Guitar Hero 2 + More = Confirmed

He said "Country Rock", not "Country". As in Eagles, Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, maybe some Credence.

That's not the same thing as Country, especially not the current crop of gag-me Country Pop stars.

...watch them lump it all together and make me want to kill myself.

Awesome news. The releases just for separate genres are a fantastic idea too. Hopefully with all their cash from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero 2 will have even bigger songs. There were several pretty noticable omissions in GH1. Led Zepplin for example.

Indeed, I don't mind the milking at all. If anything, I hope it's pretty shameless milking, because while I don't mind the idea of good gameplay tweaks, I'd rather it play exactly like GH1 than feature "improvements" that I don't like.

Update the characters, stuff, venues, song lists, etc., just leave the core alone unless every change you make is inspired...

I can actually think of a few places where there is room for some major improvements. A practice mode would be greatly appreciated...the ability to put together a 'set' of songs that stream-load right into each other instead of having to go back to the load screen after every song....a more robust list of tutorials going over the various skills needed for the higher level songs in greater depth...that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I do, however, understand what kind of "improvements" you are talking about here, and I hope to god they keep that kind of flashy crap outta GH2.

if you get a chance to pick up the game Developer magazine with Guitar Hero post mortem you'll see that Harmonix/Red Octane had to remove some really amazing modes just to make it in time for the holiday rush. This means that the sequel is already guaranteed to ROCK!!!

One of the things they wanted was a freestyle mode for more experience players...busting out melodies in the middle of the song and whatnot.

Yeah there was also the Edge interview where they said they wanted to have a peddle attachment to the guitar but ran out of time. Hence the noticably useless expansion port.

Harmonix rules, can't wait to see what they do with a true sequel. I loved Amplitude, but the dramatic changes they made to the series when Frequency bombed were pretty apparent.

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was the April Fools thread again. Now I'm happy. :D

Uh, while I haven't looked that closely at the SG controller, I'm pretty sure there isn't an expansion port on it. IIRC, they said that they were actually forbidden by Sony from putting an expansion port on the thing for a future pedal accessory.

Nice to see someone who agrees with me on that one. While I do like some aspects of Amplitude, I've always felt that Frequency was overall a better game.

You feel that way because it was the better game. :D

Also interesting to hear about their desire to do additional modes....can't freakin' wait. :)

if they do release a pedal, it'll probably go through the usb port or something
Couldn't they make a passthrough/controller extension device as well? would be more "authentic" imo

I mean a question mark, is it that hard to type? Anyway I got this from the Edge article:

Harmonix also hoped to include a stomp box - the controller bears a jack for its possible inclusion in a sequel.

Now that I look at the controller all I see are the two pegs used for the strap. No idea what they're talking about.

Goddammit.
I just want one Band-Jam-kind-of console game where you can have a multitap to rock out, drum, sing and keyboard... :-/
I played at IZ a few times while they had KBM and it was ok, despite the limited song collections.

Just this would give me tears of happiness. But I'll take even a straight-up new song list and nothing else with a big smile.

There is a pseudo practice mode, you can enter in a code and just stay green the whole time but it won't count towards your score. Also I just want next gen GH with an a huge downloadable track library but I'll take whatever they give me.

How do I change the skins on the guitar?

You need to make sure you have extra skins for the guitar (each one only comes with one), and select it through the "change guitar" menu. If you pick a guitar you have multiple skins for, then you'll be prompted to pick a skin for it.

Damnit, I've been waiting so long for the PAL version now, I can't believe it's actually going to be released in april/may now :D.
April/May=Dragon Quest, Guitar Hero, MGS3:Sub, Okami (?). Hot damn :D.

Playing Guitar Hero at home and DJMAXPortable on the way would be very very very sweet :D

they better get crackin.....i wont be playing ps2 much longer. although a compilation along with a wireless guitar for the 360 would roxors my soxors

Here's a few things i would like to see:

-peddle attachment
-50 known licensed songs
-30 unknown bonus songs
-practice mode
-modifiers(like In the Groove) for challenge modes
-instant initial input, having to type your name each time sucks
-initials by the top score
-custom band members
-stats for each song... % of notes hit overall, by color and so on.
-better unlocks, characters, clothing, band members, venues, songs, guitars, textures for the note map thing, etc. Also save some bonus stuff for expert difficulties so we have something to work towards
-expand the two player mode. lots of different things can be done here. modifiers for attacks, kinda like tetris dropped blocks.
-online with ps3 support?
-fix the stutter problem

Some thing else i think would be cool would be a world tour mode. Start off as a small band and travel around the world playing that locations music... you know something like oomph or rammstein in germany, dir en grey in japan and so on. There's lots of good stuff out there and it would be a good way to introduce people to music from other countries.

The main thing I'd like to see here is some basic HDD support- the ability to download songs from the different GH discs onto the HDD, such that you can play any song from any version without having to swap discs.

Of course, this opens up a rather large door for piracy/hacking, so I can see why this isn't realistic.

Also, I'd like the fat keyboard player to be a playable character.
