GTA V PC Performance Thread

Thanks guy. I heard this decreases the life of the SSD, but I'll only use the SSD pagefile when necessary.

Nah. OS is on HDD b/c the SSD is only 256gb.

Move the OS to the SSD.

Yes you only have 256gb, but the improvement is more than worth the cost of space.

Trust us.

My brother picked up the game on my PC even though I told him I wasn't sure how well it'd run.

I played it a bit before bed and at 720p with pretty much all settings on normal and Direct X 11 I was getting about 30 fps, with dips during the first police chase with Franklin to about 15 fps.

I've read around the internet that systems similar to mine are getting better results at slightly higher graphics and 1080p. Any idea what's up?

AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE 3.0GHz
GTX 560 Ti
6 GB RAM
Windows 7

Where'd you read that? I'd be interested in seeing those benchmarks.

YouTube videos for one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MzF1Vdp-1Y

His processor is better than mine, but he has less RAM. Guess he could be bullshitting, but I don't believe he is.

I'm not expecting a miracle here, it just seems like my performance should be more consistent.

It clearly seems that the person who made the video stated something wrong in his specs, the CPU he states he is using doesn't even exist with that name. The correct name of the CPU is AMD Phenom II X3 710. It's a 3-core CPU that can be unlocked to be a 4-core CPU (that's probably why he called it Phenom II 710 x4). But even when unlocked it isn't as powerful as your CPU. The AMD Phenom 940 BE has 4 cores enabled out of the box and has a higher single core and multi-threaded performance in comparison to an unlocked 710. Even tho it seems he has overclocked the 710 from the default 2.6GHz to 3.25GHz it still should fall below your processors capability at stock settings.
Maybe you have some system hogs blocking you from getting better frame rates. Like unnecessary processes or something like that. A clean OS installation should give you a good view on how your PC performs when it hasn't got some useless garbage running in the background (if that's the case).

EDIT:

After watching a bit more of the video I think I could say he is definitely not having normal/high settings on. You can clearly see the bad texture quality, pixelated shadows, low view distance, low res reflections etc.
Looks more like low/normal to me...

Been a while guys.... sorry, haven't had much time....

Updated op with todays gta patch, and some new links/info for graphics drivers.

Huge update (800 MB) downloading now on Steam. Change log is too long to post so here's the link https://support.rockstargames.com/h...date-1-27-Notes-PS4-Xbox-One-PS3-Xbox-360-PC-

Nice. Reading through it now, noticed this buried in there:

Added a new command line option for advanced users to specify the number of cores used by GTAV on their system by using the command line argument “-maxthreads #”.

Doubt it'd be worth using tbh, but it's there if anyone wants it.

Impressive to see the amount of PC only fixes though. Game was already running fine, so it's nice to see they're trying to make it perfect.

They also added a new advanced setting for 'frame scaling' which is from what I can tell just resolution scaling, so that's pretty cool.

Patch seems to have finally fixed the micro stutter I was getting while whipping around the city in a vehicle. Took a couple months, but better late than never. Can finally play after holding off for so long. Feels just as amazing as I imagined. i7 3770 (stock) + 970. Oh, and max pre-rendered frames: 1 like always.

Not sure if I should use "-maxthreads=4" for the new command. Anyone? Appreciate it.

They fixed the 59hz issue in fullscreen too, it lists 60hz properly and doesn't force me to use RTSS.

Yup, no more RTSS.

edit: was too good to be true. micro stutter has randomly returned with a vengeance after starting the game up the next day.

1.75 DSR works great on my 780 now , no drops to 30fps no sudden drops at all, I could probably bump up the settings a bit its so stable and so few drops.

I did some research about GTA V offline PC and I heard it does not work. The Social Club log on screen will repeat itself when offline. Is this true?

Is anyone getting slightly worse performance after this patch? I could run it on ultra/very high with my 7850 at about 40-50fps but now I seem to get a lot more drops in both single player and multiplayer. Maybe the patch messed with my video setting some how, I might have to go through all that stuff again.

That has been my experience and it's a serious bummer.

Sorry to disappoint but I think I'm actually getting better performance. I've all but maxed it out on my 780 (30fps lock, I'm crazy I know) and I'm getting zero drops. Pre patch I would get occasional drops down to 25-26.

I even drove out to the grassy areas around sandy shores to test it out and couldn't get it to drop below 30. I even bumped grass up to ultra and it stayed locked. Feels too good to be true, looking forward to getting some time with it later tonight to see if it's stable after an hour or so of play.

Yeah I booted it up again and messed with my settings a bit and it's doing okay now, probably just a placebo effect since I haven't played in a while.

Saw this post over on the Steam forums. Has to be bullshit, no?

Latest patch boost my experience up to 20 FPS+ on a single GTX 680 2GB I LOVE U R*
Using the latest iCafe drivers from Nvidia -> http://www.overclock.net/t/1557811/...driver-352-94-for-windows-8-1-8-7-is-released
+ in game folder i created a commandline.txt and inside i put -maxthreads 4 and save.
Settings used as always Ultra advanced settings ON and grass only on HIGH for that sweet 60+ FPS experience in 1080p
FPS in city: 90-110 FPS WTF?
FPS outside the town where its a lot of grass : 67-88
Perfect patch R* for Maxwell and Kepler owners not like the other company's that makes patches just for one arhitecture (cough CDPR)
thank you so much as always R* and keep up the great pcmasterrace work.

Ultra on a 2gb 680? Lol.

Exactly. Thought this new iCafe driver from Nvidia was some kind of miracle pfffft haha

Just to reiterate for the new page, patch seems to have cleaned up 100% of my micro stutter while speeding around the city. Beautiful work R*.

edit: started the game up this morning and my micro stutter is suddenly back with a vengeance. feels bad.

edit: seems there's an issue w/ g-sync with the latest drivers.

New patch! Has anyone tested if the Self Radio stuttering is still present?

And did they ever fix the issue where AO was missing, even though it was toggled ON in the settings?

Sadly it's still present, at least for me. Cpu usage often spikes to 100% when switching to Self Radio.

Shame. I guess that's the way the game works, since they seem to not have a solution for it. Really strange though, this is the first GTA game with these issues concerning MP3s for the radio.

New patch today introduced stuttering while driving around. It wasn't there last night (normally 60fps on a 980).

Now I get to troubleshoot for the rest of the afternoon. THANKS.

980 owner here. Yep, patch introduced a nasty stuttering every few seconds for me too.

Same here. What the hell? Ran so smooth finally. Even the slight stuttering while driving was gone with yesterdays patch. 970 owner here. Used 352.86 with the framerate capped to 60 on a 144Hz screen. Damnit Rockstar!

Finally booted this up after I finished Witcher 3 yesterday. Seems like my performance has gone down for some reason. Before I was getting a solid 60fps with everything cranked up (i7-870, GTX 970 4GB) and now it seems my framerate is fluctuating constantly between 30 to 60.

I did go from using the GTA ready driver to using the Witcher 3 ready drivers from nvidia during my playthrough of the witcher...but that seems like it should not cause that much of an issue.

Have you tried capping your framerate with RivaTuner? That straightened things out for me. What was happening was my framerate kept jumping between 60 and 61 fps for some reason.

I'm pretty sure I got the patch. I saw it starting to install something even though I disconnected my network cable before running the executable. I'm still getting the solid 60fps I was getting a few days ago when I last played. Will keep an eye on it though especially after the next time I log back into Steam.

Getting microstutter as well, post patch. Lovely. Usual tricks like alt-tabbing out of the game and back in, or changing a graphic setting like soft shadows to something else and back, do nothing. Stutter seems most prevalent when I move my mouse around. If I'm just running or driving in a straight line, it seems fine.

Also, it appears motion blur is on but I always have it off. Can't get rid of it.

GTX 780, latest drivers.

I haven't played for almost a month and after the update it CTDs after the startup screens even in safe mode. I haven't updated my mods since I last played but I assume it must have wiped all of them since I had a skip R* screen mod and that shows up now. It's literally never crashed before so it shouldn't have to do with my hardware. 15.5 beta AMD drivers are installed.

So, if I have to replace any modded files with the original, I have some random files backed up but don't know where they all go. Could you help me with these files?

My game has started crashing for the first time post patch. I'd gone 28 hours without one, who knows might just be a coincidence.

I may have noticed the same thing... is it a slight hitch that happens intermittently?

Yep, a sort of rhythmic hitching/stuttering.

I fixed it by validating the game files and rebooting my PC. I had to do this with the last patch too (the big update we got earlier in the week). I don't know how or why this worked both times. I have 16gb of ram so I don't think its a RAM issue...? I played two missions and it was perfect but I'm going to scrutinize the game later on when I have more time.

Interesting, I'll keep this in mind but I had to disable all additional overlays so I could get Steam's overlay to work properly. (for easy snapshots in BPM)

EDIT: played for about a half hour and the stuttering returned the longer I played. It was perfect when I booted it up.

Those with stuttering issues might want to try switching to "direct input" for their mouse control. Default is "raw input". This eliminated stuttering for me, but I still simply cannot get the motion blur to go away (I have it turned all the way down).

I remember you from GameTZ! I'm Sean on there.
