I'm looking for some recommendations. The actual movie doesn't necessarily need to be good - I just want some cool gunfights and great fight scenes.

Hard Boiled
The Killer
Face/Off

Legend of Drunken Master II
Fist of Legend
Ong Bak
Prodigal Son

Kung Fu Hustle - more of a comedy with martial arts, but friggin' awesome

Best gunplay/martial arts?

Why that would be Equilibrium. It has the style of Gunkata.

As for straight up martial arts?

The Legend of Drunken Master is the greatest martial arts film ever.

City on Fire
A Better Tomorrow (1 and 2)

I love these absurd old chinese gangsta movies.

EDIT: These movies are litteraly gunfight after gunfight

Every single time this thread comes up, I'm amazed that Police Story and Police Story II aren't mentioned. They're two of the most influential martial arts pictures ever. I'd also recommend Skinny Tiger Fatty Dragon, She Shoots Straight, My Young Auntie, Pedicab Driver, blah blah blah no one ever listens.

Dammit, I forget sometimes. Those are already in my digitally remastered Police Story Trilogy set. None of that Dimension film edited for american nonsense!! I like totally forget that Jackie sang the ending song in Police Story 3, the american version was just the over played rendition of "Everybody is Kung Fu Fighting."

Way of the Gun: The thinking man's shootout movie.
The Wild Bunch: The Granddaddy of slo-mo gun deaths.

Fist of Legend: Arguably one of Jet Li's best films -- an awesome culminating showdown.
Kung Fu Hustle: If you love martial arts movies, this is a must.

I was watching a movie yesterday and never caught the name. Jet li (played a monk) was in it and was on spike tv. It was translated into english with voices. It was about rebels defeating an army or something. Can anyone help me?

ooo and this movie was gggggggrrrrrreaaaaaaattttt

For gunplay I second equilibrium. The first original gunbattling I've seen in ages.

My favorite martial arts action is probably Fist of Legend w/Jet Li.

Iron Monkey is also fantastic, as is the Legend of Drunken Master.

The Police Story movies, particularly II, came instantly to mind.

A while back, I may have suggested Fulltime Killer, but having rewatched it recently, I've pretty much decided that it's not very good. Time & Tide and the Killer are still slick choices, though. Hard Boiled, on the other hand, is the epitome of overratedness.

Can anyone help me? Look at my prevouis post please. Thanks

I think it might have been Twin Warriors. He was a monk who had to leave the temple because both he and his friend were exiled out of the Shoalin Temple, unfortunatly his friend became a villain type.

Or maybe it was Shoalin Temple, but that's a much older movie and would look it.

this list is almost complete... just needs Tai-Chi master, God of Gamblers 1 and 2, and dragons forever.

Hard Boiled is just crazy from start to finish. Never saw the Better Tomorrow pics, I will some day. Until then...wow.

a better tomorrow has one of the best gun play scenes in any movie too bad it is only 4 nibs long or so.. and the rest ofthe movie is pretty dull... as far as shooting people is concerned

Equilibrium
Hard Boiled
The Killer
A Better Tomorrow II (the first movie is quite lacking in terms of actual action, I'll warn you)

best gun play hard boiled

Guns:

Hard Boiled
The Killer
A Better Tomorrow II

MA:

Drunken Master II
Fist of Legend
Odd Couple
Magnificent Butcher
Prodigal Son
Heroes of the East
Warriors Two
Drunken Master
Knockabout
Dirty Ho
Pedicab Driver

Gunplay:
- Equilibrium
- Assault on Precinct 13 (the new one)
- Hard Boiled
- Face/Off (gold-plated Desert Eagles = yum!)
- Predator - loved it every time they pulled out ol' painless :)

Martial Arts:
- Fong Sai Yuk (The Legend) - last fight scene is awesome
- Once Upon A Time In China
- Fist Of Fury (The Chinese Connection) - the whole movie is great
- Cradle 2 The Grave - shit movie, but there's this one blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene where Jet Li takes out a guy using just his left hand (and foot maybe... can't remember the movie very well)
- Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - the scene where Li Mu Bai fights Jade Fox for the first time. Chow Yun Fat isn't a natural, but he made it look damned good :)
- Ong Bak - every scene where Tony Jaa belts people with his knees and elbows
- Storm Riders (if you're after something slightly outrageous)

Martial Arts:

# 36 Chambers of Shaolin
# Once Upon a Time in China Parts I-III
# Iron Monkey
# Magnificent Butcher
# The Prodigal Son (recently voted best Martial Arts film ever in HK)
# Fist of Legend ( Jet Li remake of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury) - Often voted best fights ever in HK CInema
# The Scorpion King / Operation Scorpio (NOT the Rock film) - Awesome!
# New Dragon Gate Inn (1990)
# Drunken Master
# Project A I & II
# Miracles
# The One Armed Swordsman
# Bruce Lee: The Big Boss*, Fist of Fury*, Way of The Dragon*, Enter The Dragon (* English titles)

Gunplay:

All of the above mentions +
# Bullet in the Head
# Fulltime Killer
# Mission Impossible II
# 007: Goldeneye
# Kill Bill Volumes I & II
# Hitman (Jet Li)
# Young & Dangerous Series (HK)
# Versus - I hate this but everyone else seems to think this is the Bee's Knee's
# Brotherhood of the Wolf (decent film with some cool HK action sequences)
