Gunpla

Anyone build the Armored Core 30 Minute Missions kits and how was your experience? Still waiting on my pre-order but so hyped to build these once I get them.

Just saw this thread. My son is really into gunpla since a few months ago. He built 10 HGs since christmas, he's really hooked. I also started myself, nice hobby

I like the old school kits. I got a rgm79 and ordered a hguc guncannon. Can't find a guntank locally and the shipping is as much as the kit.

I was gifted a rx78-2 but sadly it's the Rg01 and not V2. This thing is a hand grenade :(

It will be gargantuan. Depending on the models you're comparing, the top of the head of a same scale RX-78 might approach the neckline of the Nu Gundam or its shoulders will barely clear the Nu's waist.

I wonder how stable it will be. The old PGs with backpacks just do not stand on their own: The Wing Zero uses its feathers to support it, and the Aile Strike comes with a stand. Overall the funnels aren't as heavy as either, but the weight is very concentrated.

Yeah. Modern gunpla designs have been very good structurally though and this has been in primary development for five years, so I'm sure they'll have it figured out. Needs to be paired with PGU Sazabi next!

Its gonna come with a square stand for sure like Unicorn and Exia.

66000 yen after tax, LED kit sold separately. At typical price conversions we can expect $600 US. Phew.

It looks pretty big. And here I am debating if I should get the rx78 at 325$ CAD... Ouch

Wow. Nu Gundam in 1:60 scale PG... and I was yearning for this ever since PG Zeta.
Truly impressive, and also truly impressive/horrifying price tag!
It's 1/60 scale, so should be about 14 inches tall. (Nu gundam being 23m)
With fin funnel attached, it should be like 17-18" tall....

Now if they can make matching scale Sazabi... :)

Don't know if it's the same universe, but I have a half-built Destroid Defender at home. I'm not really into japanese entertainment culture, but I'm a MechWarrior fan and they stole the design for an identical looking anti-aircraft mech.

same universe as what? This is from the series Macross.

Ludicrously detailed.

I'm sorry, is the v-fin part of the inner frame? (Has Bandai gone too far~)

I'm used to Bandai promotional pictures being prettied up, so I'm having a tough time taking all those pictures at face value. I'm also used to Bandai cheaping out on inner frames after the PG Mk II although now that I look at the RX-78 Unleashed on dalong, they have stepped up their game but this much?

So the Nu does need a stand after all. Not surprising.

Height prediction was about what I thought. Grandaddy's shoulders barely clear the Nu's waistline. So big.

Made a couple purchases recently:

1) Kosmos green LED set for the PG Unicorn - I've had the final battle version of the PG Unicorn (green psychoframe with three shields) sitting around in my crawlspace for years. Decided to make it my next, big build. The official Bandai LEDs aren't very bright though; their set also doesn't account for the shields and is all body inner frame additions. Kosmos' set is brighter - albeit with some hotspots as far as I can see - connects to the shields, comes with a remote, and is battery or USB powered. Also cheaper. So I ordered from them a few days ago and my order should get here by... the end of the month lol.
2) RG RX-78-2 2.0 - Plan is for a simple, straight build with just panel lining. No decals or topcoating. Reasoning is that this will be a partner piece to Robot Spirits' Big Zam figure that my friends and I pooled money on as a gift for a friend, and going overboard on detail for the granddad would make him outshine chickenlegs. I also want to check out this kit since it's supposedly the shit (as most Bandai prestige kits are).

Immediate project is finishing panel lining & top coat on an old HG Guncannon I have lieing about. I'll be using a thin-tipped brush and tamiya panel liner for the former, which is a first for me.

Kosmos LEDs definitely seem to be the way to go for any set they're available in. Let us know how it turns out!

So I've heard. I have a friend who vetted them before buying a set for the MGEX Strike Freedom (although he hasn't built it yet). The packaging looks very nice, especially those gold-etched parts. Just from browsing the contents of the box, I didn't see a manual, so I may have some DIY on my hands, unless the layout is similar enough to Bandai's.

An alternative I looked at is RGB lighting. Takara Model makes clear, uncolored parts to replace the OOB, colored psychoframe, and Kosmos also creates an RGB set. This route is substantially more expensive though. I paid $70 for the green LEDs. Those psychoframe parts go for $260 and the RGB LEDs $110. I decided I didn't want multi-colored lighting that much.

AFAIK you can just follow the Bandai LED instructions for installation, which are available online.

These are some of my recent projects.

This RE/100 Nightingale kit had a crisis involving its leg just randomly popping out, then falling 6 feet onto the floor resulting in a lot of broken parts. I made some modifications while repairing it: the sub-arms were static but are now fully articulated including the claws and they fold back up under the skirts. The wings now expand and contract on rails and the feet have significantly more articulation. I also corrected the reason it fell in the first place by replacing the joints with stronger ones.

After that I finished this Gusion kit, I've had it for years, but it came in a two-pack with the Gusion Rebake. Unfortunately, they share a single frame, so I've had this shell kicking around in a box for a while. I found frame parts in my spare parts that not only fit the shell, but also attach to each other. In some instances I had to scratch-build some of the frame parts like the knee joints and most of the arms.

Now I can finally have both on display.

After that I started the MG Vidar. I've actually painted all the armor for the Vidar but I'm waiting for decals before I can finish it. The articulation of this frame is excellent, the head can look straight up (at least until the armor goes on)
F4tCq4L.jpg

While I'm waiting for the decals for the Vidar, I've also gotten pretty far along on this "Dominant Titan" kit. the frame is fully painted, and the armor paint is coming along, I've mixed the colors to more accurately match the Bandai colors for this mobile suit. This is essentially a version of the Messer Command Type F-02 from Hathaway. It's not 1:1 with the Bandai design, it's a lot beefier, a bit taller than the Sazabi Ver.Ka, nearing PG size. I've been making some changes to the color scheme to more accurately resemble the Bandai version. It does come with several extra parts that more closely resemble Bandai's design like a second "face" and various armor parts. I was actually pretty impressed with the finish on this kit, there are no hollow or one-sided faces on this kit. Everything has a finished face once assembled and the frame alone weighs more than the complete RE/100 Nightingale kit pictured above, which is a massive kit. I'm thinking the action base I'm allocating to it might need reinforcing.

After this I'm looking at refinishing all my Thunderbolt FA Gundam and Psycho Zaku kits. I built both while I basically had no free time and they never got the attention they deserved.

And finished

I love how stupid Gundam can be. 18M tall robots flying around on something that looks like you'd pull kids on it behind a boat. I love it.

Finished the Messer. Sucks the eye is stuck behind the bar on the visor, I think I'm going to replace the skull with a modified Zaku or Gouf skull so I can swing the mono-eye to the side. It's also way too heavy for the Action Base 1, it was twisting pretty badly, so I'll have to find something stronger. The Ex-S isn't as heavy as this thing, and it comes with a PG-sized stand
