GTA V PC Performance Thread

Did that. Seems to have helped a bit but it's still all over the place :x Never a steady 60. Although I noticed that i seem to have problems in other games where I didn't before as well. FF13 for some reason only runs at 30 while not in battle and drops to 20. Skyrim is in the 40s. I seem to be able to run The Witcher 3 at High/Ultra @ 1080p60 though :s

edit: I booted up Skyrim and it automatically set itself to High instead of Ultra. Could I be defaulting to integrated graphics or something?

Could be. If this is a desktop, you really should just disable your integrated graphics in your BIOS.

Blah, upgrading to 352.86 seems to have broken gta v's aa settings. There's a clear difference between no aa and 2x msaa, but if I try to adjust to 4x msaa or 8x msaa it switches back to no aa. DoF seems stuck on even though I have it disabled. I guess I'll try reinstalling the drivers.

Yeah, that is broken + now my game performance seems to go down in the 40's when I used to get 60fps smooth.

I'm not noticing performance drops, but then again I'm also not running 4x msaa anymore. If other people are having the same issue I probably should just roll back to the last whql drivers.

Does this game have issues with VRAM memory leaks? I'm using MSI Afterburner, and notice that while VRAM usage usually sticks around 1.8 GB, it'll sometimes go up to 1.9GB, and keep creeping up and becoming more stuttery until I either change shadow quality or alt-tab out and back in, which lowers VRAM usage. I don't recall having this issue before the first patch.

Wow, yeah I didn't think it would ever happen, but the new Nvidia drivers have completely fixed the SLI stutter and weird performance issues I was having with my 980 SLI. Now for the first time ever I'm getting a smooth 60fps feel when driving around at 4k with settings up mostly on very high. It would always stutter with this choppy feel when driving like it was struggling to load in new objects quick enough. Basically choppiness like Watchdogs has when driving.

But now that's all gone and it just runs silky smooth with occasional drops, but at least those are just drops caused by certain things pushing performance and then they go away. Before it would never go away and was just this consistent bad feel to driving. Really awesome that they fixed it.

Kind of glad I put the game on hold about halfway through to play some other stuff. Gonna be great coming back to this at 60fps.

When I set my Pagefile to 'system managed' it's saying only 3307mb is allocated for my SSD. I'm wondering if I need to expand my Pagefile now, even though I was advised to put to 'system managed'. That strikes me as low..

I'm in the same confused boat...

I have 3 drives - SSD with OS and GTA5 and 2 standard drives. Do I set all 3 to system managed? When I do it for my SSD it says that the min is 16 and allocated is 16gb with 5.5gb recommended. is that ok?

Should I also do system managed on the other 2 drives?

Just look at it logically, would it be quicker to access something on three different drives or just one drive.

If your setting it to system managed then it'll go up and down as it needs but it wont go over the maximum.

Ok, so I set my page file to be system managed and am still getting crashes. I have a 970 with the most current beta drivers...should I roll them back?

So yea my game will no longer start up. Haven't played in a few weeks due to schooling and such, but I can get as far as the glass breaking sound in the intro before the game stops working. Any ideas?

It's RSC; is there a similar option?

Delete update.rpf in the update folder, and common.rpf in the main directory. Then launch the game, and I believe the launcher should re-download those files. Failing that, try deleting/moving your Rockstar Games folder from documents, and see if that's causing the issue.

I guess it was a USB adapter causing the issue? I've played the game with the same adapter for like a month with no problems prior though.

edit: Looks like RivaTuner frame cap doesn't work anymore, screen tearing like crazy.

Running at Very High settings with the exception of grass quality I'm able to keep up 60 fps at 1080p on my 780 Ti.

Its crazy having played the game on my PS4 and PS3, I never thought that 60 fps would make such a HUGE difference for the game. It's so much more enjoyable now.

I don't know what it is about GTAV, but 60fps seemed much more important. I can tolerate 30FPS on The Witcher 3, but it drove me crazy on GTA5

I think the biggest difference is in GTAV, I use first person view alot. With anything first person, I really need the 60 fps.

Mainly because GTA has non-existent motion blur, which is essential for running a game at 30fps. For example, I played through Dying light at 30fps and it was a much more enjoyable experience as the game features solid motion blur. In GTA, the motion blur effect is extremely weak. In truth, I cant really tell whether its off or full.

I'm not sure if this is the most relevant thread, but I've been experiencing crazy weird internet issues lately and I'm on the verge of switching ISP's. the deal breaker is the main person I play the game with can't see me move - just warp around apparently, all of our traffic is de-synched, etc. etc. anyways, if anyone could spare a few minutes and invite me to a game and tell me if I'm moving or warping I would sincerely appreciate it.

Thought id do a little data logging to see how good the port is:

RMvX04R.png

Very high res if you open in a new tab.

I start off in the city at night, drive to paleto bay at about half way, then change time to morning, foggy. Drive around the saw mill area, then spawn a Lazer jet, fly around in fog, then put it to Sunny clear weather, fly around the woods, then chase a plane and end up in the desert area. Logging interval was 500ms.

Pretty solid performance.

i7 3770 4.25Ghz
2x4GB Ram 2100Mhz CL 10
GTX 970 1545Mhz/3900Mhz

GPU and CPU temps are pretty good, system is totally silent with all fans fixed at 7v, including the CPU fan, in a Fractal Node 304.

Fucking finally fixed my micro stutter / scenery hitching.

Pretty embarrassing, but:

1st attempt (fail): First thing I tried was upgrading to 16gb ram b/c I thought low "free ram" could've been the cause of the hitching. Nope. Zero difference.

2nd attempt (fail)
: Then I got a 256GB Samsung 850 SSD and ran it off that. Nope, zero difference besides load times. Frustration sets in.

3rd attempt (success!)
: Pretty much out of options besides a new mobo I reinstalled a fresh copy of Widows 8.1.

Hitching seems to be pretty much 99% gone compared to being almost unplayable before the clean install. Finally, after almost a month of trying to figure this out. This is the only game I've had trouble making stutter-free besides Ethan Carter.

Bonus: Disabled my main HDD pagefile and a set my SSD pagefile to 8GB. Hitching/stutter seems to have improved dramatically, especially when driving full speed through the city.

TLDR: If you've tried all of the tweaks and are still getting stutter/hitching while driving w/ a high-end PC, try a complete reinstall of Windows. It'll take a few hours but it's worth it.

Strange that the clean install worked b/c I apparently had zero malware and never d/l shady stuff. My best guess is something was fucking with my drivers.

i7 3770 | 970 FTW+ | 16GB RAM | 256 SSD
G-Sync, Max pre-rendered frames: 1, Maximum performance power plan, RTSS lock to 60fps. Witcher 3 drivers.

will update post if this is just a fluke and the hitching returns.

Look at my graphs, SSD pagefile is a MUST. Pagefile on HDD will kill performance in GTA V. Pagefile should be atleast 1.5x RAM for GTA V on 8Gb ram or atkeast 0.5x on 16Gb ram.

Awesome. So I completely disable the pagefile for my main OS HDD and enable min: 8000mb max: 8000mb for the SSD? Thanks.

Thanks guy. I heard this decreases the life of the SSD, but I'll only use the SSD pagefile when necessary.

Nah. OS is on HDD b/c the SSD is only 256gb.

Man, you really should have installed windows on the SSD, it makes windows nice and fast.

Feels like a big upgrade.

Yes it decreases the life span of the SSD, but lifespans are long enough not to care anymore. Unless you have an SSD from the time when SSDs released (I do, and i still do it =D), then no need to worry.

And you should have put the OS on the SSD!!!! Crazy not to.

with 16GB or more RAM you should just turn off the page file. No, it doesn't cause any problem ever. Also turn off hibernate to disable creation of a HUGE temp file. It only slows you down, use sleep instead on a modern CPU it is as good. I wouldn't recommend page file on SSD, just pay a little and upgrade your RAM.

Put your OS on SSD, you're missing the point of it.

Without going too much off topic, but having a minimal page file ensures compatibility with some programs that relies on it due to their code. I can't remember which programs (i might be thinking of photoshop but meh) has crashed before for me due to this.
I might be wrong abou the specific programs that have done this though, but i have had it happened. like 9/10 will work just fine but there's always that one program that relies on it. So for stability purposes having the page file at the minimum (800mb is it?) just ensures full compatibility.

And yes, have your OS on the SSD.

Lol goddamn. I've got a 128GB SSD, but it's absolutely worth putting the OS on it. I still remember my old PC taking over a minute to boot up lol.

I've got a weird issue over here. I was able to play five hours of the story mode fine. But the last five days, I can boot GTA online but when ever I attempt to load story mode it just endlessly loads. The loading screens and text change, but the game will sit there and load for ever (literally waited 30 minutes the other day) and I have to alt f4 out. It's on an SSD as well, so it should not be a hard drive issue, every other game loads fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, deleted the updates folder and verified the game cache, signed in and out of rockstar online, can't seem to find a fix that works.

Yes that would be the best thing to do.

You don't have the OS on the SSD??

Would a 16GB pagefile benefit even more over 8GB or would that be futile? I read somewhere someone claiming their game was using a 9GB pagefile. Thanks!

edit: 8GB does seem to be helping dramatically though. Most stutter gone. Really appreciate it. About to try 16GB.

Yeah, the OS should be the first thing to go on your SSD. Most games aren't that IO intensive and don't benefit significantly from being on an SSD, a game like GTAV seems to though.

Just bought this on PC, got this shit running pretty decent for having a two year old PC. Getting like 40fps and it looks pretty damn good. Way better than PS4.

I really need a new graphics card though!! My specs:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz
CPU Speed: 3.8 GHz
RAM: 16 GB
Operating System: Windows 8 64 bit
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series

This may not be the right place to ask but I can't find the OT. Does anyone know if I can straight up download a game save file from somewhere that will basically allow me to pick up where I left off on my PS4 game? I was like half way through the story and I'm not really wanting to play it all over again if I don't have too.

Yes this does run well on pc. I ported my PS4 online character over to pc but pretty sure the single player story will need starting again.

For whatever reason, my car radio is now stuck on Self Radio lol. I can try to switch but I only hear the short switching noise and I'm back to Self Radio. Anyone else experienced this? Deleting my mod folder + asi loader & verifying game files didn't help.

A buddy of mine is having trouble with his GTA launcher. He has the nonsteam version and today out of nowhere the game won't launch. He clicks the shortcut or even the exe and nothing happens. Sometimes the launcher will flash up then disappear. He has tried updating his graphics drivers so far but we have no idea. Is there a verify command like on Steam games? Any ideas?
