Greatest "flying level" music?

The BEST is anything NiGHTS but an honorable mention goes to the flying stage in The Simpson's: Bart's Nightmare - I think you were being like Radioactive Man.

I don't quite know what to do. See you're right about NiGHTS ... but you're wrong about The Simpsons ... plus your username confuses me.

Yeah, when that 5th colossus took off...amazing. I also like the Final Fantasy V theme when you fly with the dragon

Heh, neat topic. Id have to say any piece from Sky Odyssey, hands down. Its an amazingly evocative soundtrack for such a humble little flight sim, but it captures it beautifully. Especially the flight map tracks with its ethereal choir in the background. Same composer who did Shadow of the Colossus fwiw. The game is worth digging up just for the music.

Growing Wings from the final stage in NiGHTS. When the kids jump, fall, and then fly as the music kicks up...perfect gaming moment right there.

for some reason i thought of the main theme from chrono trigger. which isn't flying level music at all. but sounds like it should be.

I have a soft spot for the music that plays when Mario gets the Wing cap in Mario 64 (the original). Yes it's just a remix of the Invincible star song, but I'll be damned if it does fit the situation perfectly.

I'm surprised it took 'til the 45th post to mention this track. It was the tune running through my head when I saw the topic. Of course, I used to fly around in that game for hours and hours with no reason in particular. Sliding around on a Koopa shell was pretty nifty, too.

This was the first thing I thought of too, something about that music fit perfectly with flying through the air.

Sonic 2 / Airship sequence (Wow)
NiGHTS / Soft Museum & Splash Garden remix (when you're getting an A = AMAZING)

If the Shevat music from Xenogears somehow qualifies by some odd technicality.. then it deserves a place next to these three.

That's the first thing that came to mind for me too. It was a cool moment when you get dropped into that environment after just looking up... all of a sudden you're in the middle of nowhere with new powers and that music playing. A memorable moment for sure.

I don't know if this counts as flying music, but Wren's transformation in Phantasy Star 3 totally caught me by surprise. I was stuck in the game because I didn't understand enough Japanese back then to properly figure out what to do next on my import copy, and I was just glumly wandering around trying to find out what to do next. Suddenly I walk near a river and the game suddenly snaps into this weird cut scene with overdriven Genesis butt-rock music blaring. Totally startled me.

I'd say Corneria from Starfox snes.

thread over?

I've never understood Nintendo's decision to can the wonderful theme from the SNES version for the lame as one introduced in 64. The music actually ruined the game for me.
