Waiting on reviews. I won't be buying it this week but hopefully at some point before the end of the year. I already have Rock Band 4 so that'll tide me over until I grab this.
Activision is doing a stand alone guitar pack in Europe, so I would imagine they'll make the game available digitally as well.Any word on if I can get the guitar by itself and then the game digitally? I don't see a game page for it on xbox.com and don't see a way to get the guitar separately.
Wish I could, but release day embargos on a game like this are insanely anti-consumer. Would be nice to be able to pre-order shit, but as long as companies try to play games with consumers, I'll wait. Are they worried this will end up with a score under 79 on Metacritic?
It seems to me that these days Activision does release day embargoes for most if not all their games regardless of quality.Wish I could, but release day embargos on a game like this are insanely anti-consumer. I don't understand, what is wrong with the model this game is going for?I really hate the whole idea of this. This isn't Guitar Hero, this is just a casual online game and a cynical cash grab by the lousiest game company of all.
Rock Band 4, even with all the initial problems, deserves our support, not this sham of a travesty of a mockery of a music game.
In my humble opinion.

And if this doesn't take off like Activision wants (which is a possibility, though I don't know what their expectations are), I wouldn't put it past them to yank the service at some point.
cheat code you really should, if avaialble, list the GHTV songs on the OP, even ff its for appearances. people are already saying "omg only 40 songs"
I mean, at some point that's the rub with any online game. When it's offered as a service, you run the risk of external failures. Rock Band's model of weekly DLC is more secure, but ultimately offers less value. It's a matter of preference at some point.Once they decide it's a failure, they will shut down the servers and you are left with your 42 on disk songs.
Already got RB4.
This is on its way from Best Buy and will be here tomorrow. Reason why I jumped in were three reasons. First, After GCU and reward zone cards, game/guitar is effectively $69.99. Second, the 3x2 configuration will be a nice change from the regular formula we have had for these games in the past. Third, GH:TV will mean that I won't have to pay any extra for DLC or to play/try out new songs.
You mention "try out" but what happens if you like a song? How do you master GHTV songs?
Maybe I'm missing something about how it works. Can I take a GHTV song and play it over and over again to master it and/or go straight to a specific GHTV song?
Correct. In addition to the streaming channels, you can use Plays to play any song you want on demand. The game is pretty generous with doling out extra Plays although you can purchase them in bulk with real currency (or a 24-hour pass for $6)
Whenever that may be, aren't the guitar hero 3 servers still up? This is no different with any service.Once they decide it's a failure, they will shut down the servers and you are left with your 42 on disk songs.
Cost a play, they are very generous with them though. But does each replay cost a "play" or is the song "unlocked"?

It being a "service" is one of my core problems with the whole thing.
Your core problem seems to be that you don't like the game and have decided it's a failure before it's even been released, let alone before you've played it.
I don't know about online play, but I know for sure all of the GH dlc (from 3 to WoR) has been delisted. So while I know the dlc I've purchased has a finite lifespan, it can at least outlast the death of PS3 PSN up until my hard drive dies. With Live it's all on Activision's terms.Whenever that may be, aren't the guitar hero 3 servers still up? This is no different with any service.
Pretty much. Cynical cash grab from a lousy company with a lousy track record. What's to like?
Lousy track record? From what I see they've made a Buzz game and two DJ Hero games. All were well received...

I totally forgot this is made by the DJ Hero guys. Man I loved DJ Hero
it only takes one look at the post history. He hates guitar hero (especially live)and is uber biased towards RB4. Yet most of us end up buying both.....hes the guy that will just shit on guitar hero.....because its guitar hero.

One of the best games of 2009. That controller had an amazing feel to it.
I never picked up DJ Hero 2, because I was way too into Warriors of Rock and Rock Band 3, at the time.

Activision!
Ah, in that case then there is no point in discussing this any further with him.it only takes one look at the post history. He hates guitar hero (especially live)and is uber biased towards RB4. what happened to "Yeah, I'm done now"
Probably a good idea. Not entirely sure of the character limit though. I'll see how many I can fit in.
I've also been told that GH TV does NOT require PS+, and probably XBL too.
Wait, what's this about GH TV and masters? No master tracks?
By whom? Because Activision seemed to confirm it on the website. If so, I'll probably purchase the game in the near future.
A guy who has the game PMed me and told me he tested it with a non PS+ account and it worked, and that he asked Activision PR and they said it was not required for GH TV.
I suspect PS+ might be required for the Premium shows.
Are they sure that there isn't another account set as primary on the system with PS+?A guy who has the game PMed me and told me he tested it with a non PS+ account and it worked, and that he asked Activision PR and they said it was not required for GH TV.

Nope, you're just plying along to the music video/a MP3. If you miss, the volume of the entire song goes down, like with customs.
Oh cool, that's great news.
That's how I felt the first ten minutes but give it time to grow on you, give it a second chance someday.I tried the new guitar at Best Buy and absolutely hated it. It took my interest level from almost zero to negative.

"Tomorrow, it's Activision and FreeStyleGames' turn to rock out with the release of Guitar Hero Live. Activision is looking to launch the game in grand fashion with a special concert set to take place tonight, headlined by Weezer, Rival Sons, and Grizfolk. But as long as Weezer's hanging around in the neighborhood, it looks like FreeStyle will be borrowing them for some future in-game content.
A second concert will take place tomorrow at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles, in which Weezer will perform tracks off their new album. These performances will be filmed and added to the GHTV section of Guitar Hero Live as a playable music set. It should operate similar to the Avenged Sevenfold content, in that the performance should be unlockable via in-game currency."
