally been surpassed.
You know, thinking about it now, this is the film that should have been what "Avatar" was inasmuch as it is a showcase for 3d and doesn't have a turd of a story dragging it down and making it infinitely forgettable.
It didn't make me hate myself and James Cameron like Avatar did though. What? The story and acting of gravity was pure michael bay cheese. The movie was just eye candy with a completely hollow, cliched and creatively dead innards.
But I guess people forgive anything for cool sfx.
It didn't make me hate myself and James Cameron like Avatar did though.
They knew that they were just making a film porn movie and kept the story as simple as they could. You can't say the movie copied Dances with Wolves or is racist or sexist or any of the other weird baggage that Avatar got attached with because Cameron thought he could still write science fiction stories.
Del Toro got special thanks in the credits.I just realized that two of the Three Cabelleros (Inarratu, Cuaron, Del Toro) released movies in the same year again. Biutiful released last year, I think, but these guys released Babel, Children of Men and Pan's Labyrinth so close to eachother, and they all collaborated on eachothers films too. Did Del Toro help on Gravity at all?
Neil deGrasse Tyson devoted an entire episode of his show to the movie, probably on the heels of his twitter comments. With special guest star Mike Massimino to provide astronaut commentary:

There should be a soundcloud embed on the page. I grabbed it from the iTunes feed. What an incredible film. I can't stop thinking about it.
Is it up yet? There is no link to play/download.
Zzzz this movie had nothing besides visuals. Boring and flat characters which I really couldn't care about, story line was predictable. 4/10
Like the posters above. This was so over hyped. Moon was by far and i mean way by far better movie then this. This had great visual effects i guess but i do not care for those.
Watched in Imax 3d by the way and again i can say that I really do not get 3D at all. very few moments or movie gave me 3d effects. even avatar did not do it for me so i guess i am 3d less.
Ender's Game is such an original story.Just in case you guys were wondering, Orson Scott Card decided to give his non-review of Gravity:
Another example of Card's exquisite taste in film and relevant finger on the cultural pulse.
The worst thing about this film is that I don't have an IMAX screen in my living room.
If only. I was offended by the complete lack of effort in the writing. The characters were just as unbelievable as the things happening in the movie. The symbolism especially made me shake my head in disbelief. They might as well have used a narrator describing the hammy compositions so even your dog would not miss them.
Also the amoumt of cuts from loud noise to silence went old after the tenth consecutive time...
I could kiss my 3D projector (bonus from work). I can't wait for this movie to come home.
Do you still love Prometheus?
Anyway. Gravity. Stunning, stunning film. I can't imagine being more impressed walking out of a cinema screen than I was on Friday afternoon this year.
I'll be interested to see how that douchebag Kermode complains about 3D this time.
I notice that he never did a review of Hugo.
God damn!Crosses $500 million today, the highest grossing film in both Sandra Bullock and George Clooney's careers! Woot.
That's fantastic!Crosses $500 million today, the highest grossing film in both Sandra Bullock and George Clooney's careers! Woot.
I hope that the film will sweep the Oscars.
Chances are slim for it getting any noms outside of sound design and visual effects. I'm holding out on cinematography but that's wishful thinking.
