GTA: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition |OT| Ah shit, here we go again

Bought for PS5, spent a couple of hours on “3” as I’ll be playing them in order.

my opinion

was really looking forward to the trilogy, then I came to this thread and social media to see the game being slated, I prepared myself to be disappointed.

After actually playing 3, I was enjoying it, the game is almost exactly how I remembered playing it during the PS2 era, and that is what I wanted, NOT the experience I had a few months ago whilst actually trying to replay the Original games, because that wasn’t how I remembered them back in the day, it was ugly, and made worse by playing them on my 65” 4K tv.

so I’m very happy, they play and look the same as my nostalgic memories, ands that exactly what I wanted.

I haven’t touched vice city, or San Andreas yet, but I’m expecting them to follow suit, and considering 3 is the oldest/worst of the 3 I’m quite pleased.

for those moaning about the game/art direction, I can only assume that
A- you never played the console originals back in the day
B- you haven’t tried replaying those originals, especially on a modern tv
C- your coming from PC/Mods

I will say though, how on earth is video killed the radio star not in VC
Game design is outdated, First several missions are utter trash in 3, that i did not enjoy, I haven't played 3 in ages so can't say if it gets any better later, but it's definitely not worth full price IMO.

D- expect more from Rockstar for a $60 remaster.

So did they update the bridge stats? I remember people saying that would be THE barometer for how much attention has been paid to these remasters.
Edit: they did update the stats. But it's clear that they missed a LOT more important details lol

This is the woke/Fortnite/buggy/cut soundtrack/worst rain ever seen in a video game edition! It’s shite!!!
How did they manage to botch the rain? The trailers seemed to show it being improved, yet I've seen some gameplay on twitch and it does look terrible.

Performance is much better. Was glad to see the hooker was still givign head in the background on the crack den mission.

I too am enjoying it, but it's far from a great port. The manual aiming is not up to par with what we were told to expect. I've had some real frustration with early missions that I did not have issues with on the original release. My biggest issues is the terrible lighting. Anything that isn't in direct contact with light is completely dark. I've lost count on the amount of times I've watched cutscenes and couldn't make out any details of characters on screen. They need to fix this big time. Also the rain effects look awful. The original was had a much more subtle look while the remaster is totally in your face and every drop is illuminated. Honestly looks like a shitty Snapchat filter. Gross. At least the only bug I've encountered is subtitles not staying off after I've turned them off in menu.
Turn the contrast down. Don't turn the brightness up. This will fix it.

Don't know why it is like this but many people complaining about this.

For those of you on PC, there's a 'fix' for the god-awful framerate drops. It's not ideal for those who have high refresh rate monitors but Joker got the game running a lot smoother. I'm going to wait for this to get fixed up (if ever).

Another instance of failed OCR, adding it to the collection:

Shit like this is so embarrassing, like, you can't have one guy page through the assets for a day or two making sure everything sounds correct?

Really poor, and to think GAF's preoccupation was with how wOkE this was gonna be - the removal of a confederate flag is the least of anyone's worries

Yeah HEAT instead or MEAT a true embarrassment. I could barely read the original it was that fuzzy and low rez that's why it ended up like this with the OCR. But this isn't an issue at all lets face it, who would give a fuck about this other than people nit picking and farming outrage?

Gradually over last generation.
Yeah, and giving a big fuck-a-doo for single player DLC in their franchises. Then the draught like drip-feed for online content (RDO as an example) and letting glaring bugs sit there until they are good and ready to fix them (while breaking other things) in larger once a year updates. Even if you had 10 small patches in-between that time.

By Grove Street Games. Rockstar had nothing to do with it and it shows. But f**k Rockstar for outsourcing it to the shitty mobile developer!
they had almost everything to do with it. Rockstar own the GTA games but because they didn't want one of their own studios to make it then they hired Grove Street Games to do it instead. Rockstar ordered, funded, and published the game. So they have a lot to answer for.

They either didn't give a fuck what happened with it or they looked at the game and thought yeah this is good enough! They were looking for a quick cash grab and they know people will eat it up because it's got the Rockstar logo slapped on it and it's a GTA game. Easy money.

This is just 1 of 1000 other fuck-ups. Please don't defend this crap. Play it if you like it, but don't downplay all the critisizm because you're doing more harm than good. You're basically saying it's ok they did a poor job of recreating assets which is the most important thing for a remaster. Little details and humor is what always made GTA games so special.

I meant Rockstar had nothing to do with it as regards to developing the actual game.

They are responsible for outsourcing it to the Grove Shite Games though

When did they lose it?
they started to go downhill in 2014.

the original plan was to put out GTA V, GTA Online, and then do single player DLC (yes this was officially announced on Rockstar website). but of course GTA Online was a huge success for them so they thought fuck it why bother with SP DLC we'll go all in with GTA Online. for a while they added GTA Online content into the SP game but eventually stopped just because... it's almost like they forgot that GTA V existed and all they cared about was GTA Online. They were only interested in forcing people to buy Shark Cards.

now remember GTA V is, at its core, a PS3/360 game and it came out over 8 years ago. Rockstar remembered that GTA V existed and thought we'll sell the dumb fucks the same game again! So we got it for PS4/XB1. By this point PC still hadn't even got the game. The PC version didn't come out for another 5 months after PS4/XB1 version. GTA started on PC and now Rockstar treat that platform like scum. Now we're into another generation and Rockstar is now thinking lol we'll sell the idiots the same game a 3rd time now! So better get saving up your $70 to buy the PS5 version.

They don't give a shit about their customers. I get they are a business and are out to make money but they have no respect for their players. They only care about milking us all for all we're worth. If people are sick of it then they need to tell Rockstar to fuck off with their PS5/XSX versions and don't give them any more money.

yeah i get it but i was just making it clear that they are still to blame. they should have a bit more respect for the games they made but whatever. they are making their money.

Loving my return to Libery City but man, how is the fidelity mode not capable of running at 60fps? Talk about poor optimisation.

They sure are milking GTA V to its bones.

But when it comes quality, Rockstar is second to none. I wouldn’t say they have gone downhill since 2014, as their last release RDR2 came out in 2018 and it’s easily one of the greatest games ever created period.

It set a benchmark in level of detail that has not been matched to this day, 3 years later.
No other game comes close…

Rockstar is still bees knees!

As an isolated issue, no, nobody would care - it's when these small issues resulting from complete laziness pile up and up and up and they try and charge me £55 for it that I have a problem. It's called death by a thousand cuts.

Agreed about RDR2 launch... disagree with how they support it. It is literally the bastardized version of support, especially in comparison to GTAV. And I still play RDR2/RDO till this day. They literally are like, FUCK YOU, to the player base where even the devs admitted in interviews they want to drip-feed us content and not do "too much too fast." But man, it's 50-year drought levels.

I mean shit, where is there even framerate patching at bare minimum for the new systems? The content updates are a total joke.

i'm not arguing againt the quality. GTA V is great game and so is RDR2.

anyway lets see how they get on with GTA VI without Dan + Leslie. Rockstar can hire the best developers/writers in the world but Dan + Leslie played a huge role in the GTA games. it'll be interesting to see what VI is like. It'll sell like crazy for sure but i think i will feel different.

Heaven forbid someone is enjoying the game then comes across this shit! HEAT!? Deserves uninstalled right there and then.

I mean heat still works, unlike rinimo. Total non issue. It's still funny for different reasons but most people aren't going too see it let alone care about it. Missing music on the radio stations, that's an issue. This is a gaffe.

True, 60fps would be most welcomed!

You see, you're doing this again for no reason. No one is saying you can't enjoy those remasters. It's fine. But please don't downplay the criticism. Little details are important.

And of course I agree that missing music is even more important.
