So we just launched a website to gather our fans' feedback on what they would want in an LE for Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom :)

You can check it out and give your responses here:

http://li.brari.us/hakuokisurvey

Hopefully we can gather enough data to give you all an awesome LE :3!

Get HYPE for Hakuoki! XD

Awesome. Just submitted. I think it's great that you guys are considering fan input with regards to the content in the LE.

I can't wait to try this out--I've only played a few otome titles like Yo-Jin-Bo, so I'm psyched for more. I'm sure you guys will do an excellent job with the dialogue. I'm not going to deny that my expectations have increased based on how well the dialogue flowed in 999. :lol

So, is wallscroll just a fancy name for a poster?
Kids these days! Back in my day, all we had were wallscrolls!

Yes, it's like a poster, except it's usually made of some sort of cloth, and it has a couple bars at the top and bottom, so you can roll it up. Makes it way easier to transport than a paper poster. Also it's way cooler.

Like this!

Sweet, no pressure or anything. ;_;

Well I wanna say I'm interested, but I really have no idea where the source material comes from. So its unlike Persona where its original characters, but I feel like I may not like it as much if I don't watch whatever it is they're from.

edit: also checked multiple boxes ;)

Well, two seasons worth of the anime (that was spurned by the game) are out in Japan :)

Also, OVAs are coming out this Summer in Japan as well :D

And nothing wrong with checking multiple boxes ;D

Artbook!

I was gonna put "Raised Pectorals Mousepad", but I don't know if any of the guys in the game are beefy enough to pull that off. XD

Note to Aksys, find some beefier dudes for future dating games!

I'm still waiting for my shinsengumi hunk body pillow.

Fixed for me. Men who wear glasses get a +1 in my book.

Awwww. I'm sure no matter what you guys do with regards to working with the dialogue and narration (even if it needs to depart from the original meaning to sound grammatically and lexically cohesive and coherent in English), it'll turn out well. <3

Don't worry, there is a dude with glasses and a beefy dude
unfortunately you can't date either one >.<

Also, you win the internets for having a Tir McDohl avatar :3

Suikoden = <3! Where's my Suikoden VI, Konami ;-;?

I suggest an artbook too!

Are we going to get another sweet LE for the Fate/Zero release?

I think you mean Fate/Extra ;)

And yes, that will also have an LE mwahaha

I never thought I would be foaming at the mouth for an otome game, but Aksys can make me do anything. Give me a cool LE and I will buy it day one!

Never heard of the game. Youtube shows me anime. :o

Hakuoki is an otome franchise from Idea Factory; the first game came out in 2008 for the PS2 and a year later for the PSP, which is what we're getting. It was adapted into an anime in 2010 by the abominable Studio DEEN.

I voted for Jewelry and Soundtrack ^_^

I'm a whore for jewelry and my vote should count for more anyways

I never gots the appeal of artbooks but I'm totally down for the music and jewelry! Also make the instruction booklet in full color plz!

The bits of the anime looked cool. I might be interested...

It's an otome game? Wait wat? We have people that play Otome games on GAF? GAF is more diverse then I initially thought.

Hope the game sells well though, the more diversity the better I guess. I'm really interested how well this sells compared to something like Record of Agarest War.

Why can't the digital release get anything :(

The survey even points out *CD* soundtrack not just soundtrack

No I get it, everyone hates the Go. It's okay little Go I still love you

How about muscular men wearing glasses? The ultimate solution!
You know, I've never thought about it. I'd need an example.

A little muscle is okay, and abs are irresistible. But for the most part, I'm usually attracted to intellectualism and I guess the glasses seem to represent it.

Aw, phooey. Toshizo Hijikata, Hajime Saito and Souji Okita seem to strike my fancy, though.

And you win the internets for having a Growlanser avatar. :D

I reeeeeeally want Growlanser IV: Over Reloaded. I might import a copy whenever I have some extra cash to spare.

Tir is great; despite being a mute protagonist, I liked his personal narrative the best, I valued his cameo in Suikogaiden Vol. 2, and he's hands-down the best character to use in battle in GS2. GS2's narrative was superior, though.
And no new Suikoden outside of a Pachislot because Konami is mean. :(

Yup, that's Shinpachi <3 haha
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

It always happens this way. What ever guy or girl I wanna romance in dating sims are almost never an option.

Oh well, I have a back up choice. (The dude on the left.)

PSN releases usually are a little cheaper to try and make up for things.

But yeah, retail usually gets the most love XD;

I'll probably end up importing Growlanser IV Over Reloaded too XD;

And Tir in Suikogaiden 2 with Kasumi = <3 Also, love Fumi Ishikawa's art <3

You should watch Tango and Cash:

Russel, Stallone, and delicious possibly-unintentional homoeroticism galore! Plus Kurt Russel dressed like a call girl. Great film.

All this talk about Suikoden (my favorite series ever) and Growlanser (another series I love) is making my simultaneously happy/sad.

I need Suikoden VI and English Growlanser!

(Side Note: The next Suikoden should have some dating sim elements. I'm surprised they haven't implemented that yet.)

This thread is already full of heartbreak and we haven't started romancing and dating yet! :(

As for dating sim elements: yes, dating sim elements should have been the obvious next step. I certainly would not have minded them at all because they're usually fun, no matter what gender my in-game character is. Nothing like DokiDoki Suikoden, though. That game's existence just makes me sad simply because "Suikoden" is in its title.

Looking forward to this even more. And YES, you need to be in one of those costumes to promote this game! :lol

Awwwwwwwwwwwww, yeah. :3

Well, Prince Freyjadour had a couple different ladies crushing on him in SV and they already had an affection point system in place (though it was for his sister XD), so they could have implemented it that way.

And considering that Suikoden is one of the first RPGs to actually feature a same sex relationship, they could really have a variety of options of the Tenkai star.

The base concept for the Suikoden series lends itself quite easily to something like this, they could easily have a few ladies and gentlemen for the Tenkai to woo.

Haha, I was going to dress up during the panel, but unfortunately the Hakuoki costumes didn't fit me >.<

The largest one they had was 175 cm and I'm 192 cm I believe XD;

I'm excited you guys are hyped for Hakuoki though :3!

Just remember, it's a visual novel, so I hope you all enjoy reading ;)

Ahh, Suikoden, how I miss thee~ Suikoden V was the last time I was able to partake of Suikoden's sweet ambrosia ;-;

Tierkreis doesn't count >.<

This is NeoGAF, reading about video games is the #1 pastime.

*chuckle* And now I remember some of those hilarious (and sometimes creepy) Suikoden fanfics I read quite a few years ago. Luc/Tir and Riou/Tir seemed to be popular in the ones I decided to peruse out of curiosity (I will admit that the Riou/Tir ones were tasteful at times).

There was so much they could have done with this dating mechanic. In addition to the "multiple endings" mechanic, the Tenkai's lover's existence would affect the ending in a small way, after a certain amount of battles pass with the potential lover in the party (and if enough affection points are accumulated), a combo attack can be created with said lover (Suikoden II did this interesting thing where if an ally important to another party member died, the surviving party member powered up a little), and the "night prior to the decisive battle" would be even more special. ;)

It doesn't necessarily have to be Love Plus-esque ("friend mode"/courting, finally getting the girl, "lover mode"/dating), but something Persona-esque without a direct copy of the S-Links would be nice.

Tierkreis never counts.
This was a given.

That's too bad about the costumes. That would have been a real treat. :lol

I've been waiting for another visual novel to play through before going to sleep for a loooong time, so I'm definitely hyped for this.

Well, considering how popular those features are in games like Persona, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Harvest Moon, etc. it could give the series a boost in terms of exposure.

As much as some people like to say that isn't important to them, it's always the number one topic of discussion when a new game in those series is announced.

People like to get their freak on, and Suikoden could benefit from that addition. :)

Thank you. Looking forward to the rest of the interview. I need more artwork of these hot men. :lol

I agree--Yone Kazuki art is quite nice for visual novels. I liked a lot of the stuff in Hiiro no Kakera, and Hakuoki's art looks just as good. *fingers crossed for artbook*

I really hope this game does well for you guys (and hopefully might have some good word-of-mouth like 999 did). I'd love to play more otome games in English if this proves to be somewhat successful.

And thumbs up to the Ever17 shoutout. I hope someone localizes that--if it's financially feasible. ;)

It says tomorrow's part of the interview is gonna be memorable. I can't wait. I'm really excited to support stuff like this coming out. Niche games for everyone!

I'm hoping it really does catch on, so hopefully all the 999/visual novel fans will get their swagger on and mack on some Japanese swordsmen. Then maybe the next visual novel Aksys brings over will have some BEEF. ;)

Thanks for the interview. I'm not sure how popular the Hakuoki anime is over here - I've certainly never heard of it before now - obviously it's not going to have the kind of brand recognition it has in Japan. But I do hope this gamble pays off for you.

Dark Schala said:

Ever 17 has been localized. True, it deserves a better translation, but at least you can get it in English. I'd rather companies devote their resources to VNs you can't get in English.
Like Steins;Gate.
