Konami got Hiroshi Ito, from Mazda's Chasis Dynamics Development Department, to check out Enthusia and get his take of the game. Hiroshi Ito on Enthusia

Here is his breif bio:

- 1956 - Born in Hiroshima, Japan
- Nov. 1983 ・Joined Mazda Motor Corporation. He has been in charge of evaluating performance of chassis dynamics, refinement and development.
- His hobby: Car racing. He has raced for more than 30 years mainly with TS1300, FJ1600 and F4. He has also participated in super endurance races of RX-7 for the last 3 years.

The video interview shows a little clip of Enthusia's 'Initial D' course and the great dynamic lighting from the headlamps. The full interview is translated below video.

I am getting one of those Konami wheels and slapping my own Momo wheel on there...too sweet.

Got have a pic:

Skid marks: Enthusia>>>GT4 ;)

GT4 Killer = IMPOSSIBLE

go to play the final JPN version of GT4 and you will know what I mean, except if Saudi Arabia has won the world cup, maybe this will come true !!

All these racing profesionals and experts in car physics put their credibility on the line for a crappy sim? I would rather believe this isnt true and those who didnt like it at E3 were not good enough to control a car in a game with realistic physics. I am hoping.

It wont be any "GT killer", but regardless it is 9 months after E3, and that build could have been up to a month old. You don't think any tweaking could be possiblle in 10 months?

Has there ever been a "killer" type game that actually killed the game it was supposed to kill?

It will propably be too realistic for it to be a GT killer. Just like Forza will be. Most people will not like these games.

Anyway, Enthusia sure looks great. Just as good as GT4 it seems.

Boy, believe me: I AM GOOD ENOUGH to control car-sims! And Enthusia sucked at E3.
And because somebody said it: NO, it does NOT look as good as GT4!

hmm? i played it last year at the german gc and the steering was good, a little bit to easy, but overall good. also the gfx looked like gran turismo 4 (especially the cars).

Do you have a copie of GT4 at home?

Well thats why I was calling it a GT killer becuase it was more realistic.

The tire and engine sounds seem to be much better than GT. The Konami wheel gives 900 degrees of TFF and the option to install your own racing wheel versus the unrealisticly small wheel on the DFP. Enthusia has a clutch. Graphics seem to be on par and goes beyond that of GT4 with dynamic headlamp lighting, tire marks, ect. Anyways I am keeping my hopes up that it will turn out very well. That Miata comparison video is just too good.

In terms of graphics, it is not as good as GT4 in the gameplay video that I have (Famitsu Wave DVDs), but it seems that it will also be one hell of a driving game. Their stress point seems to be on the true to reality behaviors of the car in the video (the ones that I have).

Where did you get this dvd or can you host the Enthusia part??????

Well, I just thought I'd pop into this thread and bring some more positive comments...

Gran Turismo = Arcade
Enthusia = Sim

simple as that.

I played this extensively at TGS in September, in fact I missed out on playing many games just so I could keep testing the vehicle dynamics. Enthusia is without a shadow of a doubt the most realistic driving game I've played (on a console). As much fun as this is for me, I'm sure the realism will be the games downfall... most people want to drive around corners powersliding at mach2, not having to worry too much about throttle application. When racing, I want to worry about everything ;)

Enthusia does have an Achilles heel though and that's the PS2 pad, it’s as if nobody at Konami has bothered setting the feel or the sensitivity up, they’ve just gone 100% focused on the race wheel and pedals. After playing it at TGS on the sit down cabinet for 30 mins and then playing on a pad, it felt rather poor, they really need to work on the pad control more than anything else for the final release... not everyone has steering wheels at home, even me.

Anyway, I know I don’t post here much and I know people won’t accept my word on this, but this is the perfect simulation that I’ve been waiting for and I’d praise it much higher than the GT series or pretty much any other driving game (except GPL and GTR)

And just so my post has an ounce of credibility and people believe my opinion on the physics, I’ve been racing cars for the past 5 years…

However, before all the sim-heads get too excited, there were unsubstantiated rumours that since TGS, Konami have tried to dumb the game down… if they’ve done that, I’ll be horrified.

Oh, and to maskrider, if you’re the same person as the maskrider at GTPlanet, thanks for all those GT4 translations! Couldn’t play that game without your help.

Yes, you are welcome. I'm the same maskrider.

Even for GT4, after getting used to the DFP wheel, I simply am reluctant to play the game with DS2.

Enthusia is going to have their own wheel, and you can mount your own steering wheel on it.

A lot of Enthusia demo systems are at Tokyo Auto Salon 2005, all the wheels are DFP. I am wondering how will the Enthusia wheel compare to DFP.

Visually it looks incredibly similar to GT, whether people like that or not. In fact I'm willing to bet if you swapped their HUDs on certain tracks most ppl wouldn't be the wiser which is which.

Problem with any kind of really faithfull simulation driving game is that it'll generally be borderline unplayable for casual audiences.
So I would say you're probably right - negative impressions don't mean the game is a crappy sim at all, most likely exact opposite. But they do imply it lacks casual appeal of GT, one thing that most "GT killers" have in common.

Now that I read the other posts, marvelharvey explains the whole sim aspect even more eloquently then I have.

honestly, i think your right. felt great at e3 to me

Looks like it will be $10 cheaper than GT4 at $39 and is set for a March 8th release date for the US and March 17th for Japan. It just keeps getting better.
