GT 4 Mobile (PSP) - the "what happens when *real* screenshots are shown" thread

Just to point out something here - there's no such thing as stronger or weaker hw dithering - the 4x4 dither matrix is applied across the whole screen equally. Obviously, like with many other digital processing effects, they are only intended to work without blowing the pixels up ;)
But to answer your question, 16bit buffers free up more fast memory. If 32bit doesn't look much different in the end result for a particular game, it's a worthwhile tradeoff.

The interesting thing to me is, that if Sony decided on a 16bit color transreflective LCD instead of the 24 bit one that must be costing them an insane percentage of the cost of the machine right now, no one would have noticed gaming wise. :lol

To be fair - the specific screenshots from the movie you posted are screaming prerendered AA, MB etc, and also completely embarass the PS2 version of GT4 while we're at it ;)
Of course you could also pick other racer videos from the same E3, some which we are already seeing on PSP by now...

What? The pictures are just framegrabs of the video, which was basically the PS2 stage replay cut down to PSP (they didn't exactly say whether the demos were all running on hardware / emulation of target, or if they were all just concept videos that weren't exactly to be held up against the final.) You can see this same video, or a realtime variation of it, in a lot of PS2 clips of the game -- or, if you've got the import, the game itself.

NEVER FORGET --WRC-- (SONY)

This game looks fuc**** awesome!!

YES! AND IT HAS NO DITHERING AND A 4:3 ASPECT RATIO.

You can tell that the hud is squished, though. They've shown WRC running on a real PSP as well...

Noticed the hud too, but then again, the WRC logo seems to have regular proportions. Apologies for my negativity, but "simulated" screenshots irritate me to no end. Remember Ampedgate? Microsoft didn't get away easy with that. Granted, it was a degree more stupid.

I remember when Kellogs had a co-promotion with Nintendo in early 90s and they had hand drawn and animated screenshots and videos of SMB. The scaling effects were great and the sprites were super smooth!

Yeah, but that WRC logo isn't going to be sitting there during gameplay. It was added as a label for the shot...
