Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

I'm actually thinking about doing that right now, so I'll have it soonish.

I think... I think I might just explode with happiness.

Since the Guardian's colors are blue and white, it's going to be tough not to color my gear similar to that just to look cool. People would be able to single me out easy though :(

Fixed

Mesmer is, I believe from watching it play, extremely positional and utilizes the movement and actions of the combat system more than any other class - illusions everywhere, incredibly random condition attachment, just absolute confusion back and forth if you set it up right, especially if you move and your illusions confuse your foe terribly.

Everything I've heard from PVP in WvW or what have you has said when fighting a Mesmer, it's goddamn hard. They will trick the shit out of you with phantasms and clones, and picking the right one will be tough.

It's a little like the Psionicist class in Allods - that class also had a lot of fun confusing people with clones and invis and such. It's really frustrating for the opponent.
I mean clones aside. The class in terms of wepons seems tough to use. This a class that shoots lasers out it's sword. So doesn't it then become a ranged class?

You could go pink. People would just think your one of the mesmers clone or just really flamboyant.

Only as the Greatsword. The 1H Sword is very much melee.

I would combine Scepter and Offhand (....? Haven't looked into which one) for maximum ranged efficiency, even Staff would do.

Basically, I would go after the initial skill's insistence on being at maximum range for max damage, and build it around getting there and staying that far away. Also possible to run GS (range) and Sword/Offhand (melee) for versatility. The class lends itself that way much easier. Just another way to confuse enemies thinking you're one or the other. Nope, melee in your face bitch! Oh oh snap you running? SWAP take laser beams!

You wouldn't have to worry if your game was good. Although I have never heard of secret world. But They shouldn't be worried about other people being better than your game. They should worry about how They can make the game better for Their fanbase. it's such bull when you talk about "oh we should of released it so and so. Because some one else did worse than we thought they would." what happened to "for the fans" that shit just die one day or something.

Yeah I'm gonna have a pirate gear magic find set for sure now.

I think maxrpg greatly overrates the prowess of the Mesmer right now. Clones do little damage, confusion has a short duration and requires a lot of stacking, making it a weaker control method than stuns, blinds or chill.

It doesn't even look in-play much like a Mesmer at all right now. The clones are a gimmick that only work because everyone is new to the game, but I was able to quickly able to pick out the player from the clone in videos of fights vs Mesmers. Lewis B tried really hard to make Mesmer work, but it relied very heavily on constantly vanishing. This reduced the amount of damage he took and made it harder to figure out that all of the Mesmers were clones, but it just meant he lived longer. The control factor was nearly zero and the damage unimpressive. There is no pick-your-poison choice for the Mesmer's target like there should be. It's more a pain in the ass for the mesmer than his foe.

The class looks the roughest of the eight right now, but it was the last revealed so that's not a big surprise. They will probably change the shatter mechanic and some skills. It also could use another weapon option. I think they should just rethink the whole illusion thing entirely.

Right now the class is complex but not rewarding in its complexity.

Easiest way to pick out the real Mesmer is to either hit one and see how much HP drops, it will be quite easy to pick them out when their HP drops quite fast. Also, take notice if one of the Mesmers is acting like a human and moving around and you have your answer as to who to kill. They need to have your clones mimic your abilities 1:1 and also when they split the clones, have them evenly spaced out AND move you away from your original spot so people can't quickly and easily pick out the real Mesmer over a clone.

that's what I was thinking. Clones are weak as hell and you need to stack before you can Att.

You don't have to use real money for it =o

No, something like that isn't extravagant enough for the cash shop. The stuff you can buy for real money is VERY nice and noticeably different looking than say that pirate armor.

Here's an example of the first weapon sets you can get in the Catacombs (level 30ish dungeon). During the daytime they give you extra HP, at night they glow a ghastly blue color and leech life from your enemies:

I can normally tell the player from the clones because the player moves more. If the player doesn't move, then like you said, you just aoe and the clones die, leaving the player. Aside from making them mimick the player more, the illusions need to be more of a threat that force the opponent into decisions. Imagine if a Phantasm channeled a cloud of butterflies around a foe that caused them to heal nearby allies of the Mesmer. This forces the player to choose between attacking the Mesmer or its Phantasm, because ignoring the Phantasm actually benefits the Mesmer and his allies. It's much more mesmery than a phantasm swordsman that attacks every four seconds and then does nothing in between.

Agreed, I think once some real players get in there they'll get the feedback that the Mesmer needs because obviously it has the least amount of iteration of any of the professions.

None of the posted builds using the GW2 tools site are working for me....QQ

Got dayum at Gary Gannon's video. It had atmosphere ... I didn't want it to end. Absolutely loved it.

This might be a dumb question but what exactly is the stat Magic Find?

It increases the chance you'll find loot that are (likely) blues and above.

Item rarity is as follows:

Common White
Fine Blue
Masterwork Green
Rare Yellow
Exotic Orange
Legendary Red
Transmuted Purple

That's pretty sweet for item hunting. I guess it's fitting there is a lot of it on that pirate armor/skin.

We better all get beta invites!!

Jira, do you sleep? Or have you simply found the fountain of youth which requires you have no sleep?

Why does the Pirate outfit have +10% magic find stat and +25% magic find stat? Strange....

My sleep schedule got screwed up so I'm on graveyard. The runes are cumulative, so if you have 2 of the pirate runes you have the 1st & 2nd stats, put in 2 more and you have 1, 2, 3, and 4. This allows you to make whatever set bonuses that you want on any gear in the game. You have 6 slots total to fit in whatever runes you want to and make up bonuses as you see fit.

Ugh. I hate graveyards. Good luck with adjusting the sleep schedule asap.

Thanks for the rune info.

Np, I'll probably just stay awake all day today and get back on track. All of the TB footage should make that easier.

Also, I wanted to say that I'm glad this thread has got a hell of a lot more discussion going than my info thread. I guess the embargo lift might have had a lot to do with the surge of interest given the sheer amount of footage and impressions we've got lately.

Hell, I would be happy with a Total Biscuit vid or two...

They're coming today. Warrior overview of all weapons but the axe, explorable catacombs footage (he has over 2 hours unedited, I'm guessing we'll get 45 min edited), and he has over 6 hours of unedited WvW though I guess we'll see at least an hour. I do have to wonder if it was indeed the explorable version or not, we'll have to see.

Guys if you didn't know, Jira is actually a robot. He is not human so he has all GW related answers and info available on the whim. Just an FYI.

All this mezmer hate. And plenty of it from me! Time to explore a bit...

Mezmer Confusion/Clone Spammer
http://gw2.luna-atra.fr/skills_tool/?lang=en&code=2g5601g201p1k241050paucgcjcsd1d3d5

Skills (confusion stacks)
-Constantly use cry of frustration on single clone summons, they blow up and cause confusion
-Create two types of clones that apply confusion with sceptor/torch, you can also apply with ether bolt, blow them up for more confusion
-Use your staff to layer more conditions and create more exploding clones for CoF
-Use illusionary warlock to do even more condition damage on hit
-Use signet of domination to increase condition damage

Traits
-(atts) Some domination to lengthen confuse duration
-(atts) Full malace for condition damage and CoF recharging
-Chaotic transference makes 10% toughness condition damage
-+50 condition damage with scepter
-Shatters cause confusion (lolz)
-Confusing cry gives 2x length on CoF confusion

Confused?

If you can stack confusion properly, you might create confusion damage bombs on enemies. You can also receive help from other classes to layer confuse/conditions and ethereal fields are cross-combo confuse. It would be hilarious to see somebody mash '1' and kill themselves with a 1/4 health loss explosion.
