I dont as I'm too remote for delivery to come to me.

I would absolutely get it if I could. Time is the only currency of genuine value. The less of it I can spend in rhythmic drudgery and more on my kids and wife the better.
 
OP might want to call their city hall and check the census, because if literally every delivery worker in their zip code is a dude… something fucked is going on in that ecosystem.
 
OP you seem to miss the point. I think it is more an issue of "TIME MANAGEMENT". It is also the economic issue of "OPPORTUNITY COST".

My wife only has either groceries 1.) delivered 2.) The store shop for her and I pick them up on my way home from work.

WE STILL GO TO THE STORE OCCASIONALLY FOR ODDS AND ENDS. Fresh loaf of bread at Whole Foods or local bakery, for example.

But it eliminates the need to spend large amounts of time in a Walmart (ugh) or other Major Grocery chains! More small businesses get our money.

It also eliminates the wasteful spending on impulse items! We buy far less junk food!

For daily grocieres? No.
But if I host some sort of party/event then it's useful. Also much easier to reach the limit this way or else they don't even offer this service.

Turning this around, supermarkets now expect customers to work for the store, for free.
 
My wife does this a lot, but I find that the wait to get the groceries loaded is often longer than just going in to get the shit yourself. Plus I bet a big chunk of the grocery price increase is to have 8-10 folks collecting these orders, storing them in the refrigerated area they had built, and loading them into cars. Probably 20% of the store manpower doing this "free" service.
 
If I can have something delivered I probably will. Going to any store is at the top of my list of things I don't want to do if I can avoid it. I value my time so I'd rather spend it doing the things I actually enjoy doing, and shopping is not one of those things. If that means I can get some kid at the supermarket to gather the items I want and then doordash driver brings it to my house where I'm doing something that I want to be doing then I'm ok with that. I'll probably never know how many consoles my Target or Walmart has because I'm not going unless it's under extreme circumstances.

I enjoy it.

The aforementioned attractive employees help, but I also like getting inspiration for new recipes. If I had to do all of my grocery shopping from a computer screen, I'd probably be apt to get the same things over and over again, instead of trying new stuff.
 
Given different living situations and circumstances… and other complexities of life in general I'd say encapsulating the whole of someone by whether they order groceries online is a completely reasonable take. I don't do it personally, not to say I won't partake in the future if I'm in a pinch, but it got me thinking -- How prevalent is this? Do the lion's share of consumers utilize this method?

Cursory research mind you, I didn't dive too deep. I found the following though which I thought was interesting:

A 2022 survey conducted by the Eating and Health module demonstrated that approximately 87.2% of individuals aged 15 and older conducted grocery shopping both online and in person(Service, 2025). Of that 87.2%, 19.3% purchased groceries online in the last month and of that 19.3%, 44.7% purchased groceries online 3 – 4 times - which I would consider your "only online grocery shoppers".

Be interesting to see the demographic information tied to this.

Dont know about you but im a man,i go shopping weekly and i always buy my own groceries.(my wife cooks lol)
I rarely buy certain food items off amazon,like coconut water, mostly stuff i cant get anywhere else.
 
I've been on this earth for almost 60 years now, and I did my own grocery shopping for my entire life. Every goddamn Sunday morning, when there's the least number of braindead NPC drones to get in my way. A few months ago, it was shopping day, but I only needed a few things. I thought, "I don't wanna drag my ass all the way to the store just for half a bag of stuff. Fuck it, I'll do Amazon Fresh or whatever it's called, just this once." I ordered, they delivered, and I was still in my PJs and slippers. It was FUCKING AWESOME. Haven't set foot inside a grocery store since. So far the trade off in having to try a few new brands and occasionally getting a loaf of bread that doesn't have an expiration date in the far future has been worth it.
 
I think there's a nuanced middle ground here that OP seems to be missing, but I know he's reasonable enough to get it. I typically go and get them myself, but that's honestly just to save money, but sometimes I'll utilize the delivery if time is of the essence and something else has my attention, and it's worked pretty well the majority of the time, though I'd say they mess up roughly 5 percent of the orders, so I can see where OP is coming from when it comes to not trusting others with your groceries, (observe the bloated Beluga in the post earlier in this thread pepper-spraying someone's groceries), and it's absolutely valid. That being said, the whole angle of masculinity and lost skills thing, bah, that's utter nonsense. Strolling through a grocery store with a basket or a cart isn't reinforcing jack shit in terms of skills, and it can be a significant waste of time, (it generally takes me around 30 to 45 minutes in the store, 5 minutes to the one near me which is way overpriced or 25 minutes to the commissary to get cheaper groceries, so this is a significant chunk of your day gone, which is kinda lame), so I don't think skipping it and going for delivery is a big deal either.

I'm not being mean, it's just a fact that he's a pretentious ass almost all of the time, hell it's what got him banned when he got into it with the boss. About half of what he says is incredibly reasonable and decent though, so I honestly think he's mostly alright, he's just a prick. I like buying groceries. Doesn't make sense to me to work extra hours, only to spend that money on deliveries, but I'm sure it works out for some people. It seems most convenient for people who have difficulty bringing large quantities or heavy stuff back home.

This is the most unhinged take I've heard since my kid's babysitter told me she doesn't think Mount Rushmore is real.

I don't personally use grocery delivery but I have no problem with it. I did use it a few times when I had a newborn, sometimes it's just easier.
 
I agree that getting groceries delivered is stupid, but not for your retarded reason. It adds so much to your grocery costs to have someone deliver it that I would never do it.
 
We do a lot of pick up orders so what does that make me?

I will tell you, makes me a sane person that doesnt want to shoot someone for stopping right in front of me to check their phone that just dinged
 
Fresh produce and meat/fish - I'd rather see it and choose those myself... so I never order groceries delivered.
But I am also open on getting dried or canned goods on Amazon subscriptions - such as my coffee beans, and steel cut oats.
 
Even if I could get my food delivered, I'd probably still go to the supermarket. Mine makes a lot of fresh meals, and I like picking up a lunch or making one from their buffet while I'm out.

I get where you're coming from: you're relinquishing responsibility that used to be something that you can do yourself, but at least be consistent.
