GT4 Q

Has anyone tried it in 1080i on their HDTV? How is it?
It depends on your TV mostly. I tried it on a friends' LCD and it looked pretty good, not like OMG NEXT GEN but noticeably better than 480i over component [which is what I run].

On my LCD, I noticed patternized vertical lines. While faint, they tend to make it look a lil' funny. Looks very sharp.

1080i on my CRT is juicy! The only way to play.

Not a huge difference, but an improvement nonetheless. Still haven't noticed the lack of detail (removed screen furniture) in that mode. Quite a feat on Polyphony's end.

Only side effect is that the screen jumps and turns a few colors while going from interlaced (menus) to progressive (race).

They had to lower the bit depth to get it to display at that resolution., so everything looks dithered. It also slows down when several cars get on the screen at once, otherwise, it's pretty crisp. You get to see just how low poly and low texture everything is. It's kinda like running Xbox 1 games in HD on a 360.

Alright. Being that I can't find a damn 360 for the life of me, I wanted something that'll show off my new tv...

Menu's remain in 480i. 480p and 1080i only affect in-game races.

that's gotta suck for older HDTVs that don't auto switch/detect formats.

it rids a lot of the jaggies found in 480p, looks smooth, i found no slowdown, but it looks...wierd, washed out with faint lines all over it. scanlines i guess. but i wouldnt play it any other way

OOOOOh. Pretty.

Does having my GT3 save on the same memory card unlock anything?

I don't think it "unlocks" anything... not that I remember anyways.. but you are able to use quite a bit of the cash you had from your previous save.. don't ask me how much, cause I can't remember..

Those faint lines are "dithering".

So in other words, sell all of my GT3 cars.

>>>It's kinda like running Xbox 1 games in HD on a 360.<<<

Xbox1 games do NOT run in HD on a 360. That's what gets output, but it's sure not what gets rendered. If they try to pass off an actual 360 game as 720p when it's really 480p, someone is getting my foot up their ass. (PGR3 is the first slip down that particular slope, with that 600p bs)

I thought GT4 is also getting upscanned hence the comparison here. Actually Xbox games shoudl look better thanks to that AA.

You can transfer 100,000 credits and your B and A licenses to GT4. Transferring licenses lets you enter the races that require those licenses, but to get the prize cars for the license test you still need to Bronze/Silver/Gold all the license tests.

I just need to get around Nuburgring fast enough to get the last of the 80 license golds.

Isnt it just 480i upconverted ? I find it hard to believe that the PS2 could output 1440 x 1080 with that engine, considering how it looks at 480i.

Being a PAL guy, i didnt get a chance to play it at 1080i (thanks sony).

I believe it's rendered at 540i, and then just doubled. That's why it's looks a bit less jaggy than 480i, but still much worse than 1080i. Textures look a lot better though. Dithered, but better.
