Grimes is like the perfect working music. You cant sing along and the beats hard to follow so you can never be distracted from you work.

She's playing here October 9. I'm debating it but I think I'd be wildly out of place with the crowd I imagine her to draw.

"Nightmusic" really should have been in the Drive soundtrack, especially that synth solo.

Probably my most played album this year along with Money Store.

Just found out about her and I really liked what I heard so far.
I'd even go as far as to say that she might very well be the second coming of Christ and I'm ready to accept her as my lord and savior :O

Praised be Grimes

/this bump is dedicated to lush

Bumping because thank you lush.

The entire tail end of this year has been grimesapalooza in my home and car.
Same here. Made its way to the number 4 spot on my top 10. Such a great album. Also spend way too much time watching Grimes interviews. Creepy as it may sound. Claire Boucher is incredibly mesmerizing.

yaaassssss. Stan ha.

*ahem* Anyways.

P4k said Oblivion was song of the year, and I can't deny it, because I like the sound and lyrics of Oblivion a lot.

But damn, that synthy bass melody of Genesis is so so so good, that it makes me like it more than Oblivion.

Genesis TOTY 2012 believe

edit: but Purity Ring's Shrines > Visions

Crazy!

how to make music for (almost) free (u should prob buy a mic/ interface and u might appreciate some instruments)

and i guess you’ll need a computer… so that might be expensive. BUT if ur reading this you probably have one :)

so yeah, ppl always ask me to make a tumblr tutorial on how to make music, so here it is

first off, the best program (in my opinion) is ableton live. however, garageband is perfectly acceptable and i made visions on garageband. its kind of the same thing but simpler.

This is genius!

oh, also - In the upper left corner you will see a folder called audio effects. if you click on this you’ll see reverb, delay, chorus etc. You can just play with these to figure out what they do, thats prob the best way to learn.

so ya! thats how to record audio. Once you have the basics u can just start googling how to do things on ableton and teach urself.

if anything is unclear let me know and ill update. also if u want to know how to do particular things i can try to go into it but im not super expert at this stuff cuz i figure it out as i go along.

I dug Visions, but it was an album I was only able to listen to about half-a-dozen times before it wore out its welcome. Really impressed that she was able to produce such a strong work with such off-the-shelf tools, a mediocre audio program, and not much in the way of technical know-how.

I had never heard of Grimes til I saw her last October at the Index Festival in Dallas. I mostly went to see Cold War Kids, Portugal The Man, Atlas Genius, Surfer Blood, and The Eastern Sea. Her set; however, was the first one that I saw when I got there and despite some issues with the sound system, I really enjoyed her show. Also, her lisp is really cute.

She's a lot like Reznor. Her music is pretty simplistic, but where she excels at is layering.
