Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

Saw it brought up on another site and thought it was interesting because it never accured to me. Intrdoucing new weapons in expansions. It would pretty much be the only way for them to bring in new skills, and it would also over time make the game more complex with more weapons and more combos to chose from. If they bring in new professions they would probably need a new weapon or two anyways. Makes me like the way they are doing skills a lot. I can think of two handed axes, crossbows, spears, scythes? Also they could definitely do some more underwater weapons, especially if they do more water specific stuff in expansions.

Still no beta invite. :( I need an invite! I can't stop thinking about this damn game.

I wonder if ArenaNet is taking action against those breaking the NDA by saying that they got into the beta? I've seen some people blatantly post it on Facebook tagging Guild Wars 2s FB page. Unbelievable.

Haha, wow, now that is just dumb. Hopefully making way for new people to get invited.

Let's cross our fingers!!!! Hopefully ArenaNet will update the beta invite status on its FB page. Would at least stop my f5 key from taking more abuse......

I'm sure this was posted by Autobot Jira, just don't recall seeing it. So, if old, just ignore...but I absolutely LOVE these PvP armor sets.

You sure those are PVP? I saw them, but didn't post them because they looked like just screencaps of the armor the characters are in at the selection screen.

Wow, those armor sets look so good. So much detail and variation in design, size and color. It's a world of difference from what you see on SWTOR which is just, well... embarrassing.

I keep checking my email, expecting a miracle. I wish they would just announce when all invites have gone out so I can begin my mourning period.

My two-week NeoGAF ban was lifted this morning, so expect my usual giant mega-replies shortly. I won't waste everyone's time replying to the last two weeks worth of news though. I'm glad I didn't miss any major events beyond the Beta invites starting to come out.

Good to be back. I spent the last two weeks playing Dark Souls and enjoying a little vacation with the wife for our first anniversary.

In case anyone was curious, I was banned for saying a junior troll had an "ugly personality" in the HaloGAF Community thread after he made a nasty personal jab at another poster. Whether my comment actually merited a ban or not, it resulted in one and that's life. It was a crazy thread due to all the Halo 4 news and the moderator probably just torched everything rather than try to pick through the thread for who's part of that community and who's just drive-by trolling from the gaming side threads (which were total chaos).

That's GAF, though, and I'd rather have over-zealous moderation keeping the community weeded out than poor moderation letting things go to hell. I'd rather face a two-week ban for a slip up than have NeoGAF turn into something like the Gamespot forums.

Everyone still planning to play a Charr Guardian or has it changed up?

Welcome back Retro. We already figured there would be some massive reply all, dissapointed it wasn't your first post back in the thread. :lol

Thanks. There's been too much conversation that's already moved on, so it'd be completely unnecessary to reply to most of it. I'm just glad it was only two weeks, or I'd have missed out on potential beta news.

I did miss the announcement for the CE though, so let me reply to that; holy shit at that statue. I'm totally getting the Deluxe Collector's edition, though I wish the actual in-game items were better.

yeah im not too happy with the one time use items or the personal banker you can only use for 5 days...i think thats so pointless and retarded.

im still getting the digital deluxe edition though :-(

The in game items absolutely suck. Hoping they still have time to revise them, but I doubt they will.

Retro suspiciously not talking about beta invite status.....good job! :lol

I think Gamebreaker hit the nail on the head. The limited time use items are carrots for loving them so much, you will want to purchase them on the microtransaction store.

The CE desperately needs a cosmetic item that makes CE characters stand out from the rest.

Yeah, it seems like something to speed you through the leveling process, rather than any kind of quality-of-life item. Very unhappy with the in-game goodies.

Kill 10 Rats had a great article on it; http://www.killtenrats.com/2012/03/14/gw2-momentary-deluxe/

I have to say, I'd trade all of the GW2 in-game items for the Divine Aura. At least it's something unique that nobody else has and can be kind of showy and cool if pointless (which is kind of the point of premium edition content if you ask me). There are going to be lots of pets in the game so even the Rytlock pet isn't that unique. The Elite skill will probably be gimped so as not to give CE buyers an advantage, so what are they really paying for besides out-of-game goodies?

I'm not happy with those in-game items, yeah.

Don't understand why the items are so limited in terms of use.
I guess it's the first real sacrifice on the Altar of the Cash Shop.
Definitely wanted to see something like extra character slots, maybe some free cash-shop credits.

None of the things in the collector's edition are really unique enough to be worth the substantial increase in price.
Of course, the elite skill might be really cool and the pet might be awesome, but I have to admit to being disappointed.
That statue though is still cool enough to get me to buy the big-honkin' CE though...

=(

Yeah, I have a feeling they're saving the good stuff for the cash shop. I already know I'm probably going to be buying a few extra character slots just to reserve names and such. It would have been nice to get one free for buying the Collector's Edition.

So apparently there's going to be a media beta event this weekend, according to totalbiscuit https://twitter.com/#!/Totalbiscuit/status/181762622012669952 . I wonder if the non-media invitees will play together with the press?

Seems like they will be the same time. Wouldn't really make sense to try to do two betas right after eachother. Guild Wars Insider accidentaly let the date leak late last week, then they took the post down. Figured they took it down because of the NDA surpristed TB is saying it.

Wish they did more space for the people that signed up. Dumb media taking our spots, they already got their time to play!

I posted on the GW2 FB page, asking to put something different in for CE buyers, mentioned Divine Aura.....and holy crap. People were on my case saying that they wont add items that will give characters an advantage over other characters. /bonk. #ignorance ftl

Should ask them what they consider the elite skill to be then...

I doubt it will be any kind of advantage, but if there is anything to flip out about it is that.

The Collectors/Deluxe editions need some kind of cosmetic/minipet and a goofy emote. I'd settle for an annoying emote, then I'd be happy.

The CE has a Rytlock pet, but if GW2 is anything like WoW in the mini-pet department, there's going to be so many of them floating around that nobody is going to notice yours is unique unless it's like, substantially more awesome.

I didn't see any kind of title in there, usually these CEs have something like a "Founder" title to show you were one of the first players. I'm not even sure GW2 will have titles.

Hopefully they haven't finalized these things because I really want some kind of always-on effect, even if it's just in cities or whatnot.

So much for having a better community, huh? I was hoping people would really step up and make the GW2 community better, but it's going to get massively trolled by WoWheads, Swtors and the like because they've made such a big deal about being a different/better MMO.

I guess I'm the only one not really concerned about the CE. Yeah, the digital items kind of suck and are really just there to get you used to the kinds of things the in game store will have, but the physical items are pretty good.

I could do without the statue increasing the price, as great as it looks, but the art book is a must have for me. I paid $30 for the first one they put out and I'd be willing to do the same for the one in the CE.

Wow retro's back! Wb dude. I passed you in the post count while you were gone ;). Also, I too notice you are being very quiet about beta invite. You know it's okay to say if you're NOT in it.... Hehehe.

The art book is definitely the hot ticket item for me too. The music CD and art prints/frame are just icing on the cake. The statue is cool and I'm sure I'll find someplace to put it in the office/nerd room, but it's not the biggest draw for me overall.

The digital items are overall kind of disappointing to me though. The wife did just point out that the Banker, despite only working for 5 days, will still be a huge help when we're starting off with a tiny inventory. The default is only 20 slots, with 4 bag slots for expansion. Until we get bigger bags, it actually will come in handy.

Thanks, though I was never really gone since you can clear your cookies and read the forums anyways. I'm not worried about the post count either, it's not a race or a popularity contest and besides, it's only like 20 posts and I'll make that up in no time.

Unfortunately, I think the community will be made up of 90% WoW converts. Depresses me and I pray that ArenaNet doesn't succumb to their cries when their "tank" is not getting enough heals from the "healer". I know, it's stereotyping, but the WoW generation (those that have only ever played WoW MMO wise) seemed to have pigeonholed MMOs into what WoW is.

Anyhow, again, yes.....the CE definitely needs 1 thing in game to set it apart.

id rather have a permanent banker with like a 12 hour cooldown on it or something than a banker that goes away after 5 days...that would deff make it more worthwhile to me

Screw the different personal stories! Asura everything!

Edit:It's sad that I see all the info on WoW:Mists of Pandaria and all I can think is it will be more of the same. I'm still interested in it and will buy it, but as soon as I get to end game I just see myself getting bored with anything other than the critter fighter, and this is if I even find Monk interesting. Pretty tired of all the other classes at this point. Also their changes to the talent trees just seem like more simplification to the game rather than trying to impliment variance from player to player.

Sorry to derail the thread, got off on a tangent.

I disagree on the "90% will be WoWheads" bit. I think GW2 is actually somewhat of a great unifier amongst MMO communities.

The dynamic event and personal story, along with a huge world will be a big draw for the Immersion players. I think we'll see a lot of LotRO players (in my experience there were a lot more people playing that who were there for Tolkien's world and the story). A lot of my friends and family who are playing SWTOR also say that the storyline is the only thing that kept them playing, and that used the traditional Questing system.

The emphasis on skill in combat and the promise of real World PVP (well WvW) will be a bigger draw for Achievement players, as will all of the little side things to do (jumping puzzles, etc). Probably see a lot of people who used to play DAoC and Warhammer.

The singular faction, instanced neighborhood, large cities and personal story will be a big draw for Social players as well.

The lack of a subscription fee will inevitably allow players to play GW2 and another MMO without suffering anything but a lack of progress in one or the other. I expect a lot of people will pick GW2 back up when their regular MMO's content has run dry. With something like WoW, that's like 8 months out of the year.

The only communities I don't see GW2 pulling people from is EVE Online, which is a certain brand of crazy hardcore all its own.

I also think that ANet has clearly proven that they are committed to their design and I don't think we'll see the game 'dumbed down' to cater to the likes of Wowheads. At least I hope so.

Plus how can you ignore that weapons change your bar? That is huge for me. Even professions on their own will feel like another class.

Warriors in wow can't be ranged, but warriors in GW2 can.

I have a question about the game, I'm a big fan of crafting systems, one of the reason I liked FFXI, but FFXIV was a big disappointment in general, and of the upcoming MMO this and Lineage III are the ones that interest me the most, anyway does GW II have a crafting system?
