GunValkyrie -- buy -- yes, no?

you sort of need left stick and right stick funtionality used at the same time for manuvering.

Definitely agree about the inversion though.

You need simultaneous left-stick-click and right stick action a little, but not that often. Except maybe for those times you're descending or ascending a shaft, anyways. At least I think it might have been a viable alternative.

Even if you can digest the awkward control scheme, the game is a pretty average shooter with little imaginition. Similar to Crackdown I suppose, you rarely face-off against opposing forces that aren't endless hordes of easilly squished bugs with no apparent AI coding.
I suspect Otogi's about the only remotely similar game; few other third-person games are played mostly in the air.

I think you are right, difference being that Otogi got the controls right, GV's just feels awkward. still a fun game though, buy it!

I didn't have the patience to finish the game. Stick with the likes of Ninja Gaiden/Otogi/etc unless you can find the game SUPER cheap, because people who end up loving the game are in the minority.

My opinion of Gunvalkyrie was a lot more favorable before I played Otogi.

But it's a very nice-looking game, and is totally worth trying just because you can get it for so cheap. It's just very, very love-it-or-hate-it. I would love a sequel with fixed controls.

Some think I'm crazy, but it gave me a little bit of a Metroid (NES) vibe. I think it's the alien worlds and the long vertical shafts with lots of platforming.

a big fat NO! Don't waste your time on games with sub par controls. The graphics were shiny and neat for it's tim, but thta time has long since passed.

I think IGN said something similar before Prime came out. Metroid purists will object though.

It's a beautiful game. Definitely on the hard side. And if anybody tells you the controls are bad, then they have either zero patience, or an extremely low IQ.

one of my "dark horses" of the xbox platform....I loved this game. As hard as it was at times, the sound was just awesome...the one level with the lava and heat effect with the psycho guy talking in the background was one of the coolest things I saw/heard last gen. Highly recommend.

Everyone conveniently forgets about it when mentioning Smilebit Xbox games. I personally liked it more than Orta.

The controls have a learning curve, but when it clicks, it's really neat. In a way, it is a standard third person shooter action game. But because you have to have skill to stay in the air, it's a totally unique experience.

Otogi did get air combat perfectly, but where in GunValkyrie you are always dashing, Otogi is like being graceful in the air
